Listen To Me: Tanner Adell - Buckle Bunny

I'd never heard of Tanner Adell until seeing her on Beyoncé's new album Cowboy Carter, so I decided to give Tanner's music a listen.

I have always loved country pop music, and that's exactly what Tanner Adell's music is. Her music is kinda trashy, which is why I love it. She's like a black country Ke$ha. "Strawberry Crush" is a song about idolizing someone and being obsessed to the point that you want to be exactly like them. It's a cute fun poppy song, and that's why I love it.

"Bake It" is a new euphamism for sex that I'd not heard of, but Tanner sings about her "sweet potato pussy pie" that she's getting ready for someone to eat.

"See You In Church" is a fun song too. It's about going through the week drinking, partying, hooking up wtih guys, but then still making it to church on Sunday. She goes through every day of the week wilding out but then still manages to come to church on Sunday.

As soon as Tanner mentioned stealing someone's man in a torn up t-shirt I knew she was my kinda gal. "Buckle Bunny" is purely about being a trashy slut, and that's exactly why I love it. Apparently Buckle Bunnies are like lot lizard. Just trashy, slutty, country girls, and that's Tanner Adell's brand. I'm officially a fan!

Woman Crush Wednesday: Ciara

I have no idea how I've never made Ciara my Woman Crush Wednesday, yet I've made both her baby daddies my Man Crush Monday before.

It's officially been 20 years since Ciara burst into the music scene with "Goodies". The song instantly made me a fan, and established Ciara's dominance in 2000s pop/RnB.

Ciara really established herself as a superstar with her sophomore album The Evolution. The album featured hits like "Get Up", "Promise", and "Like A Boy".

Ciara's love life has also kept her in the spotlight. Ciara and Future were engaged, but broke up due to his alleged infidelity. The two share a son named Future.

Ciara's song "Livin' It Up" featuring Nicki Minaj was my Song of the Year in 2013. I absolutely love this song, and it's on Ciara's self titled album Ciara, which is my favorite album of hers.

Ciara has remained most relevant in recent years due to her relationship with Super Bowl winning NFL quarterback Russell Wilson. The couple married in 2016, and share 3 children together.

Their relationship causes much fanfare in the black community due to Ciara's finding happiness after being left a baby mama makes many mad. Ciara has showed there is hope finding your prince charming after being done dirty, but black women finding happiness does make many angry. Many also hate seeing that Russell has embraced Ciara's son with Future as his own. It's like they want black women to be left struggling single mothers, unloved, unwanted, and undesired.

Ciara refused to allow that to be her story, and I'm so happy this Scorpio queen is still thriving all these decades later.

Listen To Me: Beyoncé - Cowboy Carter

Beyoncé shocked the world with her Renaissance Act 1, which was house music inspired. Now act 2 Beyoncé has gone country with Cowboy Carter. Some are assuming the theme is Beyoncé reclaiming music genres that were originally created by black artists, yet black artists were eventually shut out of those genres. Beyoncé is reclaiming those genres, and perhaps rock n roll may be next.

Of course Beyoncé would try to steal the spotlight of the Super Bowl by announcing her new album and 2 new country singles on Super Bowl Sunday. "Texas Hold 'Em" allows Beyoncé to pay homage to her Texas upbringing and shows why she appreciates country music.

People always assume black people are from the ghetto inner cities, and forget that black people can be country too. The south has the highest population of black people, and most of those areas are rural. Plenty of black people relate to and enjoy country music. I grew up with my grandmother loving country music, so country music has never been something I viewed as only for white people. Only a black artist of Beyoncé's caliber has the power to take over the country charts.

Beyoncé teams up with Post Malone on the song "Levii's Jeans" and it's one of my favorites on the album. Post Malone has always been a versatile artist. He does hip hop, rock, pop, and even some country influence. The two's voices blend together effortlessly on this love song.

Dolly Parton's song "Jolene" is one of the most famous country songs of all time. Beyoncé pays homage to Dolly and "Jolene" by putting her own spin on the classic song. Dolly's version was more like "please don't take my man" and Beyoncé's version is more like "bitch I dare you to try to take my man".

