Why do I want to be a biomedical engineer :’)

Iko, a prosthetic arm that can be fitted with Lego bricks so that wearers can take the design of their own hand into their own hands. 

Design student Carlos Arturo Torres designed Iko for his final project university in 2014, winning him  the prize for Open Design Student in the 2015 Core77 Design Awards.

The arm was created in collaboration with Lego Future Lab, the toy company’s research and development team, and CIREC, a foundation for physical rehabilitation. It has a detachable, articulated robotic hand that makes Iko a fully functional prosthetic.

Torres explained:  “The needs of a kid in disability are not always related to physical activity but often alternatively the social and psychological aspect; sometimes a functional element is everything they need, but some other times it might be a spaceship, or a doll house, or a telescope, or a video game controller, or a swim fin.”

Kids, better than they seem

A few days ago I was the babysitter of my cousin 7 years old. Currently, I don’t like kids, but he is so great, less boring than my 11th grade friends ‘cause he’s not talking all the fucking time about sex, parties, alcohol, relationships or psychological trauma; he is just happy with his toys.

Hola, como dice un antropólogo la irracionalidad no existe, existen distintas racionalidades,  y en tu racionalidad, es decir en tu entramado complejo de ideas y creencias, posiblemente tenga sentido que te odies.

Por ejemplo si yo tengo la certeza que la popularidad es condición necesaria para ser feliz y sentirme bien y que sin ella no puedo sentirme bien, tiene todo el sentido del mundo que si carezco de popularidad sienta rechazo hacia mi persona en tanto que me siento un inútil incapaz de ser feliz. 

En el momento que esa persona cambia su estructura mental hasta creer que (la popularidad/la persona que ama/ un cuerpo delgado etc) no es condición necesaria para sentirse bien, tendrá todo el sentido del mundo que no se odie.

A través de conversar con gente nueva, abrirte a personas que ya conoces, leer, cuestionar lo que crees, viajar, hacer cosas que emocionalmente tengan un impacto en ti, yo que sé a través de ir viviendo nuevas experiencias y recibiendo distinta información de la que recibes en la actualidad tu entramado de ideas va cambiando y esa estructura mental se modifica hasta el punto que en tu nueva racionalidad odiarte ya no tenga sentido.
