I see the sun, and if I don’t see the sun, I know it’s there. And there’s a whole life in that, in knowing that the sun is there.

The thing about 13 reasons has to do with the glorification of suicide. There are specific guidelines to set up a narrative such that the scene in which a character commits suicide is only relatable to a point; in other words, suicide is OK to depict IF it's explained at least half heartedly that the character depicted killing his/herself doesn't get rewarded for the act. In 13 reasons, by the time Hannah is ready to kill herself, the audience is with her. They're in agreement. Thats the danger
now that’s an explanation I 100% understand. I’ve had a gazillion people say it’s glorifying suicide but the way you explain it actually explains what it means!! thank you!!!

A culture fixated on female thinness is not an obsession about female beauty, but an obsession about female obedience. Dieting is the most potent political sedative in women’s history; a quietly mad population is a tractable one.

Stay afraid, but do it anyway. What’s important is the action. You don’t have to wait to be confident. Just do it and eventually the confidence will follow.
