Made time for this. Kevin Conroy was one of my favorite influences.

Conversely, maybe the most captivating and silly of Conroy's reads on Batman was from this episode of Justice League: Unlimited, entitled "This Little Piggy," where he has to relinquish something near and dear to him to get the Amazonian goddess Circe to reverse her spell on Wonder Woman.
(It's Kevin Conroy singing the 1929 standard "Am I Blue?" and it's effing gorgeous, kids.)

Thoughts about Red Hood
Okay something that really bothers me about utrh is that Jason is supposed to be a foil to the flaws of Bruce’s moral code (no killing blablabla). We see him kill a lot of bad guys along the way, pissing off the russian mafia, random guys, etc etc and just disrupting the criminal underworld in general which in the narrative is cool, Jason wouldn’t be such a compelling character if he was framed as a bad guy and it wouldn’t make sense with his background as a Robin either for him to be outright bad

Look, dgmw, I 100% understand the appeal of Red Hood conceptually, especially as a revenge fantasy- I do! The idea of Jason filling a narrative role of representing the anger of trauma victims or those the system fucks over (which I bring up bc it’s a lot of the “keep killing” camp tend to see him this way in my experience) can be very interesting to see explored or think about, especially when taking into account the societal power structures at play in Jason’s life & in Gotham, more specifically Crime Alley. HOWEVER there are many many reasons that it just… is not a good position to keep Jason in. Like, first of all, DC has been shown to write Jason’s ideology incredibly inconsistently (*coughs* in part due to the classism that led to his post-dying character assassination *cough*) & has it’s been shown that, generally, they are not able to examine it enough to execute it well. Or, more likely, they’ve never even really cared to beyond maybe UTRH & LDs. Secondly, even Jason’s most lauded post-resurrection writer (Winnick) has an incredibly reductive view of the character & his reasons for violence. He views Jason as a “complete psychopath” who slept with Talia out of an Oedipal desire to get back at Bruce &, if given the chance, would have likely used to play into the deranged bisexual trope (do I want Jason to be bi? Yes, but keep Winnick away from it). DC’s intention has very never been to actually explore Jason as a sympathetic anti-villain/anti-hero who’s representative of trauma victims (I’ve not read Outlaws yet but from what I’ve heard it does not count). They probably didn’t even think about it beyond whatever hamfisted way they could shove it in to make a quick buck off fanon. There is no reason to think this will change. Thirdly, there are other characters who will this niche better & more consistently, namely Bertinelli. Fourthly, I’d argue that you cannot fully separate Jason’s anger from the classism that led to it’s modern portrayal. For all people like to complain about it I’m honestly shocked that more people don’t take into account that Jason was nearly completely re-characterized after his murder, leading to a lot of his character development-regardless of whether it’s positive or negative- utterly illogical. Like Jason has been shown to be on some level aware of the cycle of crime since his first post-crisis appearance & I would not be at all surprised if a majority of people who’ve written for him post-resurrection were unaware of it. That is a problem. Lastly, destructive anger like this is not something that was thematically super present for Jason prior to his death- indignation at injustice sure, but not that level of rage- where as compassion was. Anger is also not sustainable to base one’s entire life & belief system around, compassion is. Not only is there more reason to explore Jason from that lens based on logical development, but I’d argue it’s more interesting. Tldr: Jason’s name literally means “to heal”, where the fuck is his trauma recovery regaining compassion arc???? Where?? Have 90% of his backing cast be civilian women w varying views on red hood’s methods & maybe I’ll pay you real money DC.
Sorry this is so long. Jason is just my blorbo sckrinly & therefore I’m very passionate about this. Thank you for being intelligent, I hope you have a nice night/day/whatever time it is for you☺️.
no like i don’t even have anything to add to this this literally says it all

@jjjackie: short answer? Nobody's really quite sure, since we very rarely got comments on the issue from people working for DC and DC execs still aren't talking. However, the general consensus appears to be that there was some obscure clause in the licensing agreement between DC and the Marston family that prevented Wonderfam characters from appearing in any movie or show where they weren't the star characters, which effectively acted as a usage embargo.
That deal started somewhere in the mid-80s after Super-Friends ended; presumably, the Marston family/estate changed their mind on how Wonder Woman could be used in non-comics media, but it technically could have also been an internal licensing issue within DC. That's about all we know about it. DC/WB got away with Diana starring in Justice League/JL Unlimited by claiming she was the star in an ensemble, but it's why she never guest-starred or cameoed in any of the other DCAU shows or Smallville and why Donna Troy never appeared in either Teen Titans or Young Justice (S1).
Paul Dini officially confirmed and talked about it a little bit somewhere around 2000:
“There’s kind of a licensing problem: if we wanted to do Wonder Woman as a series, we could do that, [but] if it was a guest-shot, it was a little more problematic. I don’t really understand it—it just turned out to be easier all the way around [to use Big Barda in the Batman Beyond episode 'The Call'...] we love Wonder Woman—Bruce [Timm] did that great design of her, which is now a maquette at the Warner Bros. store. At some point, we’ll do Wonder Woman…we just need to fight that battle when we get to it.
The only other thing we know about the "Wonder Embargo," as it was called in fan circles, is that those legal issues seemed to get resolved somewhere around 2010-2011.
How do we know this? Two reasons: one, Greg Weisman, one of the creators of Young Justice, mentioned off-hand in an interview that "legal issues" that had "since been resolved" had prevented them from using Wonder Girl in Season 1. Two, we suddenly saw an influx of Wonderfam media appearances right around that time, including Diana being in Superman/Batman: Apocalypse in 2010 (which marked her first appearance outside of comics since JL/JLU), Diana's guest appearances in Batman: Brave and the Bold beginning in 2011, Cassie Sandsmark's recurring appearances in YJ: Invasion, and the creation of the Super Best Friends Forever shorts in 2012, co-starring Donna Troy:

Diana's appearance in Batman v. Superman was confirmed shortly afterwards in late 2013, and the rest is history.

