I kind of love that one of Jane Austen's biggest fans was the Prince Regent (later George IV). She didn't think very well of the nobility in general, but she motherfucking hated him, a wastrel who very flagrantly cheated on his wife.
But he loved her writing, was the first recorded purchaser of Sense and Sensibility, and kept copies of her books in all his residences. She never made enough from her writing to live on during her lifetime, so this wasn't support she could casually toss aside. His librarian kept suggesting ideas for new books to her, which she turned down with exquisite politeness. Much to her aggravation, she found herself obliged to dedicate Emma to the man.

You want everyone to be able to slot into a pride and prejudice au but no one can accurately fit into the niche that Mr Darcy and Elizabeth have cornered which is completely and uniquely deranged and sophisticated in a way no marvel character, nay, not even an over watch character, can dare compete with

Something I randomly think about a lot is how when very old castles, manors, and large country estates were built, they were built with the expectation of guests. In eras when you rarely travelled over a hundred miles from home, when one did travel guests stayed for long periods of time with friends and relatives. Wealthy people would have guests in their home frequently (virtually all the time, if you were royalty), so huge houses (and staffs) accommodated for multiple guests on long stays. More homes were multi-generational, too.
And now when people live in big houses it’s usually just themselves. Maybe 4-6 in a family, and when the kids get married and move away? Maybe only 1 or two. Guests rarely “sleep over,” and almost never longer than a weekend. I don’t know exactly what caused the cultural shift, but it fascinates me.

A concept: Bingley buying Darcy a golden retriever because once upon a time Darcy had called him that. So now whenever Darcy has to return to Pemberly after tedious work, a golden retriever greets him with enthusiasm just as Bingley would.
Golden retrievers didn’t exist during the Regency, but I see your point.

Have you done a chart on Austen protagonists and their love interests age gap? (Idk to correlate to what 🤣😅)
I have now!
Jane Austen Charted #13: Age Gaps in marriages in Jane Austen
I used all the marriages that happened during the novel where we know both people's ages (so sorry Louisa and Benwick, we don't know the young captain's age). All ages are approximate as almost no birthdays are given in Austen's novels. Also, Fanny and Edmund's actual marriage age is unknown, though we know the gap.
First some statistics on Jane Austen marriages:
Average age of first marriage for a woman: 20.91 years
Average age of first marriage for a man: 27.64 years
Average age gap: 7.09 years
This is not far off from the real average: first marriage in the mid-eighteenth century was 26.4 for men and 23.4 for women (Women's History of Britian, 2005) with Jane Austen's females marrying slightly earlier than average.
I tried two different ways of displaying the data:

(Red indicating the only marriage where the woman is older than the man)
There are a few other marriages we know the gap for, Mrs. Grant is 15 years younger than her husband. Sir John is about 13 years older than Lady Middleton.
Here is the raw data (I do this because it's best practice to show as much of your data as possible so people can identify errors):

Also, here is just the heroines:

As we can see, the age gap increases if we take out the other marriages.
