The Constellation Effect | Chapter 2
Tumblr media
Pairings: Taehyung x Yoongi; Yoongi x Y/N
Ratings: slow burn, angst, soulmate au, fluff
Summary:
It’s Yoongi’s last year in Hogwarts, his last year to wonder about what he really wants to do after graduating. He can’t think of a worst possible year to start falling for someone who isn’t even able to leave the Hogwarts castle than this one.
It’s Taehyung’s last year before the Sickness finally causes him to slip into that dreaded coma. If only the ghost of his past self could finally pass over so Taehyung could focus on other things: becoming a Dragon Tamer, and finding out who has the same constellation tattoo he has.
It’s Y/N’s last year, or at least she hopes so. Or maybe she doesn’t. It’s kind of difficult when you’re a ghost and in love with your best friend who happens to be graduating soon.
Connecting all three of them is the Constellation Effect, a universal phenomenon that marks everyone with stars and constellations on their shoulders, connecting them through past lives and dictating who belongs with whom.
Featuring: Everything wholesome and NON-NSFW CONTENT *glares at Tumblr*. Just some WHOLESOME dudes in a WHOLESOME Hogwarts and alsosomethingtotaehyungandy/nwhoops
Word Count: 8.2k words
A/N: Omg I’m so sorry this is so laaaaate (reprise). But yay finally I lasted through one (1) sem of college and hopefully my schedule next sem is a bit more bearable. I’ll really try to make a few more headcanons post for you guys (especially now that merry crissums is coming up) but for now, here’s another chapter of The Constellation Effect
Check this out for more info about the soulmate AU

read Part 1
Yoongi always loved the first week of classes when professors were too busy getting adjusted to their class schedules to pile on homework. The best thing about it was that it affected all of his friends’ classes, therefore giving them more time to hang out together as an entire group of seven instead of coming together in small groups. Even though his friends were the most annoying people Yoongi has ever met, he would admit any day that they were closer to him than his family was. Heck, they were probably his real family.
Right now, the seven of them were hanging out at the Quidditch field. Or rather, he, Namjoon, and Taehyung were hauled over to the Quidditch field by Jungkook, Jimin, Seokjin, and Hoseok who couldn’t seem to get through a day without being on their broomsticks at least once. ‘At least they aren’t tossing the Quaffle,’ Yoongi thought to himself. It always felt like there was a hurricane in the Quidditch field whenever Jungkook, Jimin, Hoseok, and Seokjin were on the field.
But, since they weren’t, Yoongi found himself relaxing instead while he started working on his composition for the BigHit internship. Beside him was Namjoon, lost again in a book he was reading, and beside him was Taehyung, staring at the sky with a vacant stare. ‘I guess its one of those days,’ Yoongi thought. Some days Taehyung would be yelling announcer-like comments at the Quidditch players, delighting when they laughed too hard to keep steady on their brooms. On other days he and Namjoon would be deep in conversation or he’d be trying out new Transfiguration spells. There was no pattern of course when it came to what Taehyung would choose to do.
“Hyung,” Namjoon suddenly spoke up, shaking Yoongi out of his thoughts. Namjoon sat up, marked the page he was reading, and tucked his book away. “Are you working on your composition piece?”
“Oh, yeah,” Yoongi nodded, handing the page he was writing on over to Namjoon. His friend scanned the page, fingers tapping and head bobbing to an imaginary beat, before finally looking up at Yoongi.
“So? Tell me your very honest thoughts.”
Namjoon looked up at him. “Well, it sounds kind of boring hyung.”
“I knew you’d say that,” Yoongi sighed and stretched out on the grass, looking up to watch Jungkook and Jimin having another one of their broom stunts contests.
“And it feels pretty rushed too. You should take your time with this,” Namjoon added. “You always said so yourself. Once you take the time to make a good enough hook, everything else comes pretty naturally.”
“I guess I’m just nervous about it that I’m just rushing things,” Yoongi sighed. “Namjoon, I really want to get in.”
“If you think too much about whether you’re going to get in or not you’ll lose inspiration for what you want to create,” Namjoon advised him. Yoongi quirked an eyebrow.
“Who did you quote that from? Steven Hawks?”
“First of all, it’s Stephen Hawking,” Namjoon raised a finger. “And secondly, that was not a quote. That just came from my sexy brain,” he winked.
“The more you talk like Seokjin-hyung, the more I feel like throwing up,” Yoongi gagged.
“The other day I heard him make that ‘Yahh’ noise that Seokjin always makes while eating,” Taehyung piped up. He had turned over so he was lying down facing the two of them. His previously vacant stare was now replaced by a cheeky look on his face. “And don’t get me started about those times when I saw Seokjin-hyung wearing those weird jackets Namjoon-hyung has.”
“Why do you betray me like this, son?” Namjoon sighed sadly.
“Because we’re all one big, happy family,” Yoongi chuckled. Just then, the rest of their friends flew down and landed on the ground a few feet from them.
“Done already?” Yoongi frowned. The four of them usually kept on flying until after sundown. “It’s only three in the afternoon.”
“Yeah, but dance classes start in an hour and I need to get changed,” Seokjin said, wiping the dripping sweat from his forehead.
“No way, you’re actually signing up for that?” Yoongi laughed incredulously.
“We’re joining too,” Jungkook added, pointing his thumb at Jimin who was resting his chin on Jungkook’s shoulder. “Mostly because this guy in our class said that there was no way two guys could dance the waltz better than a guy and a girl.”
“Competition does force people to do crazy things,” Hoseok chuckled and plopped down on the grass beside Yoongi who nodded his head.
“Well, you guys knock yourselves out. I’ll treasure my valuable naptime,” he stretched and laid back down in the grass. In truth, he’d just rather spend more of his extra time with Y/N. She did tend to get lonely after a while. She wasn’t really like all the other Hogwarts ghosts who tended to just walk in and out of rooms whenever they pleased, even if there were classes going on. Y/N rarely ever showed herself to people besides Yoongi. When she wandered out of her usual Astronomy Tower nook, she’d do so in the middle of the night. Part of Yoongi wanted to introduce her to his friends who’d no doubt accept her and keep her company while he was gone. But another part kind of wanted to just keep Y/N to himself.
“You’re not joining the dance classes, Hoseok-hyung?” Taehyung piped up.
“He’s the last guy who would need dance classes,” Namjoon shook his head. Hoseok grinned and shrugged a shoulder.
“What can I say? Dancing is in my blood.”
“You probably don’t need to look for a date either,” Yoongi poked him.
“They’ll probably line up for him in the Yule Ball,” Namjoon added.
“Aish, you two are making me blush,” Hoseok waved his hand at them.
“Hey, you know what?” Seokjin crouched down on the grass in front of them. “Let’s make a bet.”
“I’m listening,” Jungkook grinned and leaned in closer. Yoongi groaned as he felt others closing in on his space to listen to Seokjin.
“I bet that Hoseok can’t make Headmistress McGonagall dance with him during the Yule Ball,” Seokjin grinned.
“Hey, are you doubting Hoseok-hyung’s powers?” Taehyung stood up.
“That’s my boy!” Hoseok grinned up at him. Jungkook and Jimin burst out laughing.
“That’s why we’re making a bet,” Seokjin said. “I’m against. Who’s with me?”
“I am,” Namjoon raised his hand. “I know Headmistress McGonagall and I know that everyone in this school, including me, would want to dance with Hoseok. But no offense, I don’t think even Professor McGonagall would do that.”
“Same here,” Yoongi raised his hand, grinning.
“Wow, even you,” Hoseok flashed him a look of mock-betrayal. “I thought we were forever brothers.”
“I guess the three of us left and Hoseok are for him being able to dance with McGonagall,” Jungkook piped up.
“Yeah, and no funny business you three,” Seokjin raised a finger in warning at them. “We do this bet fair and square.”
“Alright, alright,” Jimin nodded.
“We swear on our Marauders Map,” Taehyung raised his hand. Satisfied, Seokjin nodded.
