I love the show yellowjackets but why are everyone’s bare fingers out?

They are in the middle of winter huddled up and freezing but then touching snow with their bare fingers. How have they not all gotten frost bite?

As someone who lives in the freezing cold for half they year, it takes me out of the moment, you can get frostbite it so fast. Please put some mitts on your fingers will thank you!
