upcoming WIP list ask game
Rules: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ASK with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it! Tag as many people as you have WIPs.
thank you for tagging me, annie (swingsdown)! (for some reason, tumblr will not let me tag you...??? am i just old and don't know how to work this site anymore?)
like annie said, (a) my entire drive is like 45 WIPs (for everyone's sake i'll only list ten), none of which are very creatively or aptly named; and (b) i have no one to tag, as i've basically become the internet equivalent of that old man who lives in the house at the top of the hill alone. that being said, please feel free to ask for snippets and tag me if you end up reblogging from here so i can read as well!

Why do people stop commenting on fics if they’re more than a week or two old? Please comment on old fics. Tell me you like my one shot from 2014. Tell me you like my old multi-chap I finished in 2016 that I spent a year writing. I will be fucking thrilled.

Tips for Writing a Difficult Scene
Every writer inevitably gets to that scene that just doesn't want to work. It doesn't flow, no matter how hard you try. Well, here are some things to try to get out of that rut:
1. Change the weather
I know this doesn't sound like it'll make much of a difference, but trust me when I say it does.
Every single time I've tried this, it worked and the scene flowed magically.
2. Change the POV
If your book has multiple POV characters, it might be a good idea to switch the scene to another character's perspective.
9/10 times, this will make the scene flow better.
3. Start the scene earlier/later
Oftentimes, a scene just doesn't work because you're not starting in the right place.
Perhaps you're starting too late and giving too little context. Perhaps some description or character introspection is needed before you dive in.
Alternatively, you may be taking too long to get to the actual point of the scene. Would it help to dive straight into the action without much ado?
4. Write only the dialogue
If your scene involves dialogue, it can help immensely to write only the spoken words the first time round.
It's even better if you highlight different characters' speech in different colors.
Then, later on, you can go back and fill in the dialogue tags, description etc.
5. Fuck it and use a placeholder
If nothing works, it's time to move on.
Rather than perpetually getting stuck on that one scene, use a placeholder. Something like: [they escape somehow] or [big emotional talk].
And then continue with the draft.
This'll help you keep momentum and, maybe, make the scene easier to write later on once you have a better grasp on the plot and characters.
Trust me, I do this all the time.
It can take some practice to get past your Type A brain screaming at you, but it's worth it.
So, those are some things to try when a scene is being difficult. I hope that these tips help :)

radio star remix
hi, guys! hope everyone is doing ok.
i've been meaning to move radio star over from FFN to AO3 for some time now (not to delete it from FFN, but to just put the story on AO3 as well). i've decided to rework the chapters as i go and post them one-by-one. i'm not rewriting the story, i.e., i'm keeping key details, lines, and largely most of the writing the same, but i am trying to clean up a few things from a style/grammar/storytelling perspective. if you'd like to read, hop on over to the link below, where i've posted the first chapter!

idk why it took me the announcement of ffn basically imploding on itself to remember i haven’t finished seen the latest chapter of radio star, only to find out there have been TWO WHOLE UPDATES since i last peeked.
in any case, TYSM for writing radio star (or i guess podcast star); it’s so beautifully written and well-executed, and the same goes for fukai negai. you’re so talented and wonderful and i hope you have a good day because you deserve it. 🖤
and idk if it matters, but i’ll link my own playlist soon, i have new songs in mind after reading the new chapters!!
ahhhh omg thank you? this is such a nice message and i really am so happy you enjoyed the story all the way through the end (and as a 29 yo i am embarrassed of fukai negai tbh but also glad ppl still like it LOL). thanks for sharing your thoughts with me and please do link the playlist, i would love to see it!
(also what news of ffn? i was actually thinking of cleaning up radio star and also uploading to ao3 in case ffn ever just goes away into the ether, ha.)

So, India is dying.
Look, I know a good number of you are from the US and things aren't amazing there either, but my country is literally on the brink of collapse. So I'd love it if we could talk about that for a minute.
If you can't do anything else, please just read and reblog.
A second COVID wave has taken out the healthcare system. There are no more hospital beds. There's an oxygen shortage. There's a critical vaccine shortage. The Central Government has thrown its hands up and is passing the baton to the State Governments to do what they can.
There are over 16 million covid cases. A record 330,000 new cases reported yesterday - comparable to the US at its peak. 187,000 dead as of today.
There is no plan.
Mass cremations are taking place. The cremation grounds are running day and night and they are short on wood. People are watching their loved ones die while waiting for a hospital bed, and then they're unable to give them the proper burial rights.
Tumblr media
Hospitals are overwhelmed. Patients are being confined, two to a bed. They're the lucky ones.
Tumblr media
We are on the verge of people dying in the streets.
This is the second-most populous country in the world. The largest democracy. A country that encapsulates over 15,000 years of recorded human history and has endured everything from famine to invasion to colonisation.
We might be at the end. This might be the thing that does us in.
People are dying.
Tumblr media
People are dying.
Tumblr media
People are dying and there is no plan.
Tumblr media
More good news? Variants are popping up. A double mutation strain has shown up. It is resistant to current vaccines. This will not go away. This is the devastation they warned of when the anti-maskers were out protesting the minor inconvenience of covering their face in public.
My country is on the verge of an emergency state. Our government has failed us. This is as dire a situation as it ever could be.
Look. I don't do much with my life. I write fics, some of you have read them and that's pretty much it. I spend my days with my head in the clouds because that's where I like to be.
But two days ago, my grandmother tested positive, had to be taken to hospital and the ambulance caught fire.
She barely made it to the urgent care she needs.
So, here I am, using whatever meager platform I have to cobble this request together. Because I have to do something.
If you can, donate.
Or spread the word.
Help. Please.

I have been following Radio Star for six years now. It became an obsession (especially in between chapters with really long wait periods). I really loved how you ended it. I think it was a wise decision to separate chapters 30 and 31 the way you did. Every single detail of this story is perfectly played out. Did the ending go the way you originally thought it would or did it go a different direction? I feel like when you started it 10 years ago, podcasts were not as big as they are today.
thank you so much ;-; it always means so much to me when someone says they’ve read the story for this long! it’s like you guys grew up with me in a way.
i also sincerely appreciate your comment re: details, because i am a huge stickler for trying to keep things consistent, tying up loose ends, and generally leaving very few questions unanswered. you’re right in that the podcast was a relatively new idea. when i first started the story, sakura was going to become a serial radio show host, hence the (still very loosely related) title! just had to transform that point to keep up with the times, haha.
thank you again!