“Wait, what are the stakes for this bet though?” Hoseok asked.
“Hmmm… how about losers have to throw a party for the winners during the winter break,” Jimin suggested.
“That sounds good,” Namjoon nodded.
“I’m in too,” Yoongi agreed. The rest shook their heads as well.
“It’s settled then,” Seokjin grinned and stood up. “No backing out. And Hoseok, may the odds be ever in your favor.”
“I won’t let my children down,” Hoseok said. The three maknaes clapped their hands.
“Hey, if you guys want to catch the dance classes you better hurry,” Yoongi reminded them.
“Oh, right!” Namjoon scrambled to his feet. Seokjin, Jungkook, and Jimin swung their brooms over their shoulders and left as one group.
“I’ll get going too,” Yoongi stood up and dusted off his pants.
“Aw, hyung,” Taehyung pouted. With his dark brown hair, he reminded Yoongi of a little puppy.
“Sorry, I’ve got to work on my composition piece,” Yoongi waved his notebook.
“Oh, good luck with that hyung,” Hoseok grinned.
“Thanks,” Yoongi nodded and turned around, walking off to the castle in the direction of the Astronomy Tower.
“Y/N, I’m here,” Yoongi called once he opened the door to the old Astronomy classroom. You weren’t there sitting on your usual spot by the windowsill. ‘Maybe she’s still talking to the Gray Lady,’ Yoongi thought, walking down the aisle of empty, dusty desks and chairs. The classroom was abandoned even before Yoongi started his first year at Hogwarts. The new Astronomy classroom was relocated to the upper floor when the tower was extended to add more height. Yoongi also noticed that the new classroom had more windows circulating its walls compared to the one he was in now which only had one window facing the west.
One of the reasons why Yoongi was drawn to this classroom, even before he found out that you haunted it, was because of the small stand piano placed against the wall near where the professor’s desk was. Yoongi had no idea why there was a piano in an Astronomy classroom, maybe because it was used as the Music classroom too before, but either way, he was delighted to find it.
Yoongi walked closer to it and ran his fingers over the dusty wooden covering of the piano. He smiled, remembering how he had brought up some rags and wood polish one day, years ago, and spent the entire day dusting and polishing the old piano. Right now, just a bit of dusting was needed. Finally, Yoongi opened the lid and ran his fingers lightly over the slightly dusty ivory keys, easily picking out and playing a simple melody.
“Sorry I’m late.”
Yoongi smiled at the sound of your voice without turning around. He felt a chill near his back as you approached. “Hey, remember when we first met? When you finally came out when you heard me playing after weeks of stalking.”
“Hey, I wasn’t stalking you,” you huffed. “I was here in this room first and I just stayed invisible because I was shy.” You floated closer and sat down beside him on the piano bench. “But thank goodness you made a friend like me. You wouldn’t have been able to see that awesome basilisk skeleton in the Chamber of Secrets if it weren’t for me and my Parseltongue skills.”
“You mean your partial Parseltongue skills?” Yoongi raised an eyebrow.
“Hey, it opened the door!”
“After three tries!” Yoongi laughed as he continued to play. The melody he played was light and even a little melancholic. You pouted and crossed your arms. “Fine, I admit it. I still wouldn’t have gotten into the Chamber of Secrets without your help. Even if it did take three tries.”
“I’m glad you acknowledge my strengths,” you smiled. “But wait, why are you here? There’s a dance class going on in the Great Hall. I saw your friends there having a pretty good time.”
“Do I look like someone who takes dance classes?” Yoongi raised an eyebrow at you. You laughed slightly.
“Well, you do have a pretty good handle on music and beats,” you pointed out.
“Hmm, good point,” he nodded. “But I’m not really into dancing. And besides, I think its forr those who want to go to the Yule Ball.”
“Wait, wait,” you looked at him with wide eyes. Yoongi stopped playing. “Does this mean you’re thinking of not going to the Yule Ball? How come?”
“I know it’s my last year in Hogwarts Y/N,” Yoongi sighed, “But the thought of being in the Yule Ball, even if I’m with my friends, just makes me nervous. There’s going to be so many people there…” Yoongi paused, thinking of that overwhelming feeling of being in a crowded space full of people. “Anyway, it’s just not going to be my thing.”
“Alright, I get it,” you nodded.
“I know you’d like to go, wouldn’t you?” Yoongi looked up at you.
“Yeah,” you let out a breathy laugh. “I wish they had those things during my time. I have no idea how to dance but I bet I would have been amazing if I learned how.”
“You mean like how you are with Parseltongue?” Yoongi teased good-naturedly. But underneath it, he couldn’t help but feel sad again for you. You were caught in the in-between of living and dying, aware of what you could do if you were alive but unable to do it because you were dead. Unlike him, you seemed so sure of what you wanted to do; the conversations you two had were often filled with you talking about your own dreams and what you wanted to do if your life hadn’t ended so soon. Yoongi just felt stuck and unsure, grasping onto the nearest things within sight. Like the BigHit internship. If he did get it, Yoongi still wouldn’t know what quite to do after.
Maybe you’re the one who’s supposed to be alive, not him.
“You know, my friends and I made a bet earlier,” he spoke up. You turned and cocked your head slightly at him as you listened. “We made a bet on whether or not Hoseok would be able to get Headmistress McGonagall to dance with him during the Yule Ball.”
“No way,” you laughed. “What did you bet on?”
“I bet that she wouldn’t dance with him,” Yoongi answered. “But what do you think? You’ve known her longest.”
“I think… you’re going to lose,” you grinned at him. “Sorry, but you’re going to lose.”
“No way,” Yoongi groaned. “How come?”
“I have prior evidence,” you said, not shying away from being mysterious.
“Well, that is going to be quite entertaining to watch.”
“Do I hear someone reconsidering going to the Yule Ball?”
“Fine, maybe towards the end, when there are less people,” Yoongi sighed.
“Yay!” you cheered.
“But that’s going to eat up on my composing time,” Yoongi said. “So you better help me out. Namjoon said the hook I tried to write earlier was boring.”
“Well, we better get started then,” you grinned.
The two of you got to work with Yoongi playing and testing out a few pieces and you pitching suggestions. The light from the setting sun through the window behind you two created shadows against the wall near the piano and Yoongi finally decided that it was time to stop when he could no longer read his scribbles on his black lyric notebook.
“Well, that’s a lot of progress,” you said, floating up from the piano bench.
“Yeah,” Yoongi nodded, closing his notebook and tucking it away in his leather bookbag. “I’ll just get some dinner and I’ll come back later, okay?”
“Sure,” you nodded, floating over to your spot by the windowsill. “You don’t have to stay up late though, if you still have things to do.”
“I’ll still come by even if I have things to do, don’t be silly,” Yoongi frowned slightly. You looked up at him and smiled. Yoongi couldn’t escape how sad you looked.
He didn’t want to stay and hear what you would say next.
“See you later. Don’t forget to send Peeves after Filch,” he said, instead of his usual goodbye. ‘Because I don’t need to,’ he thought, closing the door and descending the stairs.
“You’ll come back, Yoongi,” you whispered after him. “Even if you have six friends who I know are willing to spend all their time with you. Even though its your last year and you’re supposed to spend it doing things other than hanging out with a dead girl. You’ll come back, and I don’t think that’s a good thing.”
But despite all that, you picked up your hourglass and flipped it over, ready to count the hours until you would see Yoongi later again.
“Still no letter,” Taehyung pouted, checking the Owlery for the second time during the day, three days after he had sent his letter to Pendleton.
“Relax Taehyung, maybe he’s still just reading all of them,” Jimin said, laying a comforting hand on his shoulder. Taehyung’s owl, a barn owl he named ‘Scamander’ after one of his favorite wizards, hooted and flapped his wings in slight annoyance from being woken up again by his master.
“Sorry Scamander,” Taehyung apologized, reaching into his pocket to pull out a strip of beef jerky he had saved from lunchtime. “Here,” he smiled, giving it to Scamander who accepted the apology gift with another hoot.