I love that Beyoncé is using her platform to celebrate other black artists in country. "Blackbird" features black female country stars like Tanner Adell, Brittney Spencer, Tiera Kennedy, and Reyna Roberts. I already knew of Brittney and Reyna, but this song inspired me to go check out Tanner's music and I love her country pop sound.

Beyoncé continues to defy genres and prove no label or barrier can stop her dominance in the music industry.

Man Crush Monday: Nicholas Galitzine

British actor Nicholas Galitzine apparently isn't gay, but he keeps snatching up all the gay roles in Hollywood.

Galitzine's first queer role was a brief appearance in the show Legends, and he followed that up with playing a closeted rugby player in Handsome Devil. He also plays a queer character in The Craft: Legacy.

Nicholas hasn't only played gay roles. He plays Cinderella's love interest Prince Robert in the Cinderella remake which co-starred Camila Cabello. He also starred opposite Sofia Carson in the Netflix love story Purple Hearts.

I first discovered Nicholas due to his role as closeted gay Prince Henry in Red, White, and Royal Blue.

Galitzine is currently starring as George Villiers, favorite lover of King James I, in Mary & George. Julianne Moore plays his mother who is pimping him out to the king.

Nicholas Galitzine is defnitely Hollywood's new It Boy. He's starring opposite Oscar winner Anne Hathaway in The Idea of You, where he'll be playing a 20 something boy band star that falls for an older single mother. Nicholas Galitzine may have less than 20 credits to his acting resume, but the 29 year old is starring opposite multipe Oscar winners and creating a lot of queer representation with his roles.

Listen To Me: Fletcher - In Search Of The Antidote

I've heard of lesbian pop star Fletcher for several years now, but never listened to her music. I've heard her on features of other artists, but decided to finally give her a listen with her latest album In Search Of The Antidote.

"Eras Of Us" is a song reminiscing about the good times with an ex, since that relationship has come to pass. Yet it's still on your mind, and every past memory comes flooding back once you see them again.

It's no secret. I think lesbian breakups are way more dramatic and messy than gay male breakups. Fletcher even wrote a song about hot her her ex girlfriend's new girlfriend is. That's some crazy messy shit. In "Maybe I Am" Fletcher sings about her crazy and messy sides, and all the other bad things people have labeled her. She's leaning into her chaos and owning it in this song.

As someone that only likes guys bigger than him, I'm loving the lyrics in "Crush" where Fletcher sings "Won't you crush me under the weight of your body?". That's so hot to me. We want to feel safe and protected by our partners. Someone bigger, stronger, that makes us feel safe and every touch from them feels us with euphoria. Where we can be our most free and vulnerable selves.

This is definitely Fletcher's breakup anthem album. "Doing Better" is a direct message to Fletcher's ex that she was with for a while. She even mentions the ex's ex gf that Fletcher made go viral when writing a song about how hot she is.

Fletcher is messy, complicated, and does some problematic things. She's human, and I love that. I also love supporting queer artists, and I'm loving her new album In Search Of The Antidote.

Watch Me: Summer House Martha's Vineyard

Summer House has been a popular series on Bravo for many years, and I never cared to watch. That was until they made the first Summer House with an all black cast, Summer House Martha's Vineyard. I did try watching this series when it originally aired, but i couldn't get into it. I decided to binge watch just as the 2nd season premiered.

Jasmine Cooper and her husband Silas Cooper are the central couple of the show. The premise is they both invited their friends and friends of friends to spend a few weeks in Martha's Vineyard together. Jasmine and Silas are the only married couple in the house, but they both come across as controlling and unbearable at times. Especially as they get mad when the other housemates want to let their partners come stay in the house. LIke they are fucking every night, but don't want their friends to have their partners to come to the house so they have someone to be intimate with is weird. Also they act like they own the house, and everyone needs their approval for every move.

Bria Fleming is annoying too. She acts like a spoiled brat, and everyone is annoyed with her bringing her dog on the trip but not wanting to clean up after it. Jasmine's best friend gets kicked out of the house for having an altercation with Bria which many viewers are still mad about. Bria's always mad about something, which makes her hard to like as a cast member.

