can’t wait to be a 40 year old woman who’s healed from her trauma and loves going grocery shopping and lives with lifelong but manageable mental illness. and gives people nice presents on their birthdays. and I’m looking forward to being 75 and sitting on the porch in the summer when the sun is shining.

I’m sitting before you on the breakfast table, a book perched before me and a steaming cup of coffee in my hands whilst there’s toasts and egg and cup of tea before you. We’re both quiet, except for the sound of my fingers turning the pages time to time and the clattering of your utensils. You’re looking at me quietly, every time I look up from the book. I smile, and you smile back.
That’s it. That’s all. You don’t say the words and I don’t need to hear them to know that the silence says the three words louder than your voice ever will.

My dad interlaced his hands with my mums whilst crossing the road today, and it was such an beautiful act, to watch him out of instincts take her hand in his and cross the road. There’s beauty in the bond of marriage that lasts years on end. Subhan’Allah, you become each other’s routine and things like holding hands, picking out the tomato’s from their sandwiches, tucking a strand of their hair behind their ears absentmindedly becomes an action that’s purely filled with love and familiarity and it’s beautiful to witness that always.