You know, this would be an interesting AU to my semi-stalled fic. You might just get me to go back and start writing again…
For reference, said fic was to introduce a “one that got away” type childhood friend who originally became a cop for separate reasons (a decision that would inspire many philosophical conversations about racial and class injustice, systemic prejudices, and the importance of actions vs symbolism). They would reunite for the first time since Jason’s death and figure out the weird feelings that they had as kids but with all the baggage as adults. But now, with this, it would mean my OC didn’t lose his adoptive parents to a fire as a teenager but would lose them later because of the Red Hood.
Hmmm…
You know what the world needs? A story about Jason falling madly in love with someone, but when he’s about to reveal to them that he’s Red Hood, they mention the fact that Red Hood killed their dad (who was probably a very bad person, but still a good father to his kid) and that they are now a newly appointed law-enforcer, who only accepted the job in hopes of taking down the Red Hood.
And the rest will basically be how Roxanne was dating “Bernard” without knowing that he’s secretly Megamind.

I feel like we’re missing something.
With Diana’s reaction, something tells me that the Zala who left Amazonia was not the one who returned to the mainlands and started wreaking havoc.
But I could be wrong…
So... Zara-El is fucking insane, isn't she? Such a pity that one of the queer characters is also the bad guy... oh well at least she isn't really Kara.

controversial opinion but even with somewhat inconsistent characterization (duh, its comics) its very refreshing to see jason go from being led by anger and trauma to slowly becoming more n more aware of the people around him and being led by compassion. its not abt redemption (which shouldnt like. be a thing anyway.) or him becoming close w his family, its abt recovery. him confronting the moral implications of killing, thinking abt the families & loved ones of ppl he killed, feeling selfish for his own grief, it all requires introspection that demands he thinks in terms of the present. its hard to consider others when ur in pain and the fact that he is in a place where he can do this now says more abt his growth in terms of mental health than specifically in terms of morality. his morality hasnt rlly changed, hes just now applying it w an enhanced sense of self awareness that has him questioning himself
and like. this is all good. the self awareness is a good thing, esp when you consider the way batman has been written for the last few decades. where jason gets to learn, bruce keeps falling into exact same pitfalls over and over again and w each new writer the narrative resets so hes no longer held accountable for it and the lesson is lost. with a character whos supposed to be a righteous person it gets rlly old when he just fails to apply any of that to himself. and when u have a character that consistently isnt allowed to improve, its very refreshing to follow a character who is recovering & becoming better, not bc of external pressure or some ideals of goodness and #justice but simply bc his willingness to get his hands dirty in order to do some good means nothing if hes completely blinded to impact of his own actions

So we all know Jason is a huge literature nerd and reads a shit ton in his free time
and since Jason's always on the move, he might not own many books (since he might need to abandon them), like maybe only a few that are his favourites
so i imagine that Jason frequently hangs out at libraries or bookshops in Gotham in order to get his weekly reading in.
Anyways, I headcanon that Jason totally hangs out at his designated library/bookshop but in his full Red Hood gear because he's well known by the librarians and bookstore owners to the point where it's just normal to be chilling at any of these places only to suddenly see this huge 6'0 hunk of armor covered in blood walk in just to sit in a corner and read.
It started out as Jason visiting these places as his civilian identity like a normal person, but one time he came back from patrol and was so tired that he just didn't care what others would think and just walked right into a library without changing and went straight to reading
Gothamites are used to seeing weird shit everyday so obviously they don't bat an eye, and the employees aren't paid enough to deal with this shit so they don't give a fuck, and ever since then, Jason just doesn't bother with his attire anymore.
i like to think Jason can just chill out at these places with a bag of heads and still not be bothered by anyone
Non-Gothamite visiting for the first time: Is-is that the Red Hood?
Bookstore employee who's been here since the beginning of Jason's visits: Yup.
Non-Gothamite: Is uh..Is that allowed?
Employee: You mean reading? Well yeah, I mean this IS a bookstore.
Non-Gothamite: No—yeah I get that..I meant the uh..didn't he decapitate like six crime bosses in one night?
Employee: Seven, but yeah.
Non-gothamite, baffled: but—aren't those dead bodies in the bag next to him..?
Employee, completely unbothered: Oh, those. Well as long as he cleans up his mess before he leaves.
Non-Gothamite:
Jason, completely oblivious to the world around him and enjoying his book: :D
also, Jason totally keeps the libraries and bookstores under his supervision and makes sure that they're protected from villain attacks
sometimes he'll be reading stories to random children who approach him and will end up with a circle of kids listening to him read by the end of the day
also also, sometimes other batkids will join him while in costume and they'll be huddled up in a lil bat pile in a corner reading stories :)
(these are just dumb little thoughts I have. feel free to add!)

@biinarykid , I mean to go a step further they went and chose the most sensible outfits for the Princes with varied costume design.
Jane? Jane could have been a mess. Just an old ratty fur loincloth to cover her lady bits and just free hanging tits for the world to see.