Former Playboy Playmate of the Year Jordan Emanuel is the hot girl in the house that all the guys want. Jordan is on a celibacy journey, which makes all the guys unable to have her, though they don't stop trying to seduce her.

I find it hard to believe Nick Arrington is straight. I get that straight men can be into fashion, though straight men don't make judging everyone's fashion their entire personality. Nick claims he has crushes on all these girls in the house, and even slid into a bunch of their DMs, which didn't seem genuine this man seems very homosexual. Granted most of the guys on the show seem homosexual. Which I hate saying, since as a black gay men, I hate when black straight men are accused of being gay for being preppy, educated, into fashion, well mannered, well spoken etc...but Nick seems very gay. Though it is later revealed he has secretly had a girlfriend the whole time he's been shooting his shot at the other ladies in the house.

Amir Lancaster is the hottest guy the house. He's also the most likable. Amir is half black and half Lebanese, but his black daddy was a deadbeat so he was only raised by his Lebanese side. Amir does have race issues due to his upbringing, and was late in life to embrace his black side. Though now he loves his black ness. He does have a crush on Jordan, but after he friendzones him, it looks like he's gone back to white women.

Shanice Henderson is the wild party girl of the group. She's always getting naked, which bothers many of the other ladies since Shanice is always quick to flash her tits around other people's boyfriends and husbands. Shanice is a former playboy bunny, like many of the other ladies in the house. She also has a history of being a psycho ex girlfriend.

Jason Lyke also sets off my gaydar extremely. Yet he also apparently has a kid, but many gays have kids. He identfies as straight, but I don't believe it.

Preston Mitchum is the only openly gay cast member on the show. He's really boring and contributes nothing to the show. He's always trying to stay out of the drama, or preach and educate everyone about something. It's very annoying. I want to see him with a love interest or another gay in the house to have drama with. I get that nto everyone on the show needs to be involved in drama, but when everyone in the house is involved in drama then I don't like the one gay person being neutered and trying too hard to not be problematic.

Alex Tyree is frat brothers with Nick and friends with Jasmine, which is his connection to the group. He crushes on Shanice, until learning her about her allegedly stalking her ex. The group doesn't like that Alex did Google Shanice and brought her past drama to the group.

Summer Marie Thomas joins the show late with Jason. She's pretty unproblematic and avoids the drama. She tries to be peace maker and the voice of reason amongst the group.

I'm enjoying Summer House Martha's Vineyard now, and Season 2 airs Sundays on Bravo!

Woman Crush Wednesday: Emily Blunt

I have no idea how I've never made Emily Blunt my WCW before. She's been one of my favorite actresses for nearly 2 decades.

Blunt's breakout role was playing bitchy assistant Emily in The Devil Wears Prada, which is one of my favorite films of all time.

I was obsessed with The Girl on the Train book and movie, where Emily Blunt starred as the main character Rachel.

Blunt has gotten to act with and be directed by her husband John Krasinski in the A Quiet Place films.

Emily Blunt is officially an Oscar nominee after her performance as Kitty Oppenheimer in this year's Best Picture winner Oppenheimer. I'm shocked that this was Emily Blunt's first Oscar nomination since she's had so many high profile roles in the past, but hopefully Emily Blunt will be an Oscar winner in the future.

Listen To Me: Tyla - Tyla

Afrobeats has taken over the globe. So many African artists are achieving mainstream success in the US, and South African artist Tyla just won a Grammy before her debut album even was released.

"Water" was Tyla's debut international smash hit. The song blew up on Tik Tok, and was everywhere. It's the song that won Tyla a Grammy, and made her internationally known. It's such an addicitve lighthearted fun song. The impact was undeniable, and Tyla deserved her Grammy.

What makes Tyla's music so good is that it transcends genres. She's pop, RnB, and afrobeats all in one. I love her song "Truth or Dare" though people are already hating, as they tend to do once they see a black woman becoming too successful, and saying her songs all sound the same. Afrobeats is new for me, since I never really had any interest in listening to it until I got into Tyla's music. The backtracking/melodies do sound similar, but the songs are great.