“Yow!”
Taehyung and Jimin turned around suddenly at the sound of Jungkook yelping in pain. He shook his hand before raising a cut finger to his mouth.
“Spiderman bit me again,” Jungkook whined, making a face at his owl who ruffled its feathers at him.
“I can’t believe you’re still calling him Spiderman after all these years,” Jimin sighed.
“The name is stuck and will therefore never be changed,” Jungkook said adamantly. He looked at Taehyung and Scamander. “How come yours is so nice to you? You probably send more letters than I do.”
“Maybe it’s because I don’t make him mail all of my comic book subscriptions,” Taehyung looked pointedly at Jungkook. “Spiderman’s probably tired.”
“I guess he can’t do whatever a spider can,” Jungkook sighed and shook his head sadly. Jimin burst out laughing and punched Jungkook lightly on the shoulder for the joke. Taehyung rolled his eyes but smiled at the two of them. They were one of the few lucky ones who found out about their partners early. But Taehyung believed that they would still be quite close even if their constellation tattoos weren’t similar.
“Hey, let’s go over to Hagrid’s already. He said he’ll be waiting for us,” he said.
“Oh, yeah! He said he’d have something to show us,” Jimin added as the three of them started heading down the winding steps that led to the Owlery.
“Do you think it’s another dragon egg?” Jungkook asked, going ahead of them by hopping on the steps two-by-two. ‘Seokjin-hyung would flip if he saw this,’ Taehyung thought with a grin on his face as he followed behind with Jimin beside him. Seokjin always said that Jungkook would break his neck falling off something one of these days but so far, Jungkook has escaped any dangerous scenario unscathed.
“Nah, Hagrid must have learned his lesson,” Taehyung shook his head. “I bet it’s a baby sea serpent!”
“I did see him hauling buckets of water to his hut earlier,” Jimin added thoughtfully as the three of them reached the bottom of the staircase. The Owlery tower wasn’t quite connected to the rest of the castle since the stairs reached the Hogwarts grounds near the courtyard.
“Sea serpent, huh?” Jungkook placed his hands on his hips. “Well… LAST ONE TO HAGRID’S HUT IS AN UGLY SEA SERPENT!” he yelled before dashing off in the direction of the Hogwarts grounds. Jimin and Taehyung glanced at each other before dashing off after Jungkook as well, laughing and attempting to push each other backwards. Neither of them knew they could catch up to Jungkook, especially after his head-start, but neither of them wanted to be last either.
“THIS ONE’S NOT AN UGLY SEA SERPENT!” they heard Jungkook yell.
“NO FAIR!” Jimin yelled after him as he and Taehyung finally saw Hagrid’s hut, with a cheering and dancing Jungkook, come into view. Taehyung urged his legs to run faster, giving Jimin one last push back, and sprinted forward. He stretched out his hand and finally let himself collapse to the ground as soon as he touched the wall of Hagrid’s hut.
“And the winner is… Kim Taehyung!” Jungkook waved a hand out in a gesture at him. Jimin, who touched the wall next to Taehyung two seconds after he did, groaned and kicked at the wall.
“I sure feel like a winner,” Taehyung panted, lying down on the ground.
“Of course, I’m still the real winner here,” Jungkook grinned cheekily down at Taehyung.
“That’s because you cheated… again,” Jimin accused. Suddenly, the door opened and Hagrid’s familiar, bearded, friendly face peeked out.
“Hagrid!” Taehyung grinned and waved up at him.
“What are ye all doin’ out ‘ere?” Hagrid’s gaze drifted from Taehyung to Jungkook to Jimin. “I’ve been waitin’ in ‘ere for half an hour! Come on in!”
Jungkook’s eyes lit up. “Last one inside’s a—”
“Not now Jungkook,” Jimin kicked him in the shin. Taehyung scrambled to his feet and followed his friends into Hagrid’s hut. Inside, Taehyung was immediately struck by the giant tub of water that occupied what used to be Hagrid’s dining area. Empty but still-wet buckets of water filled the living room. Hagrid went ahead, navigating through the buckets, to reach the tub.
“You… have a swimming pool?” Jungkook raised an eyebrow as he carefully made his way through the maze of buckets. Jimin, despite having lost the race earlier, made his way into the dining area with ease.
“You got a water creature? Didn’t you?” Taehyung grinned excitedly as he hopped over the last bucket. Hagrid’s eyes twinkled at him.
“Ye better have yerself a look to see what it is.”
The three of them excitedly crowded around the edge of the tub. Inside, Hagrid had placed a few mossy rocks and even carefully arranged growths of seaweed. In the middle of the tub, right at the bottom, was an egg.
“What kind of creature is it?” Jimin asked, nudging Taehyung with his elbow.
“Hmm…” Taehyung pouted in concentration. The egg didn’t have a hard shell and was in fact quite watery-looking. Kind of like a frog’s egg, only much bigger. When Taehyung looked closer he saw that the egg’s colors seemed to shift and change every so slightly, as if the changes were caused by tricks of the light.
“Is that what I think it is?” Taehyung looked up at Hagrid in amazement. “A hippocampus egg?”
“Right ye are,” he chuckled, rubbing Taehyung’s head with his giant hand. “Expected no less from me star student.”
“I had a good teacher,” Taehyung blushed at the comment.
“Where did you get a hold of it Hagrid? When’s it going to hatch?” Jungkook bombarded him with questions.
“Got it from an ol’ friend of mine,” Hagrid winked at them. “As fer the when it’s gonna hatch, well it should be in about a week or two.”
“Where are you going to keep it after?” Jimin asked.
“Well, can’t exactly throw it in the Great Lake,” Hagrid shrugged. “This ‘ere’s a saltwater fella. But I can call up some fellas to help me move her when the time comes.”
“It’s a shame we can’t see it after that,” Taehyung pouted. “But it is going to be cool to watch it hatch.”
“That egg ain’t doin’ much fer now,” Hagrid shrugged and went over to the stove. “Tea anyone? Just baked a new batch of treacle fudge too.”
“Just tea,” Taehyung, Jungkook, and Jimin chorused.
“Suit yerself,” Hagrid shrugged and put the kettle on before popping some of his treacle fudge into his mouth. He chewed it noisily before settling into a chair. “Oh, ye hear from Pendleton yet?” he asked, nodding at Taehyung.
“Not yet…” he pouted.
“He’s probably still checking his mail,” Jimin explained. “But I bet it’ll arrive soon.”
“Do you think he’ll send an autographed picture of himself?” Jungkook looked up excitedly.
“If he did, Taehyungie’s keeping it,” Jimin swatted him on the back of his head.
“That’s if I hear back from him,” Taehyung said glumly. “I don’t think my essay was that good, even if Yoongi-hyung helped me.”
“Well, if ye ain’t gettin’ it now, there’s always a next time,” Hagrid said. Taehyung looked up at him sadly and Hagrid’s face fell as realization came upon him. “I-I mean…”
“There will be a next time,” Jungkook said forcefully. “Taehyung’s not going into that coma.”
“Thanks Jungkookie,” Taehyung smiled and rested his head on his shoulder. Jimin grinned and hugged both of them.
“Yer right,” Hagrid chuckled. “Ye three better stick together and with the rest of yer friends. Taehyung’s gonna need all that. We’re all crossing our fingers for ye.”
“Thanks you guys,” Taehyung sighed contentedly.
“So in case Pendleton writes back, can I keep his signature?” Jungkook asked again.
“Jungkook!” Jimin punched his shoulder again.
After hanging around at Hagrid’s for two more hours, the three of them decided to head back to the castle for dinner. Jungkook and Jimin had their own Quidditch meetings to attend so Taehyung ended up sitting with his hyungs: Namjoon, Seokjin, and Yoongi, instead. Namjoon and Seokjin shared stories about their dance class. The part about Namjoon tripping and accidentally dropping Seokjin to the floor while they were working on a particularly difficult move made Yoongi laugh hard enough and almost spit out his drink. Taehyung treasured seeing his hyung’s gummy smile.
