Xiao: We Can Eat It
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am literally begging tumblr to let this show up in the tags. Tysm to @kiamei2010 for the help, let's hope it actually works this time.
—Characters. Xiao, gn!reader
—Contains. Fluff
—Note. I watched a simplynailogical video
A few bubbles formed and popped on top of the thick syrup over the kitchen stove, the sweet smell of maple wafting throughout the kitchen, and maybe to the reception too. You hoped Verr won’t mind the smell. Thankfully, the inn was less crowded than usual–while it might’ve been a little money lost from the boss–this means that Xiao could freely roam around the inn and you won’t have to sneak past the many guests.
Black mist formed behind you then out came Xiao holding a tray of snow that you asked for earlier. You giggle when you saw him, remembering how he grumbled when you first asked for him to do something before teleporting away with a barely audible “fine.” Yet he still did the job perfectly–a tray of perfectly clean snow leveled into an even layer without any bumps.
Seeing white particles on his hair, you reached your hand over to gently dust it off. Xiao gave you a curious look to which you responded, “you had snow on your hair”, with a smile. And like always, he grumbled and walked away, but not before you could see the light pink dust on his ears.
What a meanie, you thought as you lovingly gazed at his back, if you didn’t know better, you’d thought he hated your guts. Even with his reserved personality, he was still so polite to everyone else but always mean to you. Actually, you did think that once, but it wasn’t until Verr Goldet gave you hints about his past that you understood.
He was scared of hurting you if he stayed around too much.
Of course, after learning that, you dragged him on many more adventures whether you had to force him to or not… Which most of the time you had to. And him gathering snow was only one of the many things you asked–or rather begged– him to do over the course of your friendship.
But then that made you wonder, why does he treat that blonde traveler politely? Verr assured you he wasn’t playing favorites but it still stung a little. Oh well, you brushed the bad thought away, back to work.
“What are you making?” Xiao silently appeared behind you, peering over the look at the now boiling maple syrup. As if you never felt any sadness earlier, you heartily grinned as you recalled the fond memory of your childhood.
“Candy,” you answered, “back in my hometown, our winter carnival would sell this every year! I swear if I didn’t have my parents to stop me from eating this taffy, I would have rotten teeth by now.”
A concerned look appeared on Xiao’s face for a second before it disappeared as quickly as it came. It was another pointless human tradition, one that serves nothing but entertainment in a mortal’s short lifespan. But at least here, you can enjoy it together alone.
You poured the hot syrup over the snow in straight lines, and after waiting for a few seconds, you took a popsicle stick and rolled the syrup–now cooled down into a sticky taffy–onto the stick. “Tada! Adanac’s super-special-one-of-a-kind sticky maple syrup taffy with bits of snow stuck to it for some extra texture!”
Xiao did not understand half of what you just said.
Nonetheless, you shoved the stick into his hand, a determined look in your eyes seeking for his approval of your… ‘super-special-one-of-a-kind’ taffy. With a sigh, he brought it to his lips and took a bite. “See? See? It’s good isn’t it?” you egged him on.
“It’s not bad,” he said with a hum, to which you cheered, a hearty laugh, and a small jump at his approval of the candy. To tell the truth, it was nothing special, its taste nowhere near the deliciousness of almond tofu, and the sticky texture that stuck to his teeth slightly irritated him. But to see you this happy was enough.
You humans already lived such a short lifespan, he didn’t want to waste time making you miserable. You were like a little lantern lighting up a small portion of his dark night, and though it may not be significant in the long run, he hoped he could protect it as long as possible.
Xiao could only hope that you could stay with him just a little longer before his karma caught onto you too.
BONUS SCENE
“It’s such a waste though,” he interrupted your cheering.
“Huh? Are you calling the candy that I made with so much love and care a waste?!” You pouted.
“No, we can’t just leave the snow, it’ll be a waste of food.’ After saying that, Xiao grabbed a fistful of snow and shoved it into his mouth.
What?

