Character introduction: FENYA

Occupation: Mayor (formerly jobless)

Color variation: yellow face sky blue greywing

Fenya is a quite a tough subject for anyone who knows him personally and/or anyone who had any interaction with him at all. Being a spoiled nestling coming from a Royal family, he was raised with the idea that he is better than others, that he has some ultimate privilege and everyone else should respect him unconditionally. His parents, Clemetine and Jack, are not better, thus they never really cared about giving him a proper upbringing, practically abandoning him oh the wings of their housekeeper zebra finch, Zhuzha.

Zebra finches are known for their pugnacious, chaotic and impudent behaviour, they love causing mayhem and have fun without thinking of consequences. One finch is not a big deal, but the bigger the flock, the more unhinged and unpredictable they become. Fenya loved that in them. He could relate to these little creatures of pure chaos, and Zhuzha enthusiastically encouraged his naughtiness when he was a nestling. But the time passed and the naughty nestling grew into a rude, narcissistic and confident in his impunity young parakeet.

Fenya was already a huge pain in under the tails of countless citizens, but the chain of unfortunate (pretty much fortunate for him personally) events led him to the mayor’s chair. And now you have the immature beast itself sitting on the highest post in the city, what’re you gonna do?…

Colonization never really stop it only takes on new faces because who you come to a country to live and you do not adapt to its customs and way of living? worse if you only come to visit and learn? The point of tourism is to get to know new cultures but instead you want to come and have your life be the same as in the United States and that we locals have to adapt (in Mexico the gringos began to complain about the noise that the sellers make in the streets that are why they don't buy local and in Mazatlan together with the help of businessmen they want to ban the bands of cultural expressions that have been part of our country for decades just because that bothers them but if we Mexicans go to the USA and want to speak a litle of Spanish we get crucified)

you don't know it, but this is being horrible 🕴️ my country is gentrifying, We almost never have problems with tourists or people who come to seek shelter, but this is something completely different.

These are Americans, who have begun to invade cities, raising the cost of everything because living here is much cheaper than in their countries, so not only are the economy affected, they are also having privileged lives earning 3 times what a Mexican.

and now they slowly want Mexico to be a USA 2.0, they have insulted us and our entire culture. They are demanding that we speak their language while in our country, and now they are trying to appropriate our culture, whiten it, and erase it.

My mother and I cannot get a house now with a decent income because everything close to the capital or major cities has exorbitant prices. (We currently live 3 hours in car from my mother's work, and the cheapest rent would be 4 hours away.)

and this is only getting worse.

So if you guys didn’t know gentrification in Mexico is currently a big issue we are dealing with, from the “expats” raising prices of homes (expats my ass, call them what they are, illegal immigrants) to how now they are complaining that banda music should not be allowed in the beaches. It all came to a head when an hotel on the coast city of Mazatlan prohibited people from playing banda on “their” beach because it was ruining the experience for their gringo (Americans) residents.

Now here’s the thing, private beaches are not legal in Mexico, all coast lines are public and they can’t be blocked or regulated like that, so the hotel has legally no say.

That has not stopped them because money does make the world go round apparently, so the bandas are now demanding their right to play where they have for decades.

Now personally I do not like banda, I don’t hate it, but it is not my first choice of music, yet I fully support them because no gringo is going to come my country and try and control our culture.