Taehyung started crushing on Yoongi two years ago, he could even pinpoint the exact moment when. It was during his first scheduled field trip to Hogsmeade in September. Taehyung was unable to go because he had a fainting spell that afternoon and had only woken up once everyone else left. Yoongi caught him moping around in the courtyard and, remembering that the third-years were supposed to have a visit to Hogsmeade that day, decided to sneak him out using the passageway he discovered. Taehyung remembered how cool Yoongi looked that day and how his little, thirteen year-old heart had fluttered every time Yoongi so much as nudged him with an elbow or placed a hand on his shoulder.
He expected his crush to wear off after that year, and the next. But somehow, he still had feelings for Yoongi. Taehyung would admit that the two of them were quite different when it came to actions and expressions, but he believed that Yoongi truly was gently and caring person. Perhaps even more caring than Hoseok or even Seokjin, not that he would admit it in front of them. And above of all, Taehyung loved how Yoongi was comfortable with being himself. Yoongi was Yoongi.
“Well, see you guys,” he said, standing up from table. Taehyung was jolted out of his thoughts.
“You’re leaving already?” he asked, feeling himself pout slightly.
“Yeah, working on that composition piece,” Yoongi sighed. Up close, Taehyung could see the bags under his eyes.
“Don’t forget to rest hyung,” Namjoon reminded him. “I think your stuff has been pretty good so far so no need to stress yet.”
“Thanks,” Yoongi nodded. But to Taehyung, the gesture felt as if he was just waving off what Namjoon said. That only increased his worrying.
“Don’t forget to get some sleep hyung!” he called after him. Yoongi waved again in response as he walked away from the table and left the Great Hall.
“Aish, you’re really whipped for him,” Seokjin scoffed, smacking him lightly on the head. “Could you be any more obvious?”
“I don’t exactly know what to do. It’s my first time having a crush on someone,” Taehyung blushed.
“Don’t worry, Seokjin was way worse,” Namjoon shook his head. Now it was Seokjin’s turn to blush.
“Don’t say it—”
“You should see his collection of poetry that he still keeps in a box under his bed—”
“Namjoon!”
“I should be the one smacking you, hyung!” Taehyung roared with laughter.
“Shut up!” Seokjin hissed at him and Namjoon. “Or else—”
“You’re not allowed to use your Head Boy privileges here,” Namjoon snickered.
“Whatever, we were talking about Taehyung and his crush.” Taehyung sighed at the change in topic again and stood up.
“Hey, you haven’t been excused from the table yet,” Seokjin said.
“Reminder: this is not a family dinner table,” Namjoon placed a hand on his shoulder. “See you tomorrow Taehyung.”
“Bye hyung,” Taehyung chuckled slightly, waving at the two of them before finally leaving the Great Hall.
“Thanks again for helping me with this, hyung,” Taehyung grinned, slinging an arm around Namjoon’s shoulder while he finished up the last question on his History of Magic report.
“Glad to help,” Namjoon smiled kindly and shuffled the pile of neat, handwritten notes Seokjin had lent them. “And besides, we wouldn’t have done it without these.” The two of them were in the Ravenclaw Common Room which, as usual, was buzzing with noise and activity from Ravenclaws poring over books, concocting potions, and testing out spells. Having different friends, Taehyung new the distinct noises in every House’s Common Rooms. Gryffindor’s was loud and rambunctious while Hufflepuff’s was muffled with bursts of warm laughter in-between. Slytherin was a bit hard to describe. It always seemed to change from the busy, buzzing noises, to soft whispers, to loud bouts of laughter, to the mixed sounds of exchanged arguments. But despite all that, there was always, always the sound of waves from the Great Lake, lapping gently from outside.
“Are you doing anything else after this?” Namjoon asked, looking over at Taehyung who had been sitting in silence for quite some time.
“Oh, just some Care of Magical Creatures homework,” Taehyung answered. “But I can just do that before bed. What about you hyung?”
“Well, Yoongi-hyung’s coming over in a few minutes,” Namjoon said, casually checking his watch while Taehyung noted his heart skip a beat. “He’s asking me to check his progress on his composition.”
“How do you think Yoongi-hyung’s doing?”
“Hmm…” Namjoon glanced up at the starry ceiling thoughtfully. “His compositions so far have been good fundamentally – nice rhythm, catchy melody, all that – but I feel like they’re missing something. Yoongi has a way of making things flow well together and at the same time pour a lot of emotion, not only in the lyrics but in the actual music itself. Right now, it feels like Yoongi’s forcing himself to put something out so there’s no emotion in what he’s written so far.” Namjoon paused to scratch the back of his head and sighed. Taehyung felt worry drop in his stomach like a lead weight. “I just hope he manages to pull himself together a little more before the due date comes around.”
“He’ll do it, I’m sure he can,” Taehyung reassured him. Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, Taehyung spotted Yoongi come in through the Common Room door. As he approached, Taehyung noticed that his under-eye circles were even darker than usual.
“Hey, Namjoon,” Yoongi sighed. Taehyung moved a seat over so Yoongi could sit in between him and Namjoon.
“I’m guessing you had two hours of sleep again,” Namjoon replied. Yoongi nodded but didn’t say anything. He pushed his black, leather notebook towards Namjoon, before folding his arms on top of the table and resting his head on them.
“Aw, he looks like a cat,” Taehyung whispered, giggling as he watched his hyung.
“I’m still awake you know,” Yoongi mumbled.
“We’ll wake you up when it’s time for dinner,” Namjoon said, opening Yoongi’s notebook. Taehyung leaned back in his chair and watched Yoongi sleep, resisting the urge to push his bangs back slightly. Yoongi looked so calm, so peaceful, so—
THUMP!
“Whatwasthat?” Yoongi scowled and sat up quickly. Taehyung and Namjoon themselves jumped at the sound of the noise. That’s when Taehyung saw it, a large horned owl, almost as big as Scamander, flying outside the window. In its claws was a scroll tied together with twine and sporting a red seal on top of it. Taehyung opened the window to let it in. The owl hooted and landed on the desk in front of Taehyung.
“Why couldn’t it have gone through the Owlery like normal owls,” Yoongi huffed, glaring at the owl who interrupted his sleep.
“Maybe it’s urgent,” Namjoon shrugged. The owl hooted at Taehyung and nipped his finger.
“Ow!,” he yelped in pain. “Is… is that for me?” he asked, pointing at the letter. The owl hooted again and stepped of the parchment. Taehyung picked it up and upon closer inspection, saw the intricately detailed Hungarian Horntail on the seal.
“It’s from Pendleton!” Taehyung gasped. Namjoon’s head snapped up at him, eyes wide and nervous. Even Yoongi sat up at full attention.
“Well, what are you waiting for? Open it!” Yoongi pressed him. Taehyung looked up at him, swallowed nervously and broke the seal. He heard Namjoon breath in sharply.
“What if… what if it’s a rejection?” Taehyung whispered, feeling his hands tremble slightly. His eyes locked onto Yoongi’s. The older boy glanced down at the letter and then up at Taehyung before pressing his own hands on Taehyung’s shaking ones.
“What if it isn’t?” Yoongi smiled.
Taehyung swallowed again, feeling a stab of intensity coming from Yoongi’s gaze. Finally, he looked down and pulled the letter out of its envelope before quickly unfolding it.
“Dear Kim Taehyung,” he read aloud, feeling his voice shake as he enunciated every syllable. “I am writing to inform you that you have passed the first part of the application process for Pendleton’s Dragon Tamer Apprenticeship…”
Silence fell and Taehyung looked up at Namjoon, whose mouth was currently hanging open, as if asking him if he understood what had just been written. Then, his eyes dropped back down to the letter, re-reading it.
“I…”
“You passed it Taehyung!” Namjoon and Yoongi yelled in unison. Taehyung stared dumbly at the letter in his hands even as his hyungs bear-hugged him. Then, the realization dawned and he started crying.
