as someone who was '''misdiagnosed''' with a personality disorder, it does seriously peeve me when other ppl (rightfully!) take up the cause that their PD diagnosis (usually bpd/eupd) was an act of medical abuse/neglect/misogyny without making any systemic critique of personality disorders as a category. i understand that it takes a lot more confidence + critical analysis to look at the diagnosis itself rather than just how it was applied to you, but there are far too many ppl who are uncritically accepting "well, there are some people who DEFINITELY do deserve to be diagnostically labeled as dramatic/manipulative/attention-seeking, but it was really traumatic when it happened to me. because it was wrong when it happened to me."

the neurotypical invents the neurodivergent. neuro(non)normativity is a constant negotiation of social conditions + relation to capital + carceral frameworks of legal, educational, medical systems. “neurotype” is not an ontological status. it is a mirror held to the world in which it exists.

Guattari’s idea is both refreshing and profound. He suggests that when a person experiences psychosis, her psychosis changes according to her surroundings, and, therefore, treating her with fear by locking her up, keeping her in restraints, overmedicating her, and exposing her to other methods of suppression only serves to change her psychosis to a psychosis of fear and paranoia. Who, psychotic or not, in the same situation wouldn’t also feel terror and paranoia? Indeed, there is a legitimate reason to be paranoid and afraid. Further, the shock of being treated inhumanly, the sense of alienation and of betrayal, and, perhaps paramountly, the realization that humans can and do treat other humans in this way, is itself shocking and traumatizing. It is a shock and trauma that alters the psyche, changing the personality of the person who undergoes it.

children existing in public spaces is genuinely like. necessary for the continuation of society. it doesnt have to be your kids you dont have to volunteer at a daycare or whatever but you need to be able to tolerate the presence of someone who is learning how to exist as a human and interact with people
