Project #4
Artist Statement:
The idea behind my project is to show that there are 3 types of people in this world. The people who will try to keep the planet nice and clean so that others can live on a healthy planet by throwing their trash away. The people that will either drop their trash when they think no one is watching saying someone will take care of it. Then finally the people who deliberately choose to throw, drop, or even roll their trash wherever they please because they just don’t care about anything. The challenge in this project was deciding how I wanted to show off the different types of people. I however wanted to show that this has meaning and that everyone has a choice in who or what they want to be. Do want to be someone who keeps are planet safe, do you want to just let some one else deal with it, or do you want to be the person that causes trouble and makes life hard for everyone. We all have a choice in who we become and what we will do to help shape the world the real question is who are you going to be and what are you going to do. If I could do this differently I would show better examples of the different types of people but I believe that this shows the point that I’m trying to make.

The Feeding
For the final project I was inspired by Yoko Ono’s the cut. While I didn’t let people cut my clothing off I did have people feed me. Being feed put me a vulnerable position I couldn’t control how they fed me or how much.
I work at Casa Bonita, so I decided to walk around and ask my co workers to feed me sopapillas. And take a picture because it took longer than a minute to find people to feed me.
Thoughts and Reasoning:
Eating is something everyone struggles with. It could be eating too much, not enough, healthy or unhealthy. In our society a lot of pressure is put on food aka body image. To give away that power and to feel some vulnerability I say some becausei do know all the people I asked to feel extreme vulnerability I would have had to ask people I don’t know and well this was my place of work so I didn’t do that.
After living in China for two years and having my physical appearance, specifically my weight talked about and scrutinized almost daliy I have become more aware of the struggle. (I am a 135lb 5 ft 6in tall person...I think perfectly average)
What I did:
To push back at societies that think I’m too big or too small because in America I am often told I’m small and should eat more. I decided to give the power away and see what people would do.
I filled one basket with fresh sopapillas and I had another that was empty. I walked around Casa Bonita and every coworker I came across I asked to feed me or not it was up to them.
What others did:
Some feed me the entire sopapilla, some only gave me a bite, the most interesting was the ones who wanted me to spit it out after I took the bite. Some agreed to take a picture during but quite a few said they would feed me but wouldn’t take a picture with me. Making me feel a little ashamed, like it was a secret to eat. Harkening backs to eating and body image is a serious concern.
In the end:
I definitely tried to lighten the heavy body image mood with taking silly photos while eating the sopapillas.
If I could do something different:
I would have like to sit in one place and had people approach me to feed me, and have more people intentionally watching others feed me rather than whoever happened to be around as the audience.

Project # 4, Connected, Video Games in The Woods
For my final project, I chose to take an idea I had for the second project. When doing the 2nd project I wanted to take images of people on their phones and paste them in some of the most well known natural wonders of the world. Having a person staring at their phone while in the presence of natural beauty would have been a fun thing to capture, but I did not have to photo shop images to do that, images of people using their pomes in nature is a normal occurrence these days.
The main idea behind this piece is that we are always connected. Even when people travel and explore the most remote places, they are able to share that place with the rest of the world in a matter of seconds. People no longer have to travel or experience the outdoors; they can visit the outdoors through different forms of video and media. In some ways this can be a good thing. People that don’t have the means or ability to travel and explore the world can, via these different digital avenues.  In other ways, this sucks. The excitement of these new and unexplored places can be discovered by logging on to the Internet, so there is no need to travel and explore to see them.
My process was to  load my truck up with my tv, tv satnd , a chair, head set and a playstation controller. I drove around up Golden Gate Canyon and took random dirt roads, Unitil I found a place that I felt would be a good spot. I unloaded my truck set up my phone and then beagn fimling. there were a few cars that went by on a differtn road tthat could se where I was but Im not sure if they saw me. I was worred and nervous to do it but wehn it was done it felt good was i was confrtable doing it. I Like this idea and think it would be fun to try other places.

This Totally isn’t Familiar at All
Artist Statement: For this project I wanted to interpret failure as that of our country’s inability to learn history’s lesson. I chose to wear a pink triangle to assert the fact that caging humans is ugly fascist behavior comparable to what happened to Jewish people, LGBTQ people, and other minorities in World War II Germany. As a Jewish LGBTQ person, I think it is important for us to reflect, even if it causes us discomfort.

Reading #4
RoseLee Goldberg: The reading goes over the history of performance art and how Goldberg was a famous art historian and curator of performance art. The reading also talks about all the different kinds of performance art throughout history. The reading also talks about her being the director and founder of Performa, which is a non profit arts organization best known for Performa Biennial
Mariana Abramovic: The film The artist is present shows Mariana getting ready for a big retrospective of her work in New York. The film gives us a look at a more modern version of performance art that Mariana is able to captivate the audience in with it. She’s known for body art, endurance art and feminist art all of which build a relationship between the audience and performer.

Artist Statement: “Vanishing and Becoming, my dinner”
For this project I wanted to take the idea of “Vanishing and Becoming” quite literally through the life of my tomato plant harvest, as well as some associated chaos that can come along with transforming something into something else. My videos are all original because I wanted this to be a personal project from the perspective of the artist. My audio is all royalty free use sound effects compiled through Adobe Premiere. I’m inspired by the chaotic nature of DADA art, as well as mainstream ASMR videos. I kept my lighting according to my environment, with some adjustments to the saturation and highlights to emphasize the natural shadows of both environments. I have distorted the audio slightly for a more “natural” and chaotic effect.

Project #3
Artist Statement: The idea behind my project was to ride my long board and vanish off the screen, then one of my friends ride on the screen kind of dressed like me. I went through different ideas that didn’t pan out the way I wanted to. Eventually I came up with this idea and I believe that it worked out the way I wanted it to. If I could have done it differently I would have had more people help out in the video just to make a bit better then it is now. I would also speed the video up more then it is now just to give it a better vanish effect

Reading #3
Book:
After reading the chapter from the book I notice it’s like are other reading but it’s still able to be different as well. This chapter focuses on time and motion for art and how it plays a role in art. The way time can be used in art is amazing weather it be a video, or the colors used in it, and even parts that show a different era in the art gives us a good way to look at time being used in art. Whereas for motion we can see in the artist work like the choreography from videos or paintings that make the piece look real almost or that puts it in an act of motion.
Article:
In the article we read about vanishing and becoming and the role they play in art. Like how they play in a role with shadow puppets, shadow puppets can be changed and become something in just a snap depending on the intention of the artist. Shadows have been used in entertainment for centuries if it’s for the entire act or show, for certain scenes to add more either mystery to the act or even suspense. Shadows are a perfect example for vanishing and becoming and we see more of this being used everyday from movie projectors using light and shadows to play movies for anyone who is watching.

Artist Statement #2
When It came to making Project #2 their were some things that were troubling to deal with. For instance when it came to deciding what I wanted to make my series about I was unsure of what I wanted to do. Eventually I made my choice and began finding specific moments from fights in Dragon Ball Super. I then picked the 10 that I liked and made the gif’s out of them but for some reason even though the gif’s were made into the smallest file possible, I couldn't get them to work for Tumblr on my laptop but on my phone they work perfectly fine. In the end though they look great and I couldn't be happier with them matching the others in the series.