“I passed it,” he sniffed, wiping the tears of joy from his eyes. Yoongi’s face, despite his dark under-eye circles, was completely lit with joy as he smiled his signature gummy smile. Namjoon just kept on screaming and thumping his back.
“You did it Taehyungie! We knew you could,” he cheered.
“Hey, we have to celebrate with everyone,” Yoongi said. “Let’s go to Hogsmeade! Or get barbecue in the Room of Requirement! Or…”
“Why don’t you call everyone first hyung,” Namjoon laughed and slung an arm around Taehyung.
“I-I better write to Mom and Dad,” Taehyung sniffed and wiped at his eyes again before re-reading the letter for the second time.
“Hey, it’s real okay?” Yoongi laughed at him. “That letter isn’t going to disintegrate. You passed the first part of your application. Be proud of yourself.”
“I will, hyung,” Taehyung grinned at him despite the fresh tears in his eyes from Yoongi’s words.
“I’ll get Hoseok and the others, okay?” he said, grinning at Taehyung one last time before leaving the Common Room in search of the others. Taehyung sat down, partly from the shock and partly because he needed to write a letter to his parent, and set Pendleton’s letter gently in front of him. His fingers gently skimmed over Pendleton’s signature at the bottom of the page. Namjoon’s hands were on his shoulders and Taehyung felt his cheeks beginning to ache from smiling so hard. Right now, all that mattered was the letter and all the smiles he and Yoongi exchanged. Not the Sleeping Sickness, not his final year, and not the constellation tattoo on his shoulder.
On some days, you preferred watching the sunset at the Quidditch field instead of in your old Astronomy classroom. From the bleachers, you had a better view of the Hogwarts grounds, the castle to your left and the Forbidden Forest to your right, and of the sun reflected and shimmering on the surface of the silvery Great Lake. To you, it was worth the effort of going down to the Quidditch field and making yourself invisible the entire time to watch the sunset.
But of course, there were some downsides to being at the Quidditch area.
“Jimin, go long!”
“Ahh! Not again!”
You turned around at the loud yelling to find Hoseok tossing the Quaffle almost halfway across the court and Jimin racing after it on his broom before catching the ball with two hands. Seokjin and Jungkook were nearby, hovering on their brooms and clapping at their friends’ performance. Despite the noise, you found a small smile gracing your face as you watched Yoongi’s friends. He had introduced you to the them from afar when the two of you watched a game between Hufflepuff and Gryffindor. You could easily see why Yoongi was friends with them. Despite how different they all were from each other, they rarely left each other behind and any problems were open amongst themselves. Yoongi would have gladly introduced you to them, if you hadn’t declined out of shyness. It wasn’t as if you thought they wouldn’t accept you, just that the circle of friendship they had wasn’t something you wanted to intrude in.
“Wow, that would have gone all the way to Busan if Jimin hadn’t caught it,” Jungkook joked.
“I thought I saw Hoseok’s shoulder dislocate there for a second,” Seokjin played along. Hoseok and Jimin laughed and joined them.
“Just practicing to kick your butts when Quidditch season finally comes, right hyung?” Jimin grinned and fist-bumped the older Hufflepuff.
“I’ll snatch the Snitch from right under your noses before you do,” Jungkook said, snapping his fingers right in front of Jimin’s face.
“Aish! You little brat!”
You giggled as you watched the four of them bicker with voices loud enough to reach where you were sitting. It made you think about the time you spent with your friends, even though they were quite a few. None of you were in the Quidditch team but you always rooted for your own Houses, even going so far as to making banners and distributing pennants during games. It was all a lot of fun, fun that ended too soon in your seventh year when you got sick from pneumonia. Your immune system was never that good and the sickness snuffed you quickly before the school could transport you to a hospital.
The most common kinds of ghosts were young people. Of course, it’s because they died before they had a real chance at living in the world. You were far from an exception to that.
‘And now another young person is going to suffer a coma because of me, because I still don’t know how to pass on,’ you sighed, thinking to yourself. And then, you spotted your one reason for staying run out into the middle of the Quidditch field.
“Guys!” he yelled. You floated down to the lower part of the bleachers to hear what he was saying better. “Guys, Taehyung got a response back from Pendleton. He passed the first part of the application process!”
“No way!” Jimin and Jungkook yelled in unison. Hoseok and Seokjin cheered and hugged each other. You laughed at hearing Seokjin say “That’s my son.”
“We’re having a party to celebrate,” Yoongi panted. You noticed how out of breath and tired he looked. ‘He must have run all the way from inside the castle,’ you thought. But despite that exhaustion, Yoongi had a bright grin on his face that made your heart flutter.
“Well then, let’s celebrate!” Jungkook cheered, descending and finally disembarking from his broom once he reached the ground. The others followed suit.
“I was thinking barbecue in Hogsmeade,” Hoseok said, slinging an arm around Yoongi as the five of them started to make their way back to the castle.
‘That’s great news,’ you thought, smiling as you watched them leave. Yoongi told you about Taehyung and the apprenticeship he was dying to get into. You didn’t know the boy quite well but it made you happy all the same because of the simple fact that he was Yoongi’s friend. At the same time, you couldn’t help but feel another stab of sadness as you watched Yoongi leave with his friends. The sight of them together with their backs toward you made you think about all those times you pretended to be a part of the friend groups you’d see hanging around together. You would talk sometimes during their conversations, pretending that they could hear you and would answer, or simply follow them around the castle. Of course, in the end, you were still an outsider.
‘I guess that means Yoongi can’t come over later,’ you thought glumly as you floated up the floors in the castle before deciding to drift around the fourth floor. It was late afternoon, bordering on nighttime, and there were barely any students around. At this time, most of them would be holed up in their Common Rooms, the library, or in the Great Hall waiting for dinner. All of them, like always, were either in pairs or in groups.
Except for this one kid.
He was walking with his head down, quite concentrated on his task of putting a letter into an envelope, as he headed off in the direction of the Owlery. You stopped to watch him and felt a jolt of surprise when he stopped too, just a few feet from you, to finish putting his letter in the envelope and sealing it off. Now that you were closer, you realized that the kid was Kim Taehyung, one of Yoongi’s friends, the one who had the Sleeping Sickness.
‘Poor kid,’ you thought, flashing him a sad smile, even though you knew he couldn’t see it. But to your surprise, once again, Taehyung glanced up. You knew you were still invisible and the look on Taehyung’s face made it clear that he couldn’t see you. But you couldn’t help but notice that Taehyung looked as if he was searching for something. It was as if you told him you were invisible right in front of him and he was just looking for you.
If you had skin, you would have felt a chill by then. You wanted to be as far away from Kim Taehyung as possible but when he head off to the Owlery again, you couldn’t help but float after him as he climbed up the winding staircase of the tower. As soon as he reached the top, he skipped into the Owlery, stopping in front of a nook where a large barn owl was resting.
“Hey Scamander,” he cooed, lifting a finger to stroke his owl on the forehead. “Guess who got great news to share with mom and dad?” The owl hooted and flapped its wings in response. You grinned while watching him, forgetting that strange moment from earlier. Maybe it was just a matter of coincidence that you stopped at the same time and he looked up at you. For a moment back there, it felt as if the two of you were connected somehow, by some kind of—.
“Scamander…” Taehyung gasped slightly before you watched him swoon and fall down to the hay-covered floor of the Owlery. You winced at the loud sound of his body making contact with the hard surface of the floor. Scamander hooted and immediately flew out of its roost. You felt that strange chill that you felt earlier go through you again but you couldn’t help but float closer to Taehyung. His eyes were half-lidded and he was inches away from losing consciousness completely when his eyes landed on yours.
“Kim Taehyung,” you found yourself whispering softly before Taehyung’s eyes closed. ‘It can’t be,’ you thought, dropping down until you were hovering closely above him. There was only one way to find out if what you were thinking was true. You raised your hand over the buttons on his white shirt, slowly undoing them, before pulling it aside across his shoulder.