Haitani Rindou: Tears on a Bandage
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
—Character. Rindou
—Contains. Typical canon violence (gangs, fights, blood, etc), angst, lotsa crying, toxic relationship (At least, im pretty sure this is?? idk)
—Wordcount. 1.48k
—Note. Idk what this story is, i quite literally just word vomited.
You try to ignore the notifications showing up on your screen, the familiar name texting you making your knuckles turn white as its grip on the controller tightened. Instead, you try to focus on your game on the TV screen, attempting to move your little character past obstacles. There was a period of silence where you got to finally focus on the game, only to then lose as the timer ran out, eliminating you. That was when your phone rang, Rindou’s name big and clear on your screen, something you can no longer ignore.
This isn’t gonna be anything good.
You told yourself.
He’s only going to bring trouble.
Even still, your hand swiped the answer bar.
From the other side came heavy breathing and the passing sound of the still busy streets, and after a pause, Rindou spoke. “Hey-”
“Is it only you?” Calm and steady, you remind yourself, remain calm and steady.
“What?” You could barely hear his answer. A quiet grunt soon followed, what you can only assume was from pain.
“Are you alone?”
“Yeah… Yeah, I’m alone.”
“Good, you can come over. Don’t… leave any trails behind.” It never got easier.
“Yeah, I know. You always tell me this.”
You ended the call, tossing the phone on the couch with a huff. You want to scream and cry at the same time; you want to curse the man out for constantly contacting you even when you two have broken thing soff; you want to curse yourself for answering him.
But have you really ever broken things off? It’s not like this was any different from the last year of your relationship with Rindou.
With a groan, you trudged to the kitchen to pull out the med-kit from the cabinet.
It was another ten minutes before you heard the bell ring, and lo and behold, you opened the door to Rindou leaning against the doorframe. His clothes smeared with dirty, and soaked in sweat and blood.
“What the fuck.”
“It’s not my blood. At least, not most of it.” Your lips quiver, so you step aside to wordlessly let him in the house. You’re thankful he doesn’t see your face when he steps inside, at least then you can push back the tears welling up in your eyes.
Just do what you always do.
Calm and steady.
Rindou made a beeline to the sink, washing out the blood from the cut on his arm, hissing at the sting. “It’s nothing much, only a small cut on the…” he trailed off as he turned around and saw you. Standing by the kitchen entrance, your body tense and even at that distance, he could hear the shaky breath you let out.
“Nothing much,” Rindou reassured, “just need a small stitch.”
You tended to him in silence, not once meeting his eyes.
It never got easier.
Not even after four years of dating Rindou and even more years knowing him, years of violence, hiding away, and tending to his wounds. With every wound you tended to, a piece of your heart chipped away; every time Rindou disappeared only to show up weeks later, injured from his mission, your eyes cried until nothing was left. Until all that was left of you was the constant anxiety and fear of not knowing anything. Where are Bonten’s enemies? Can you leave the hideaway? Are you safe? Was Rindou safe? Was he even alive?
So you broke it off, no longer able to deal with the constant stress. Heartbreak after heartbreak every time he came home.
“Look at me.” Rindou broke the silence. You tensed, grip tightening around his injury. “Look at me, please.” His voice was soft, plea barely audible. He reached out when you shook your head, his other hand lifting your chin to face him. It must’ve hurt, the strong grip you had on his injured arm, it must sting and he must want to cry from pain, but his touch was still so gentle, fingers rubbing over your cheek.
Calm and…
You couldn’t hold back the tears anymore.
“I’m sorry.” Rindou picked a tissue and wiped your tears. “I’m sorry.”
“Then why are you here?” You croaked between tears, “If you’re sorry, why are you here? Why do you keep coming back?!”
And why do you keep letting him come back?
Rindou froze, and for the first time, he looked away from you.
“I told you I can’t keep doing this, I don’t want to be part of the violence anymore. So please, why are you still here?” You’re not even sure if he understood your words spat through the tears anymore, all of it slurring together as one.
