same anon here!! your answer made me tear up aaaaa yeah it's always a bit disheartening to see people succeeding so easily at things you also want to be good at, and this kind of success is always more glorified but you're absolutely right about working 100times harder!! it's easy to dismiss bc it's more discreet, but yeah there's always a reward for hard workers!! and hearing about your story rlly makes me consider the art school path, thats like,a big thing (btw did you receive my third ask?)

This is how life works & it’s sucks lmao But tell yourself there always someone skilled than you but also someone less skilled than you. The 3 of you are running in the road of improvement. But the 3 of you can also help each other to improve. (Hate the competition, art industry have their share of pain, let’s not add more problem and enjoy the job)

Also I don’t know if I mention here, I think I said in twitter already but don’t forget your friends o/ They’re the one who can point out your improvement while you’re struggle in your improvement and feel like you’re not improving at all. It’s a precious motivation energy and a way to love yourself a bit more o/

I will support you with whatever path you’re going to choose ! Don’t forget to inform a lot, it will help you feel less scaried about this path. Also if you have an opportunity to talk with a professionnal please do, or read (if they made a post) about how they start and how they end up to be an professionnal artist . o/

hey so I read your thread on twt about "tell me about one time someone told you that you could not do smth" and it kinda hit close to home too! I draw, but I don't think anyone in my family truly believes I'm any good at it/should pursue it. my sister goes to art school, and it's always been obvious she's way better at this (and literally anything) than me, and oh boy it almost got me to quit drawing too. what's even the point you know? obviously I don't have the "talent", why bother? 1/?

Hello, Omg I understand what you feel, back in middle school, the art teacher who don’t want me to go an art school prefered my sisters because they’re way better than me and really intelligent in top of that-. 

They have something who make drawing a bit easier like having a good visual memory or the sensibility to make a drawing beautifully. 

Hope people won’t be too bother by what I will say but yeah “talent”, just to be clear, I don’t want to fight anyone, but I define “talent” as something that make your practice a little easier to apprehend, like having a good eyes memory, having a logic way to catch color or having a good way to make construction. Like someone having a good voice or someone who can sing without auto-tune you know? 

They need practice of course but they still have a good starter item. If you don’t have the talent to whatever skill you want to improve well you need to be intelligent and see what you lack more and work 100 times more than someone who have it a bit easier. Every single person have their own talent, not necessary in the domain they love. (tbh Its really tiring to see someone being good at something within 6 months while I need 3 years to learn & catch my errors lmaoo)

2/? but I'm an idiot whose life depends on hyperfixation of fictional characters XD so doesn't matter how many times I try to quit, and despite everything, I still try to draw. and I still have no fucking clue what I want to do as a 'stable' job. and honestly, I always thought if I tried to get into art school and got rejected, it'd absolutely crush me. I can't begin to explain how strong it must have been of you to get back up nevertheless. I have so much respect for you

Yeah I totally get what you mean, I was also a nerd who act like a fictionnal shounen character, always repeating “never give up” while my family told me everyday to stop being a child & stay in reality.

“Stable job”- Right now I accept the fact that if I can’t be an artist, that okay I will be a waitress or cashier if I need to earn money and drawing for myself at the same time. But unfortunately Im mentally really tired (I tried I assume you I didn’t find a single time to draw for myself, I can’t have a job & draw at the same time lmao Im weak). If you can work & draw in the same time you have all my respect !

The first time my dad accepted me to go in art pre-school (which it cost a lot) was the year of “when I failed all my entry for art school”. I did my best, I drew every single time, sleep late, not taking care of myself proprely, listened to every singles words of my teachers.

Always drawing with the thought that I will succeed, my dad and teachers will be proud of me. Well I was a fool... When I applied to art schools I was rejected, not a single one accepted me, not in a single waiting list- I was devasted. But you know what? Like I said on twitter, there always a reward for hardworker: Since my dad saw how much I worked hard for getting in an art school how much I was in pain because I thought of really quitting art, he decided to give me full support, he changed.

I don’t know if you still have time, what you’re going throught right now, if you still want to go in an art school, but why don’t you give it a try? Do your best, there a reward to every hardworker.

Right now, I didn’t get in my dream art school but I improved, I meet a lot of amazing people in the internet and in real life and have family support right now. It feel really good.

I won’t force you, whatever you choose for the futur Im hoping the best for you.