And just like that, you felt the Universe spit in your face.
You could never, ever forget how your tattoo looked and now, it was right there in front of you, imprinted on Taehyung’s shoulder.
“No…” you felt a sob escape your chest as you raised both hands to your face. “No,no,no,no,no…”
The stars and the lines connecting them were the same as the markings you once had on your own shoulder. It was as clear as day. Taehyung was you.
“Taehyung! Taehyungie!” You heard someone’s yelling echo through the stairwell to your left. Quickly, you redid the buttons on Taehyung’s shirt and made yourself invisible again before you saw his friends, Jungkook and Jimin, walk into the Owlery.
“Taehyung!” Jimin gasped in surprise and quickly ran over to his unconscious friend lying in the middle of the Owlery.
“Check if he hit his head too hard. We don’t want him having another concussion,” Jungkook told Jimin. “I’ll run down and get Madame Pomfrey.”
“You do that,” Jimin nodded just before Jungkook sprinted off down the stairs. He turned his worried gaze to his friend. “Oh Taehyung,” he sighed. “I hope you get better soon.”
‘And it’s all my fault,’ you said to yourself. ‘It’s all my fault.’ Throwing yourself down the Owlery tower was more than you deserved but you couldn’t even do that. You could only float and watch as you ruined someone else’s life.
“It really had to be today,” Seokjin sighed. “Man, I really was about to treat everyone to barbecue,” he added in a light, joking tone that didn’t quite drown out the nervous shake of his voice. Nor the sharp pain Yoongi felt on his arm as Seokjin dug his fingernails in holding onto it.
Everyone there in the infirmary watched with bated breath while Madame Pomfrey plucked a strand of Taehyung’s hair while he was unconscious on a hospital bed. She dropped the hair strand into a solution of condensed mermaid’s breath and rosewater. One of the new discoveries in the field of Sleeping Sickness was this procedure that tested whether the patient had slipped into their final coma or not.
‘Please don’t let this be it. Please…’ Yoongi bit his lip worriedly as he waited for the solution to change color. ‘Taehyung just got accepted by Pendleton, don’t take this away from him just yet.’ Then, the transparent liquid in the vial turned into a pale, minty color and everyone around Taehyung’s bed, including Madame Pomfrey, breathed out a sigh of relief.
“He’ll be okay,” Jimin sniffed and quickly wiped at his eyes. Jungkook put an arm around his shoulder.
“Yeah, thank God,” Namjoon sighed, running a hand through his hair.
“Sad that it had to happen today of all days too,” Yoongi added. The rest murmured and nodded in unison.
“Well, now that your friend is out of danger I suggest the rest of you get some sleep,” Madame Pomfrey stood up and began packing away her equipment. “Taehyung should be awake tomorrow morning.”
“Let’s go back and visit him then,” Hoseok said. “And then maybe we can actually go out for barbecue.”
“Sounds like a plan,” Seokjin grinned, looking way more relaxed than he did earlier. And with that, the six of them said their goodbyes to Taehyung before leaving. Yoongi was the last to leave; he stole a pillow from a nearby hospital bed to place right next to Taehyung, just in case he needed to hug something in his sleep. Madame Pomfrey watched him but didn’t say anything.
With Jungkook opting to walk Jimin back to his Common Room, Yoongi was left alone for a while on the way to the Slytherin Common Room. He couldn’t stop thinking about the sight of Taehyung lying motionless on the floor of the Owlery with the letter to his parents still clutched in his hand or that heart-stopping moment of waiting for the solution to change color. It reminded him of how soon it was all going to be for Taehyung, that one day Yoongi would see him unconscious again and the solution would turn a bright red instead of green, spelling the end.
‘No, not the end,’ Yoongi shook his head, forcing the thought out. ‘His past self could still change what’s going to happen.’ He was just hoping it would happen sooner rather than later.
As he neared the Common Room entrance, Yoongi suddenly felt a sharp chill behind him and turned around to find you floating right behind him. All of a sudden, he felt a bit happier despite what had just happened. Talking to you was definitely going to get things off his chest.”
“Hey, Y/N,” he smiled. “I’ll go up to your room in a while. I was just a little late because of this—"
“Kim Taehyung,” you suddenly spoke up. Yoongi frowned at the tone of your voice and the grim, slightly vacant look on your face. “He fainted again, didn’t he?”
“Yeah,” Yoongi nodded. “H-how did you know?”
“Is he comatose?” you asked.
“No,” Yoongi shook his head, not quite liking how you were dodging his questions and looking anxiously at the wall behind him. “Y/N… is there something going on?”
“I just found out today, believe me,” you looked at him pleadingly. “If I had known earlier I would have... No, I’m probably too pathetic to even manage that—”
“Y/N what are you trying to say?” Yoongi insisted, hands reaching out to grab yours before realizing he couldn’t quite do that. You looked down and bit your lip.
“He’s me,” you whispered. Yoongi felt his breath catch in his throat. ‘The Universe can’t be this cruel,’ he thought.
“No…” he shook his head. You looked up at him with tears brimming in your eyes.
“I am Kim Taehyung’s past self.”

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, in honor of eight years of living together, I’ve jotted down some moments of support, comfort, and affection between namgi!
when they won their daesang and namjoon pulled a crying yoongi on stage into a hug
on the same note, back stage when namjoon hugged a crying yoongi and both of them expressed how much they have been relying on each other these past several years and going through some shit together
in AHL when they were doing work, namjoon decided to take the harder job of cleaning the rooms so yoongi didn’t have to do it
in the same episode, yoongi asked the staff he worked with for some food so namjoon could eat
the way yoongi was hype as hell when namjoon came out to perform Buckubucku at the 2016 SMA and afterwards told him that he looked cool
when they both performed with MFBTY and were having fun making fun of each other before the performance
when yoongi won producer of the year and you could see namjoon’s proud smile when he was giving his speech
namjoon’s rap in moving on to yoongi
spring day was written to help each other, saying that it was based on their friendship and missing friends. and the lyric “you know it all, you’re my best friend” was for my boy yoongi
when namjoon lost his wallet (not surprised) yoongi bought him another one
when yoongi bought namjoon a ring during their Dubai trip and namjoon said that he’ll wear it often and really liked the ring
when namjoon said during an american interview that yoongi is good at producing and yoongi’s shy smile
yoongi saying countless times what a great and cool leader namjoon is
namjoon constantly saying yoongi is cuteee (UWU)
during run BTS when they played the one body game and namgi got all eight correct (going to ignore the fact that namjoon’s handshake was rejected twice by the person he’s lived eight years with lmao)
during the ryan seacrest interview namjoon is constantly encouraging yoongi to talk and bringing him closer and in countless other interviews
namjoon always including and looking out for yoongi when there’s lots of people around knowing his anxiety
when namjoon gave his old chair to yoongi and he fell on his ass and they proceeded to have the cutest banter on twitter uwu #MinFallOnMyButt
when yoongi said to namjoon that he will do really well and believes in him and he’ll be great when he and the rest visited him on the set of do you
when namjoon promoted Agust D saying it was really good and he worked hard on it and that everyone should listen to it
when they sat through that bs interview with b-free/other rappers. they had each others backs with answering the stupid ass questions (still makes my blood boil)
when they tell their personal stories in their songs (i.e. born singer, cyphers, moving on, young forever, sea, ya get the gist)
countless moments before performances when namjoon would pat yoongi on the shoulder/back or give him encouraging words to ease his worries
when they crashed each others logs and annoyed the hell out of each other
when yoongi said in an interview that namjoon’s snoring wasn’t a problem for him, so he wouldn’t feel so bad (and brought up the fact they lived together the longest)
namjoon saying that he’s thankful to yoongi because he’s like a mirror and he makes him ponder about what kind of person he is and to become better.
the fact they they’ve both experienced depression and are helping each other and others by writing, producing, and making music together.
they’re both constantly trying to better themselves and strive to make the world a better place
lastly, they’ve been through so much shit (as individuals and as a group) from not being considered rappers because they were idols to the public giving them shit as well. But they persevered through it all.
now everyone should know they’ve lived together for eight whole years!!