"Safer" is my favorite Tyla song on her self titled album. It's a song about catching feelings for someone you know that will most likely be no good for you, so you'd rather protect yourself and run away. Granted I don't believe in that. I'm always down to get my heartbroken again for a toxic romance, so I'd never run away from a dangerous romance. Still I love the song.

Tyla is only 22, a Grammy winner, and taking over the globe. I love seeing her success, and the reaction to her album that I've seen has been positive. I love the album, and Tyla definitely proved she's no one hit wonder.

Man Crush Monday: Barry Keoghan

I'm shocked Irish actor Barry Keoghan was snubbed at the Oscars this year, but he's definitely a future Oscar winner.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer was Barry's breakout role. He's proven that he excels in playing dark and twisted sinister characters.

High profile performances in Chernobyl and Dunkirk led to Barry joining the MCU as Druig in The Eternals. The Eternals didn't do so well in the box office or with critics, but I hope they make another Eternals movie.

Barry was nominated for an Oscar, and won a BAFTA for his performance as Dominic Kearney in The Banshees of inisherin.

I thought Barry Keoghan was a shoe-in for an Oscar or at least a nomination for his shocking performance in Saltburn. Rarely do movies leave me shocked, but seeing Barry as Oliver Quick take out an entire family to take over their family estate left me in shock. It's a shame that the movie was snubbed by the Oscars, but Barry Keoghan is only 31 with a long career ahead of him. He'll definitley be an Oscar winner one day.

Listen To Me: Jai'Len Josey - Southern Delicacy

Jai'Len Josey is an Atlanta native RnB artist that I recently discovered. I love her new EP Southern Delicacy.

"Man In Your Bed" is a song about wanting your friend to want better for themselves, and leave that toxic, lying, cheating, no good man alone. I can't tell if Jai'Len is revealing she's bi in the song or gay, since there's a lyric "you should be loving on me" instead of that nasty no good man. Seems like all the new entertainers are bi, so anything is possible. But I love the song!

In certain songs Jai'Len Josey sounds a lot like Beyonce. She can make her voice sound a lot like Beyonce, and "Take Me Higher" is one of those songs.

Jai'Len pays homage to her southern roots in her song "Southern Delicacy". She's got such a beautiful, soothing, lovely voice. Jai'Len definitely dserves more recognition amongst the RnB lovers.

"Good Soup" is full of double entendre. It could be interpreted as sexual, but also can just be about wanting to make your lover some amazing soup so they feel better.

Jai'Len is gorgeous and an amazing singer, and I hope more discover her amazing music!

Watch Me: Apples Never Fall

Australian author Liane Moriarty's novels are the biggest commodity in Hollywood right now. Her previous books Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers have already been adapted into big budget, A-List starring, series on HBO and Hulu. Now her latest work to be turned into a series is Apples Never Fall on Peacock.

Joy Delaney (played by Annette Bening) is a married mother of four. Her and her husband recently retired and sold their tennis academy. Joy seemingly has the perfect life, but then she mysteriously vanishes. Her children are torn apart, where half of them are accusing their father of Joy's disappearance, and half are defending their father's innocence.

Stan Delaney (played by Sam Neill) is Joy's husband of 40 years. He's a hot headed tennis player turned coach, who never made it big and resents his family for losing the best player to ever play in their academy who did go pro. When a wife goes missing the husband is always the first prime suspect, and Stan has all eyes on him when his wife mysteriously vanishes. Especially since the clues that he's behind her disappearance keep popping up.

Troy Delaney (played by Jake Lacy) is the eldest of the Delaney children. He is the first to suspect his father of being behind his mother's disappearance. Troy has experienced the most of his father's hot headed and abusive nature, especially when Troy didn't end up being the tennis champion his father wanted him to be. Troy is the most financially successful of his siblings, and his currently having an affair with his boss' wife at the tech firm he works for.

Amy Delaney (played by Alison Brie) is the eldest daughter in the family. She's the hippie of the family, that's struggled to find herself with a career and stablility, but loves her family. She too suspects her father of being behind their mother's disappearance since she's seen her father's volatile nature while growing up.

