A massive well done to our Northern Ireland Humanists team, who have set yet another record-breaking month for humanist marriages. Humanist celebrants conducted 121 weddings in August! Humanist marriages flourish where they are legally recognised. We've seen it happen in Scotland, Jersey, Guernsey, and now in Northern Ireland. Like and share if you support legal recognition of humanist marriages in England and Wales! https://ift.tt/3DUHZLK

So it turns out there is one thing that the political parties of Northern Ireland can agree on: Northern Ireland Humanists does amazing work! 🎉 In all honesty, five years ago when we founded Northern Ireland Humanists, we did not expect to tick off quite so many of our campaigning goals so quickly: humanist marriage ✅, same-sex marriage ✅, legal abortion ✅, humanist visitors in lessons across the country ✅, or humanist pastoral support in prisons and hospitals ✅. Nor we did we expect we'd unite Sinn Fein, the DUP, the UUP, SDLP, Alliance, and People Before Profit in celebration of the good work that humanists do for this country! 💥 But here we are. Evidence, if any were ever needed, of the incredible work our members and volunteers in Northern Ireland are doing! They all deserve a huge round of applause. 👏👏 https://ift.tt/3yzG6QA

Some great words for today by peace activist & humanist politician Fenner Brockway. Brockway dedicated his life to racial equality, world peace, and nuclear disarmament. His message is timeless. https://ift.tt/3DnQ6A5 https://ift.tt/3zq45Dc

This morning, the BBC's Thought for the Day slot was used to broadcast some absolutely hideous remarks about women who choose to have an abortion - all without any degree of challenge or impartiality. In case you weren't aware, humanists and other non-religious people are banned from the morality slot 'Thought for the Day'. The obvious implication is they don't think we are capable of giving moral commentary on current affairs! It's been a longstanding campaign of ours to have this changed. It's completely imbalanced. No challenge to what is said on air. And never any alternative views from a non-religious or humanistic perspective. https://ift.tt/3mDfz2D

Some rather easy going words on relaxation and happiness by David Hume to celebrate today. The Scottish philosopher, often championed as one of the most influential philosophers of all time, died on this day in 1776. https://ift.tt/389p1Co

The majority of the UK is non-religious (a massive 53%!) according to the latest British Social Attitudes Survey. It also suggests that this surge will continue to rise, given that 68% of 18-24 year olds are now non-religious. Source: https://bit.ly/3sJ7DxX https://ift.tt/3mvYtU9