The Language of Flowers
Tumblr media
Pairings: Jimin x Beauxbatons!Reader (friends to lovers)
Ratings: Fluff
Word Count: 9.4k
Summary:
You took the package from him, slowly peeling off the wrapping paper, and found a box with a few holes poked on the top. When you uncovered the box, there was a small flowerpot inside with a seedling. “A plant?” you looked up at him.
“It’s called a Lemonyellow Rosemallow, a hibiscus flower native to Africa,” he explained. “It’s grown in a tropical environment so it was a bit difficult to grow it here. But think of that flower as you and your adjustment there. If it’s able to grow and blossom there, then so can you.” Jimin smiled. “I’m sure you’ll able to blossom there.”
You’ve been so used to living right across Jimin’s house that you couldn’t ever imagine transferring to Beauxbatons while he was in Hogwarts. Fortunately, your time apart ends when an exchange student program between the two schools brings you two together again.
Featuring: Taehyung and Seokjin as Salamander Moms, Hoseok’s shipping habits, and Blackpink Lisa’s cameo appearance in a BTS Hogwarts fanfic
A/N: This fic turned out to be longer than I expected haha but I hope you guys enjoy this! Thank you also for liking my previous fic. If you guys have any more fic ideas or requests go ahead and send them to me I would love to write them! I’m also planning another story with TaehyungxReader but non-Hogwarts AU but I’ll probably post it here anyways. Thanks again for reading guys!
Hey Y/n!
I just saw your name on the list of exchange students coming from Beauxbatons and I ran immediately back to the dorm to write to you! Haha, you can probably see my excitement from all the messy handwriting and ink blotches. But I’m so excited you’re coming over to see Hogwarts! I’ll take you around to the Herbology greenhouse and Hogsmeade and you’ll get to see all my friends here too. I know they’re excited to meet you.
Anyway, I’ll be ending this letter here since I have to run to Potions next and you probably saw the news before I did. Make sure you get enough rest and food before your trip. Travel safely!
                                                                                                             From, Jimin
Hufflepuff 6th year, Quidditch Chaser, and                                                           #1 Awesome Best Friend and Handsome Guy
P.S. I have more Chocolate Frog cards than you do now.

The Constellation Effect | Chapter 1
Tumblr media
Pairings: Taehyung x Yoongi; Yoongi x Y/N
Ratings: slow burn, angst, soulmate au, fluff
Summary:
It's Yoongi's last year in Hogwarts, his last year to wonder about what he really wants to do after graduating. He can't think of a worst possible year to start falling for someone who isn't even able to leave the Hogwarts castle than this one.
It's Taehyung's last year before the Sickness finally causes him to slip into that dreaded coma. If only the ghost of his past self could finally pass over so Taehyung could focus on other things: becoming a Dragon Tamer, and finding out who has the same constellation tattoo he has.
It's Y/N's last year, or at least she hopes so. Or maybe she doesn't. It's kind of difficult when you're a ghost and in love with your best friend who happens to be graduating soon.
Connecting all three of them is the Constellation Effect, a universal phenomenon that marks everyone with stars and constellations on their shoulders, connecting them through past lives and dictating who belongs with whom.
Featuring: NamJin's never-empty plates of food, VHope if you look closely, and JiKook if you stay tuned to the next chapter.
Word Count: 6k words
A/N: Omg I’m so sorry this is so laaaaate. I finished the chapter a few days ago but I only got to upload it now T^T. Anyway, here’s the first chapter finally and I just really hope that college doesn’t stress me out enough to delay the next chapter. Also, I hope you guys really enjoy my first attempt at making a BTS Hogwarts soulmate AU :)
Check this out for more info about the soulmate AU
Part 1 of ?
“I can’t believe they deemed you mature enough to be Head Boy for Gryffindor,” Yoongi muttered as he watched Seokjin polish the pin on his robes for what seemed to be the fifth time that morning.
“Hey! I’m mature when I want to be,” Seokjin protested indignantly. “But, if you’re looking at the pool of seventh-year Gryffindor boys to choose from, I’d say this is pretty reasonable,” he shrugged. “Plus, it does match my overall aesthetic of—”
“Big-headedness?” Namjoon interrupted, poking his head into their train compartment. Yoongi laughed at the reaction on Seokjin’s face.
“I am this close to breaking up with you,” Seokjin scowled.
“That’s what you said last time, babe,” Namjoon grinned, kissing his boyfriend on the forehead before sliding into the seat next to him. Meanwhile, Yoongi stretched his legs out completely across the seat that was all his. He never really felt bothered by being the third wheel around Seokjin and Namjoon, or NamJin as he liked to call them to save on syllables. If they loved each other who was he to stop them from showing it?
“So, last year for you guys, huh?” Namjoon said, looking at both Yoongi and Seokjin.
“Yeah,” Yoongi nodded, looking out the window at the students in the station who were either loading their trunks, saying goodbye to their parents, boarding the train, or just doing a bunch of those things at the same time. “I can’t believe it’s been seven years already. It all feels so fast…”
“Awww, Yoongi’s getting all emotional on us already,” Seokjin sighed.
“Hyung it’s only the start of the school year and I thought I was the dramatic one,” Namjoon added, grinning cheekily at him.
“Shut up,” Yoongi scowled.
“Oh by the way hyung, did you check out that thing I sent you?” Namjoon asked.
“Yeah, I have it with me right now,” Yoongi nodded, pulling out a folded-up flyer from his jeans pocket. ‘MUSIC PRODUCERS WANTED’ was written on the top in big, bold letters. Yoongi’s eyes were especially drawn to the ‘BigHit’ logo on the very top part of the flyer. Most of the music Namjoon and Jungkook recommended him and had grown to love listening to were made by artists and producers under that entertainment company. Yoongi practically died and rose again when he pulled the flyer out of the envelope Namjoon sent him over the summer.
“What do you think?” Namjoon grinned, raising his eyebrow.
“That would be perfect for you!” Seokjin exclaimed.
“Do you really think I can make it?” Yoongi frowned. “I mean, I only started producing a year ago and—”
“You’re an absolute genius at it,” Namjoon cut him off. “Trust me Yoongi, your music sounds like you’ve been producing for years,” he grinned.
“Even I like it,” Seokjin added, nodding his head. “And I don’t even listen to your kind of music that much.”
“Thanks guys,” Yoongi quirked his lips up in a smile. “I-I think I’ll go for it then. I mean, I haven’t even done any apprenticeship or training things yet anyway.” He knew that most of his fellow seventh-years often took the opportunity during summer break do join apprenticeships or special training classes in things that they wanted to do in the future like working with the Ministry or becoming an Auror.
“Didn’t you do Ministry work with your dad?” Seokjin frowned.
“That doesn’t count,” Yoongi rolled his eyes. “I was there for a week before I finally bought some Puking Pastilles and pretended to be sick for another week.”
“A true Slytherin genius,” Seokjin clapped his hands slowly. “Wish I thought of that before being hauled off by my mother to join all her stupid business meetings.”
“You didn’t get to take up Professor McGonagall’s offer on becoming a Teaching Assistant did you?” Namjoon said sadly, placing his hand on Seokjin’s knee. Yoongi pouted sympathetically. Seokjin was one of those rare seventh-years who wanted to be a professor after graduating from Hogwarts. He often joked about gracing the History of Magic class with a more handsome face once he was qualified to be a professor. Still, he was quite the serious student and an even more serious study buddy whenever exams came up. Yoongi knew Seokjin would make an amazing professor.
“Well, there’s always this year,” Seokjin flashed his signature carefree grin and put his feet up on the seat next to Yoongi who scowled and inched himself away.
“Idiot, you’re Head Boy this year. Say goodbye to your beauty sleep,” Yoongi reminded him.
“Way to ruin the vibe,” Seokjin groaned.
