This week on EdCast, A PINCH TO GROW AN ED!
Sally and Kevin are heading into Short King Spring with a Very Special Episode of Ed, Edd n Eddy where Eddy feels ashamed of his height and learns nothing in the end. YAHOO! Later in the episode, our gracious hosts briefly discuss Danny's proto-Ed Edd n Eddy shoe commercial "Adventures of Kung Shu," and then finally introduce the Pigeon Post mailbag segment!
Sorry I forgot to post it here, haha. Head's up, we might miss next week.

This week, Sally and Kevin watch 'Over Your Ed', the 4th installment of the 1st season. Edd n Eddy attempt to improve Ed's hygiene, grace and wit in order to pass him off to the other kids as "cool." Grab yourself a cool refreshing glass of EN-O-GEE drink and have a listen!
At the end, Kevin reads a seething review of the series premiere.

Please consider commissioning me. I also have a Patreon!
(New Edcast out probably tomorrow)

New Commission Card for 2024! Please consider commissioning me, I'd really appreciate it! It would help a lot while I reach my goal of self-producing 10 shorts of Those Friggin Ferrets this year.
Surprisingly no one ever makes me do Bro Show stuff, that IS allowed.
(note: Background in Looney Tunes image is not by me, aside from its initial concept art)

Surprise!  Sally and I are back and starting to record new episodes of our EEnE rewatch podcast.  Danny Antonucci happened to notice it the other week coincidentally, so better strike while the iron's hot, lol!
We don't have a set release schedule yet, it's currently a "do 'em when we can" type of thing, but I'm currently editing ep 2, so we've got a little more momentum this time.
"Sally and Kevin are BACK and reviewing Ed, Edd n Eddy in order this time! Starting of course with the series' pilot, The Ed-Touchables, we begin the podcast once more in a simpler fashion. Help Kevin, Sally and the Eds solve the mystery of the serial toucher!"
**throughout the episode, there are references to early plans for Nagged to Ed also being in this episode; we decide by the end of the episode to not do a double-feature anymore.

I found out from this twitter post, that according to Danny himself. Netflix cancelled a show of Lupo the butcher. Only because Netflix wanted Danny to tone it down to a PG13 rating. Shame this had to be part of the things Netflix had to cancel.
submission by Zac
Unfortunate!

How do you think “Smile for the Ed”, which is considered the worst episode of the show by a large portion of the fanbase, would be different if it was a season 1 episode?
A fascinating concept, indeed... Two crucial elements of the plot, the school and Eddy's brother's room, do not exist in season 1 so that entirely changes things, and then the animosity that fuels the behavior in that episode isn't fully there in the kids until season 4. Beyond that, season 1 already has a photography-themed plot so a primitive Smile for the Ed kind of already exists.
I think it would make enough sense to replace the picture day concept with the Eds doing a photoshoot scam in the lane that takes on the form of a school photo day, like how Edd imitated a classroom in the lane in 'Dim Lit Ed'. Kevin botching Eddy's photo by calling him dork is a simple enough concept that could lead into a revenge scenario I guess? The motivation from Eddy's mom and Bro's room is definitely a "later seasons" extra bit of spice that wouldn't be necessary in season 1, Eddy is vain enough to just care about a photo... And the motivation is key to it truly humiliating him and sparking Kevin's further bullying.
I can't think of a reason that Eddy would care in particular about a photo he took as part of his own scam to escalate the humiliation in the same way.... Maybe instead it could be like the kids are putting their photos on an exclusive board and gatekeeping the Eds from the board like the fads in 'It's Way Ed' or the rich club in season 4... And Kevin keeps botching the Eds' photos and so on and so forth? It's amusing to think about how different each season's writing really is.

Could I request an analysis of Nazz's personality through the whole series + movie? Cause, sadly, she wasn't that developed I think :c
If you search Nazz on this blog, I have already analyzed her quite a few times! Anything specific you want me to dwell on? She's underdeveloped but I find her very fun to keep track of in the background of episodes. Definitely a unique character among the rest of the cast, if not much else.

So, the animation on many episodes that were animated by Funbag Animation Studios Inc. was different compared to this animation by Yeson Entertainment?
No clue, but I'm only under the impression Funbag contributed to individual scenes, I believe Yeson was the primary animation studio on every episode.

