She’s both the figure awaiting all with open arms— the very idea of an afterlife, and also the notion of absolute enigma that surrounds it. Because in the end who knows? Who can tell what “the end” even is? Perhaps Hel can.

Lady of ash who presides over the high-walled hall in the nether realm, I call to you. I cry out in a time of great sorrow, for I know that to you are entrusted lost souls, and with them, deep anguish, innumerable joys, proud memories, unfulfilled dreams and unfinished masterpieces. For you, Daughter of Loki, are the One who welcomes all indefinitely. You are the beginning and the end of all things, who sits under the earth, on a throne of iron and silk.