“I’m scared,” he muttered. “They know your face. I’m scared that if I don’t visit, the next time I’ll see you, you’ll be…”
Dead.
Your nails unconsciously dug into his skin, yet that unbearable pain was nothing compared to the nightmares he’d have of you—shot dead, blood pooling around your body, hands cold. But behind that, the second worst pain, it was seeing you cry because of him.
Rindou had made you cry, chipping away your heart until there was nothing left and even then he still kept taking more. Invading your life even after you tried so hard to escape and conform back to a normal life.
“Can’t you see the more you visit, the more they’ll track me to you? Can’t you see that by leaving me the fuck alone, I’ll be safer? I’ll be… I’ll be…” you swallowed before saying the last words, “I’ll be happier?”
Rindou jerked away, half-moon crescents dug into his skin right at the bandage’s border. You were right, it made most sense to stay away from you, but how could he? The only love he’s received in his entire life other than his brother, how could he let it go so easily?
But seeing the tears in your eyes, your cracked voice through the sobs, how could he continue hurting you?
Rindou abruptly stood up, scaring you into a flinch. Even further reason to slap himself for later in private. For now though, he had to get away. Yes, that’s right, he had to. You were right, the more he was with you, the more you’re at risk. It wasn’t like he made the greatest getaway earlier, either, surely in is tired state he might’ve left some trace behind. Rindou was never as careful as Ran.
He had to. He had to get away. With a quick thank you, Rindou rushed to the door. Get away from you, and never come back. Never come back? No, would he even be able to hold back? Maybe he’ll watch from afar then. However, is that what you really want? You’ll be even more paranoid once you find out he had actually given you false freedom. Think. He couldn’t think when he’s around you. Get away. Get away to come up with a plan. Get away to make you happy.
“Wait!” You shouted at him from your door, Rindou already in the middle of your front porch.
What are you doing? You want to slap yourself.
“Wait.” You reached out a hand to him.
You’re being an idiot.
“Where are you going?!”
Don’t leave.
“Your bandage, it’s…”
Glancing down at Rindou’s bandage, it was indeed a mess. The gauze loosely wrapped around his arm and on the verge of falling apart.
“I don’t know what you want anymore,” Rindou said.
You don’t know what you want either.
You don’t know why you stopped him from leaving.
Isn’t that what you wanted?
Why are you begging him to stay?
“Will you be happier?” Rindou asked, “If I actually leave, will you be happier?”
You don’t answer.
Rindou took a step toward you, “Answer me.” Another step. “You’ll be safer if I leave.” Another step. “It makes more sense if I do.” Another. “But do you want me to leave?”
He stood in front of you, his meeting yours, and you could tell. It was glassy, just like yours.
“Bandage.” Was all you could mutter, “We need to… fix the…”
Rindou called out your name.
“Please.” You interrupted him. “Don’t le… I mean, fix the bandage.” You took a hold on his hand, gently tugging him inside the house again. He quietly scoffed but complied anyway, agreeing and repeating what you said in murmurs.
Bandage.
Fix the bandage.
“We’ll fix it together.”
So he sat down at your kitchen again, you took your post across his, and once again, you do what you always do—tend to his wounds.
Calm and steady.
You had tried to hard to run away from everything. You wanted to start a new life, no gangs, no violence, none. Yet looking at where you are now, you wanted to laugh at the hilarity of it all.
Rindou could never leave you alone, could he?
And like a fool, you’ll always let him.

My sister introduced me to the NSFW Alphabet and SFW Alphabet fanfic prompts, and I thought they were cool and would love to write something using them. But I really wanted to make my own alphabet prompt with stuff that has nothing to do with sex or romance, so here it is! Useful for aro/ace authors or just folks who want to explore other facets of a character. This is more detailed because each letter has a bunch of questions related to the topic--the idea is to pick one or two of those questions to address. Have fun!
