Guys, we did it!
I really didn't think we'd get even close to $2k in a week and was just planning to quietly donate my $2k on Saturday but you guys did it in TWO DAYS!
I've gone ahead and donated my matching:
I've also edited the original post so that people might see my matching goal was already met, but of course people can continue donating, this was just my own personal matching target.
It might even be better to just donate a small but regular amount, I've heard that that's much better for things like abortion funds or so on, where there's an ongoing need and they need more sustainable funding than just the amounts that come in fits and bursts based on headlines. But of course you have to balance that against the urgency... and there are so many people and groups in need. Well, y'all pick what works for you.
You know, I'm just really marveling at people's generosity. :') I've been feeling pretty down for a while and they say the way to counter that is by actually doing something productive. I was already going to donate but I talked this over with my friend, how maybe it'd flop and make me feel even worse, but then I was like, even a dollar extra donated would be worth it. And look at us now. :)))))
Sudan still desperately needs aid--it needs a lot of things, but it is approaching a dangerous point with famine and mass death due to hunger imminent.
These are the kinds of headlines we're getting now:
Here's an ongoing fundraiser:
I linked it before, to help with Ramadan, but it's an ongoing initiative, the need has not stopped.
I picked this gofundme because it's been boosted by people I trust and you can see pictures online of the food they've provided, e.g.:
But I also picked this because you can see the amount of donations. It's 2pm ET on Saturday, April 20th right now? For the next week, whatever's donated, I'll match for a total up to $2,000 (we'll say 2,750 CAD, since the gofundme is in Canadian dollars).
You don't have to send me a receipt, I just ask that you donate and boost.
Edited on 2024-04-22:
We've met and passed the goal! Feel free to donate further, but I've gone ahead and donated the $2,750 matching already. :)))

As overwhelming as this list might seem, if you can give anything at all, please just pick a link at random if you need to.
I remember some years back, there was a spate of crowdfunding for people's independent artistic projects, you know, comics, short movies, games, that kind of thing, and not all of them succeeded. An experienced artist posted about how people didn't realize how much preparation and work went into a successful crowdfunding campaign, it was like any business project, you needed to have a product, find its selling point, research your audience, just do the full marketing that people got paid huge money to do in other fields.
It's just an extra cruelty that in the middle of all this, being bombed and starved, with internet going down often and the power shut, Gazans have to not only continue to report to the rest of us updates of their own family and friends and neighbors being killed, in the hopes of stopping this (and then be targeted as journalists) but also crowdfund WHILE many of the platforms like Gofundme and Paypal will often suspend them AND they're getting scammed AND spam-reported. Putting on these cheerful tones as they beg people to donate so that they might survive.
It is so humiliating and unjust ad yet, it could literally mean the difference between dying in the ongoing attacks or surviving a little longer. For a lot of these people, where they have multiple family members, they have to decide which can go through ahead, and wait for the rest. And even when they escape, they have no money and hardly anything to their name, in a world that is still quite hostile to refugees. All without knowing if they'll ever be able to return to Gaza.
Fundraiser masterpost
This is a masterpost for the evacuation fundraisers I've vetted so far, a few other fundraisers I find trustworthy but have not been able to vet (inability to communicate with the organizer), and a few semi-completed fundraisers or fundraisers for a different purpose (like house rebuilding, or aid distribution). The numbers next to the names have no significance beyond ease of navigation for me for when I check their progress in the future. You should look at the disclaimers instead and focus on those. Occasionally I will update these with new info, including new fundraisers, and the amount of cash that's been raised. Check in regularly on the original post when you see it being reblogged. In all likelihood once its reached you it's already outdated. Also please don't overlook the Sustainable Aid options near the bottom! The brain drain is already creating problems but having another way of keeping or creating new knowledge and key members of a functioning society is important.