Logan Delaney (played by Conor Merrigan Turner) is the youngest son. The younger siblings were protected from their father's temper and he's cooled down more as they were younger. Logan wants to protect and defend his father at all costs. He also willingly sacrificed his relationship to be closer to his family.

Brooke Delaney (played by Essie Randles) is the youngest daughter. She too wants to believe her father is innocent, and defends her father against her elder siblings accusations. Brooke is a lesbian, so she's the queer representation of the series, and her own relationship problems are depicted in the series.

Savannah (played by Gerogia Flood) is a mysterious woman that shows up on the Delaney doorstep. Joy and Stan take her in, since they believe she's on the run from her absuive ex. Joy and Stan enjoy having Savannah around, since they're bored, retired, and their kids are all living their own lives. Though it's obvious Savannah has a lot of secrets, and the Delaney kids don't trust her.

I really enjoyed this series. It's a 7 episode limited series, and all episodes are available for streaming on Peacock.

Woman Crush Wednesday: Alison Brie

Alison Brie stays booked and busy, and all over my TV screen.

Brie's breakout role was playing Pete's wife, Trudy Campbell, on Mad Men. Alison appeared on Mad Men for all 7 seasons.

While also starring on Mad Men, Alison also starred on the cult comedy classic Community for all 6 seasons as Annie Edison.

After those series ended, Alison starred as Ruth Wilder in GLOW. She got to play a struggling actress who becomes a female wrestler for all 3 seasons of the series.

I loved seeing Alison play Madison in Promising Young Woman, and Sloane in Happiest Season. She really excels in playing bitchy characters.

Most recently Alison Brie stars in the latest Liane Moriarty novel to be turned int a series, Apples Never Fall. Brie stars as Amy Delaney, a woman that tries to figure out what happened to her mother that's gone missing.

I had no idea Alison Brie is married to Dave Franco. Alison Brie will soon be in the upcoming Community movie, and other projects.

Watch Me: The Bear

The Bear has become a critically acclaimed award winning darling TV show, and I decided to check it out. It follows the drama of a struggling restaurant and all the crazy characters that work there. I've never worked in a restaurant, but I've eaten in plenty. I've heard about the craziness of the restaurant industry, and I'm sure anyone that's ever worked in one, especially the kitchen can relate to this series.

Jeremy Allen White found his hit series since Shameless. He's even won an Emmy for his portrayal of Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto.

Carmy is struggling to keep his brother that committed suicide's restaurant afloat. He takes the reigns and is trying his hardest, but keeping restaurants alive is always an uphill battle. Carmy is still struggling with losing his brother, and the way the suicide has impacted his relationship with everyone else in his life. Carmy is determined to keep his brother's memory alive, by making sure the restaurant stays alive.

Ayo Edebiri is also an Emmy winner for her portrayal of Sydney Adamu. Sydney comes to join the restaurant out of everywhere, and also wants to do whatever it takes to help the restaurant succeed. Carmy is resisitant to all of Sydney's ideas, even though her ideas are usually always right. Sydney's past is mysterious, but it does slowly come out during the show, as it's apparent she also has her own PTSD.

Richie (played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach) is Carmy's cousin. They aren't actually blood related, but grew up together since Richie was Carmy's dead brother's best friend. Richie also wants to keep Carmy's brother's memory alive, and hates all the changes that Sydney and Carmy are making to the restaurant. Richie is definitely a fuck up, and continues to fuck up any chance he gets, but he's basically family so Carmy can't cut him loose.

Tina (played by Liza Colon-Zayas) is the tough no nonsense Latina in the kitchen. She isn't fond of Sydney when she first arrives but the two develop a close bond soon afterwards.

Marcus (played by Lionel Boyce) is the big softy in the kitchen. He usually does the baking, and he gives Sydney a hard time when he first arrives, but then it becomes apparent he's harmless. He has his own family drama going on outside of the restaurant life.

Neil (played by Matty Matheson) is a big goofball. He and Richie have a longstanding disdain for each other, but Neil is otherwise super sweet despite his rough looking exterior.

Abby Elliott plays Natalie, Carmy's sister, and she's also dealing with her brother's suicide. The suicide seems to have driven Natalie and Carmy further apart and not closer, but Natalie also does want to make sure the restaurant succeeds. She does deeply care about her brother, and wants what's best for him.