A = Aesthetic. What kind of clothes do they like? Do they prioritize fashion, their personal sense of style, comfort, or utility? How does their budget affect their style? Do they have good fashion sense? What colors do they like? What is other people’s impression of their style? Have they ever been teased about their clothes? Would their style be considered rebellious or counterculture? Do they take good care of their clothes? Do they imitate or pay homage to someone in the way they dress? Does someone give them clothes, and do they wear them? Does someone assist them with dressing (helping with corset, tie, etc.)?
B = Babies. Do they want kids? Do they have kids? How do they interact with babies/children? How do they experience pregnancy/adoption? How do they connect with their inner child? When have they healed from something that hurt them in the past? When have they encountered something that reopened old wounds? When have they cried when they really needed to? When has something good happened to them that they didn’t think would (or should)? When have they taken back something that was taken from them? When have they been so happy they forgot their pain in the moment? Who is consistently there for them when they need comfort?
D = Delicious. What foods do they like? What foods do they dislike? Are they good at cooking? When have they cooked for someone? When has someone cooked for them? What is a memorable meal they have had or shared with someone? What do they do with leftovers? What foods do they usually have on hand? What do they eat on special occasions? Do they prefer to eat alone, or with other people? What is their comfort food? What did they eat growing up? Are they an adventurous eater? Are they good at judging how much food they can eat? How often do they forget to eat? Do they have any sort of special diet?
E = Entertainment. What do they do for fun? What do other people think is fun that they just don’t get? What kinds of stories do they like? What kind of music do they make or listen to? What hobbies do they have, and how serious are they about them? What’s a pastime they have that another character would disapprove of? What is their guilty pleasure? What are they like when they get bored? Are they more likely to stick with one activity, or flit from one to another? What kind of social activities do they like? What is something they only do with friends or loved ones? When have they connected with a stranger through something they both enjoyed? When has giving up been good for them, even if they didn’t feel good about it at the time? When have they thought they couldn’t do something they actually could? When have they thought they could do something they actually couldn’t?
Y = Yesterday. What is a memory they cherish? What is a memory that haunts or torments them? What is something they regret? What is a memory they wish they could forget? When have they forgotten something that was important? Are they forgetful? When have they felt nostalgic? When have they been reminded of something unexpectedly? When has a character reminded them of someone else? When have they caught themselves acting like someone else?
Z = Zone. When have they become so focused on something they forgot their surroundings? What activities do they feel like doing when they have more energy than usual? How often do they have the energy to do things they want to? When have they spent the day cleaning house? When have they gotten caught up in the rhythm of a song? When have they worked well together with someone? When have they stayed up all night doing something?

Skip Google for Research
As Google has worked to overtake the internet, its search algorithm has not just gotten worse.  It has been designed to prioritize advertisers and popular pages often times excluding pages and content that better matches your search terms
As a writer in need of information for my stories, I find this unacceptable.  As a proponent of availability of information so the populace can actually educate itself, it is unforgivable.
Below is a concise list of useful research sites compiled by Edward Clark over on Facebook. I was familiar with some, but not all of these.
Google is so powerful that it “hides” other search systems from us. We just don’t know the existence of most of them. Meanwhile, there are still a huge number of excellent searchers in the world who specialize in books, science, other smart information. Keep a list of sites you never heard of.
www.refseek.com - Academic Resource Search. More than a billion sources: encyclopedia, monographies, magazines.
www.worldcat.org - a search for the contents of 20 thousand worldwide libraries. Find out where lies the nearest rare book you need.
https://link.springer.com - access to more than 10 million scientific documents: books, articles, research protocols.
www.bioline.org.br is a library of scientific bioscience journals published in developing countries.
http://repec.org - volunteers from 102 countries have collected almost 4 million publications on economics and related science.
www.science.gov is an American state search engine on 2200+ scientific sites. More than 200 million articles are indexed.
www.pdfdrive.com is the largest website for free download of books in PDF format. Claiming over 225 million names.
www.base-search.net is one of the most powerful researches on academic studies texts. More than 100 million scientific documents, 70% of them are free
