On June 1st, 2021, a group of plainclothes police officers in Newark, NJ approached young black men, who were looking at clothes in a van, without announcing themselves and assaulted them. The other brothers heard the commotion and went out to defend them. One of the brothers, Justin Rodwell, ended up getting arrested and has been detained since that day at Essex County Correctional Facility, one of Newark’s worse prisons. All four brothers are facing charges such as resisting arrest, assault on a police officer, and face up to 30 years. Meanwhile, NPD has been harassing and stalking the family for daring to bring the injustice to light. Rallies have been held to support the Rodwell-Spivey family, it has been posted on social media, etc.

Black people are allowed to be angry without solutions.

Black people are allowed to be enraged at the circumstances that plague us without ever suggesting a way to fix it.

Black people are allowed to want to burn the entire system down while having absolutely no idea what we should replace said system with.

There are many of us who have dedicated our lives to working on finding and implementing solutions, but there are just as many of us who only have rage. Who only know how to hate a system they know is failing without knowing how to replace it.

If all a black person has is their anger, that is perfectly, 100% valid.

Stop belittling the work, feelings, and activism of black people because we can’t always offer you a perfect solution.

Stop standing behind deeply racist institutions because you’re afraid the new ones won’t be perfect.

Khalil Wheeler-Weaver admitted in court he targeted black women because he knew society wouldn’t care if black women went missing or turned up dead. He targeted black women who were sex workers, who were disabled, or were experiencing housing insecurity. The fact that it took the victim’s sister and a sting operation to capture him speaks volumes, the fact that this didn’t even get media coverage shows how much people don’t give a fuck about black women. 

Can black girls and women just fucking catch a break?

Is it me? Or has Classic Taxi been slipping lately? I remember a few years back, I’d call them and the wait time would be 10 minutes or less. Now I’m waiting 20-45 minutes. A couple of times, I waited an hour or so for them. And this stupid automated shit they got set up now ain’t the wave. They take forever to answer calls now. 

I guess the pandemic has affected the taxi industry too.