It did take a couple episodes, but The Bear did grow on me. I'm not sure if I'd consider it Emmy worthy with my taste, but it is a layered series and clearly a hit. I'm enjoying watching it on Hulu.

Watch Me: Mean Girls

Mean Girls is one of the greatest movies of all time. It's still so quotable 20 years later, and even inspired a hit Broadway musical. Now that Broadway musical has been adapted into a new film.

Cady Heron (played by Anjourie Rice) moves with her mom from Africa to a new high school where she tries to fit in. She plots with her new friends to take down the mean popular girls, while Cady ends up becoming one of the mean popular girls herself.

Janis 'Imi'ike (played by Auli'i Cravalho) and Damian Hubbard (played by Jaquel Spivey) are the misfits Cady quickly becomes friends with, until she ditches them for The Plastics. It's 2024, so of course many of the originally white characters are no played by people of color.

The Plastics are Regina George (played by Renee Rapp), Gretchen Wieners (played by Bebe Wood) and Karen Shetty (played by Avantika).

Renee starred in the original Broadway version of Mean Girls, so she's reprising her role as HBIC Regina George.

Aaron Samuels (played by Christopher Briney) is Regina's ex that Cady gets a crush on, and then Regina takes him back out of jealousy only to constantly cheat on him.

Tim Meadows reprises his role as Mr. Duvall the school principal. Tina Fey who created Mean Girls, reprises her roles as Ms. Norbury. Though we do see them as a couple in the film, since the original always hinted at them having sexual tension.

Busy Philipps takes over the role as Regina's mom Mrs. George.

Ashley Park starred in the Broadway musical version of Mean Girls. She has a cameo as the french teacher Madame Park.

The original Cady, Lindsay Lohan, even has a cameo which was nice to see.

Shockingly I'm one of the few gay men that doesn't love musicals. I rarely like musicals. Though the only way I'd want to see a Mean Girls remake is if there was changes, so I'm glad this was different since it's a musical and not just a copy of the original. Though it is basically just a copy of the original with added songs and more racial diversity.

There were some changes that didnt' make sense. The biggest one that bothered me was Regina just leaving the Burn Book in the hallway. Like it's 2024...we didn't even have social media back in 2004 when Mean Girls came out. It would've made more sense for social media to play a part in the Burn Book getting exposed. Even the original made more sense with Regina printing out copies and leaving them all over the hallway. Just leaving a book in the hallway and expecting it to reach everyone in the school didn't make sense. Especially in the age of social media.

Besides that qualm, Mean Girls The Musical was a cute watch, though the original still reigns supreme.

22 year old quarterback Caleb Williams is expected to be the number 1 draft pick at this year's NFL draft.

The 22 year old is 6'1, 215 lbs, and a Scorpio! He's also a DC native.

Williams played college football for Oklahoma before transferring to USC, where he really became a football star.

In 2022 Caleb won the biggest award a college football player could win, the Heisman Trophy.

Caleb Williams has been making waves on and off the field, and it's made him a controversial draft pick. Still he's expected to be #1 despite the drama, and I can't wait to see how Caleb Williams does in the NFL.

Watch Me: Poor Things

Emma Stone is officially a two time Oscar winner after her riveting performance in Poor Things.

A woman kills herself by jumping off a bridge, and a mad scientist implants a baby's brain into the dead woman's body, reanimating her as Bella Baxter. Bella has the mind of a child, but she quickly begins to develop, and discover the world around her. Bella's sexual awakening leads her to running off with a randon man, traveling, and discovering the world anew. The sexual awakening is a big part of Bella's journey, especially learning how a woman must survive in a world dominated by men.

Godwin Baxter (played by William dafoe) is the mad scientist that creates Bella. He raises Bella as his daughter, but even he can't stop her from her natural curiosity for the outside world after he's had her hidden in his home for years. Godwin is known for all types of crazy experiments, but Bella is more than just an experiment to him. He loves her as his own daughter.

Max McCandles (played by Ramy Youssef) is a student who comes to study under Godwin. He quickly falls for Bella, but Bella wants more for herself. so he allows her to go off and discover the world with the hope that she'll return to him.