Hi, it's me again! I read somewhere, several times at that, that Eddy is afraid of the dark... Is it a "canon" thing? I know you're not really fond of canon things in EEnE, but I was wondering if you had an answer
Heya! Well really, canon IS my whole thing, I'm just entirely focused on what actually happens in the show rather than other sources. Eddy being afraid of the dark comes up at least 3 times in 'Boom Boom Out Goes the Ed", throughout the power outage until the scam distracts him and again as the last gag of the episode when Edd turns the lights off on Ed and Eddy. Don't recall it coming up in other episodes, but I believe it appeared earlier in one of the comics by the show's boarders, when Eddy gets separated from the others in the sewer and is scared to be alone in the dark.

Apparently someone found out the canon ages for the Eds from Danny Anotonucci himself:
https://www.deviantart.com/charickcs/art/CANON-AGES-OF-THE-ED-EDD-N-EDDY-CAST-865642860
I already told that person directly but I'll say it again here:
Danny Antonucci doesn't give a damn about "canon," he's so far removed from the show at this point (and was never really committed to the "concrete information" side of creating characters during the series' actual run anyway). There's no point in asking him because literally every boarder was free to conceive of their own vague context.
Of course Danny's going to give you twenty different ages and Plank's 100. Does that really sound serious? Messing with the fans' heads isn't going to affect him at all at this point so of course he's going to do it!
If fans are desperate for age context, there are just two episodes for you:
'Mission Ed-Possible' puts the most work into showing that EVERY KID except Sarah and Jimmy is in 6th grade. 6th graders typically range 11-12 years old, and these are the only ages referenced for the Eds in other episodes and in AKA staff interviews, so it makes sense that their fellow 6th graders share that age range. It is fair to question Lee, Rolf and Ed, but all three are treated in the series as simply ahead of others hormonally, which is fair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
'Too Smart for His Own Ed' provides an alternate timeline where a storyboarder missed the 6th grade memo and judging by Edd's awards this was his 8th grade spelling bee, which would suggest they're in a 12-13 age range, also reasonable. This episode also shows that Sarah and Jimmy are in an elementary section of the school, with cubbies instead of lockers. Sarah and Jimmy were once referred to by a storyboarder as 8-year-olds, which I think suits them perfectly, but again, could be conjecture.

This might be a bit of an odd question, but I'm wondering about famous scientists/artists Edd's name-dropped over the course of the series? He mentions theodor geisel, nikola tesla, niccolo paganini, and niels bohr (I think for the cat name?) But those are all I can think of, I was wondering if you could think of any others off the top of your head or if there even were any others? Apologies if this is just. a very strange ask lol
Not a strange ask but unfortunately I'd have to rewatch all the episodes to remember because I'm sure I've missed some, haha. I recently realized that in 'Smile for the Ed', Eddy says "Put your Helmut Newton on, sockhead" and I never got that that's a famous photographer, I somehow believed it was an obscure old-timey camera helmet I never heard of. :P That episode also has a background reference (via a bust in the music room) to ... Mozart I think?
You are correct that all of those have been namedropped by Edd, and I remember that in the Niccolo Paganini episode ('Pain in the Ed') Edd also mentions Chopin and probably a few other composers. Once again I can only add an Eddy line, calling Ed "Baryshni-coughdrop" in reference to famous Russian dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov.

Has it ever been outright confirmed of Ed being allergic to cleaning products like soap and deodorant? I know as the series bible says, Ed has a ton of allergies including rabbits, cats, eels and butterscotch. It seems would make sense that Ed fearing soap/deo is medical related, but I've never found anything confirming that as his reasoning for such strong avoidance.
They've successfully washed Ed at least once (Over Your Ed) without him breaking out so I wouldn't suspect it, but I do like that better than it just being random. I don't know much about soap allergies and I'm not recalling any other moments off-hand but perhaps he was washed with a hypoallergenic detergent any time Edd has sanitized him?

in the series bible post you said that the neighborhood characters were designed by another studio/cn executives? can you elaborate please?
I definitely didn't say CN execs designed any characters. According to the storyboarder I was talking to in 2009, "the kids" cast designs were outsourced to another unnamed studio, presumably another Canadian studio run by old friends of Danny's. Makes no sense to me when he would have done this.. Presumably for the purpose of pitching the show but when did he animate the walk/run cycles for everyone from the DVD? Or did he outsource those too? The Eds and the Kankers on the other hand have early designs that seemed to come from Danny himself. It is likely Danny sent concept art for the others in order to reach the finalized designs, but as soon as I heard that the other designs were not necessarily done in tandem with the Eds' designs, I could see how the kids' earliest designs share a slightly different logic from the Eds' and some of the kids' designs took a little longer to adjust to the style.