Duncan Wedderburn (played by Mark Ruffalo) is a wealthy playboy. He seduces Bella, and she goes off with him to discover the world. Bella eventually gets bored of him, and realizes monogamy isn't for her. Though Duncan is very bitter and vindictive, and refuses to gives up on Bella.

Bella makes all sorts of new friends on her travels. Like Harry Astley (played by Jerrod Carmichael).

Toinette (played by Suzy Bemba) becomes Bella's friend and lover after they end up as prostitues together in Paris.

Swiney (played by Kathryn Hunter) is the madame of the brothel that Bella and Toinette work at.

Godwin and Max try to recreate a new Bella with Felicity (played by Margaret Qualley) but her brain doesn't quite develop. they quickly realize their is no replacing Bella Baxter.

Poor Things is crazy in theory, but it's a very entertaining movie. Even when I heard about the concept of a woman has a baby's brain implanted in her, and I was like why the fuck would I want to watch that. Though Emma Stone is such an incredible actress, that she can make any plot work. Hence why she just won her 2nd Oscar.

Watch Me: The Color Purple

The Color Purple is a classic film, and the original helped make Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey superstars. The Color Purple was later turned into a hit Tony winning musical, and now the musical has been turned into a movie.

The movie broke Christmas Day release records, though the cast has spoken out about the subpar working conditions on the film. As a black actor, I've dealt with some shitty filming conditions. Sadly it's always on black films. Black actors constantly speak out about how racist Hollywood is, and how white actors receive way more preferental treatment than black actors,. Even on this big budget all star cast production, the black actors were still being fucked over behind the scenes.

The actors speaking out may have lead to why the film did terribly in theaters after the opening weekend, but that's also why the film was sent to HBO for streaming very quickly after it's release.

Celie (played by Phylicia Pearl Mpasi) and her sister Nettie (played by Halle Bailey) are super close. Their abusive father, and then Celie's abusive husband drive them apart, but they never stop longing to be reunited.

The adult Celie (played by Fantasia Barrino) has been beaten down in life. By her abusive father, and then her abusive husband. Men have done nothing but abuse her and make her life miserable, and all Celie wants is to be reunited with her sister. Since she's never been happier than with her sister. It isn't until Celie encounters women who refuse to let men make them victims, that she starts to gain her own inner strength.

Mister (played by Colman Domingo) is Celie's abusive husband. He never really wanted Celie, but the other women he wanted didnt' want him. He moves Celie in to basically be his slave and raise his kids he already has, and beats her any chance he gets.

Celie finally finds a friend with Sofia (played by Danielle Brooks) after Sofia marries Mister's son Harpo (played by Corey Hawkins).

Sofia is the polar opposite of Celie. Sofia is loud, boisterous, and refuses to let any man make her a victim. Harpo is the opposite of his daddy. He's dumb and lets his wife boss him around. Though afer Harpo hits Sofia, after Celie tells him to since she's been brought up to belive men beat women to control them, Sofia leaves Harpo. Something Celie's never had the strength to do.

Shug Avery (played by Taraji P. Henson) is Mister's ex. She is the local preacher's daugher, but has dreams of being a famous singer, so she got out of their small town. Shug returns to town for a visit, and stays with her ex Mister. Mister is still in love with Shug, but Shug takes a liking to Celie. Shug tries to empower Celie into wanting more her herself, and the infamous lesbian kiss/hookup that the film is known for between Celie and Shug happens here in this adapation. Back when the original film was release in the 80s, it was still taboo to depict same sex encounters, even though the book the film was based on depicts it.

Ciara appears as the older version of Nettie.

H.E.R. appears in the film as Squeak, who is Harpo's second wife after Sofia leaves him. Though it's clear Harpo only wants Sofia.

I really enjoyed this film. I never watched the original, but it's such a big piece of pop culture with so many iconic quotable lines like "All my life I had to fight", and "Harpo, who dis woman?" and so many other iconic moments. The cast did a superb job. It's just unfortunate that the black actors still had to deal with mistreatment when this movie was so well made.