“You’re supposed to be checking on the other students too before the train leaves,” Namjoon added.
“That can wait,” Seokjin waved it off and leaned his head on Namjoon’s shoulder. Yoongi chuckled at the two of them and looked down at the flyer, smoothing it over on his lap.
“You still have plenty of time to work on your track,” Namjoon pointed out. “The deadline’s still in December.”
“It’s gotta be a damn good one if I’m trying to get into BigHit,” Yoongi muttered, feeling his fingers subconsciously tapping on his knee, already trying to figure out some kind of main melody for his track.
“If it’s in December, you could come over to my house too during Christmas break if you need to use some equipment,” Namjoon volunteered. “Just tell your parents you’re staying over at Hogwarts again or something.”
“R-really?” Yoongi looked up at him with wide eyes. “That would be great!”
“Wow, you’re inviting him over for the holidays instead of your own boyfriend,” Seokjin huffed.
“What’s the use? My mom’s already sending you a personal invitation,” Namjoon grinned, pinching his boyfriend’s cheek.
“I guess she’s relieved that Namjoon has a soulmate that will really take care of him,” Yoongi chuckled.
“It’s hard not being the Mom Friend when you’re in a group that has both Namjoon and Kim Tae—”
“Mom!” Taehyung yelled, sliding the door to the train compartment open. The three of them inside jumped in surprise at his sudden appearance. Taehyung was still wearing his regular Muggle clothes: jeans, and what appeared to be either his pajama top or another one of his weird ‘fashionista’ tops. He was clutching a roll of parchment in one hand and a quill in the other.
“And another year in Hogwarts has begun,” Seokjin sighed.
“You need to help me with this essay,” Taehyung pleaded, looking at Seokjin and Namjoon.
“Come in and sit down,” Yoongi offered, moving his legs so that there was room on the seat next to him. Taehyung looked at him in surprise, as if realizing he was just there, before finally sliding into the seat next to him.
“Wait, don’t tell me this is the essay for your apprenticeship application,” Seokjin frowned. Taehyung nodded.
“Taehyung, tomorrow morning’s the deadline isn’t it?” Namjoon sighed. Yoongi found himself chuckling at the three of them. There was no way he was going to deny the fact that Taehyung was actually Namjoon and Seokjin’s child.
“What are you planning to apprentice in?” Yoongi asked, sliding closer to Taehyung.
“A Dragon Tamer’s assistant!” he exclaimed, the worried look on his face instantly melting away as he grinned. “Drake Pendleton, the most famous Dragon Tamer in Wales. He’s so good he managed to lure a Hungarian Horntail in a cage with nothing but two chickens.”
“And at this rate you won’t be able to see him if you don’t send that essay,” Seokjin warned. “How much have you written so far?”
“Two paragraphs,” Taehyung bit his lip, showing the parchment wherein two paragraphs, very short ones, were written in his signature, barely-legible handwriting. “Its hard to think of what to say and then write it down…” he mumbled.
“Well, two paragraphs is not nothing. I’m sure you can finish it within the day,” Yoongi reassured him.
“You of all people know that feeling,” Namjoon joked. Yoongi smirked in response. He was always cramming whatever he had due on the day itself. But despite how bad that sounded, it did come in handy when there was way more requirements than usual and cramming was the only thing left to do.
“Well catch you later then,” Seokjin adjusted his robes and stood up.
“Wait, where are you going?” Taehyung pouted. “You have to help me here.”
“Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll do fine,” Seokjin winked at him. “And besides, I was supposed to be in the compartment with the Prefects five minutes ago.”
“I’ll walk with you,” Namjoon volunteered, not quite to either Yoongi’s or Taehyung’s surprise. “I’ll try to help you out later, okay Taehyung?” And with one last wave from him, the two of them left the train compartment.
“Sorry again for bothering you,” Taehyung rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. “I really thought Namjoon-hyung and Seokjin-hyung would have time today to help me out. I guess I’ll go do it on my own.”
“Alright,” Yoongi shrugged, handing Taehyung’s essay back to him. Among the maknaes, Yoongi realized that Taehyung was probably the person he hung out with the least. Jungkook was his housemate and practically his little brother. Jimin was in the Dueling Club so they saw each other quite often. But Taehyung… it was pretty much evident that the boy didn’t really have a regular schedule. He pretty much did what he felt like doing at the moment, and that could be anything.
What he did know about Taehyung though, ever since he was in first year when he and the maknaes joined his circle of friends, was that he had the Sleeping Sickness. Every knew about it. After all, it wasn’t something easy to hide and Yoongi himself had witnessed Taehyung’s fainting spells time and time again. It was something everyone in their friend group was concerned about. He couldn’t possibly imagine how that would feel: to be branded and seen by everyone as someone with the Sleeping Sickness.
‘It’s going to be his last year too,’ Yoongi realized. It kind of terrified him now that Taehyung, one of his friends and people he personally knew, could just slip into that coma and probably never wake up. But judging by the way Taehyung was practically stressing his eyeballs out over his essay, it looked as if he was still quite optimistic about his future. It was Kim Taehyung after all.
“I guess I’ll get going,” Taehyung sighed and stood up by the train compartment door. “Jimin promised he would help me write this essay too.”
“Good luck,” Yoongi smiled a tight smile and waved before Taehyung finally left.
Now that he was alone in the train compartment, Yoongi found himself settling into his normal sleeping position: curled up on his side with his two hands pressed tightly in-between his thighs. His friends always told him he looked weird when he was asleep but Yoongi couldn’t help it, he liked having his hands close to him.
But even in his favorite sleeping position, Yoongi couldn’t quite stop the rush of anticipation he felt as the train grew closer and closer to Hogwarts. After a few more futile attempts, Yoongi had to give in, knowing that there was no way he was going to have his nap anytime soon when he knew he was going to see Y/n in a few hours.
Y/n, L/n. The ghost girl who haunted the Astronomy Tower of Hogwarts Castle. And most importantly, Yoongi’s best friend since he was a first year. He could still clearly remember how he came across her while figuring out a secret entrance from the Astronomy Tower to the Ravenclaw Tower without having to pass through the enchanted doorway. She liked the fact that Yoongi wasn’t scared or wary of her and he liked that she was an easy person to talk to. Eventually, it became an everyday thing for Yoongi to go and see her at least once a day, mostly at night.
‘She never gets tired of looking at the stars,’ Yoongi thought with a wistful smile on his face. And with that, he found himself finally drifting off to sleep.
“Back so soon?” Jimin looked up and frowned when he saw Taehyung enter the train compartment they shared not long after he left.
“He had to go join the Prefects now that he’s Head Boy,” Taehyung pouted and sat down on the seat right beside Hoseok, across Jimin and Jungkook.
“I’m guessing Namjoon joined him too,” Hoseok smirked.
“Those two are practically glued together,” Jungkook said.
“Speak for yourself,” Taehyung and Hoseok chorused. Jimin erupted laughing.
“Yoongi-hyung was there though…” Taehyung added softly, already feeling his face beginning to flush.
“Well you should have asked him for help!” Hoseok started, standing up on his feet. “Come on, let’s go back.”
“No, he seems busy,” Taehyung shook his head. “He looked like he had something on his mind.”
“He always does,” Jimin shrugged.
“If only Hoseok could just talk about what makes hyung tick so we can help Taehyung out here,” Jungkook glared at Hoseok. But because of his so-called ‘bunny features’, it didn’t look threatening at all.
“My lips are sealed,” Hoseok shook his head.
“I guess I’ll have to rely on you three to help me write this thing,” Taehyung waved his sheet of parchment in the air.
“How many questions have you finished?” Hoseok asked.
“…One. Now I’m on ‘What kind of previous experiences with magical creatures do you think will help you as an apprentice?’”
“That’s easy,” Jungkook shrugged and put his feet up on the seat next to Hoseok who grimaced and pushed them away. “Just talk about that time you visited the Acromantula cave for a week when one of them was injured.”
“But Acromantulas are different from dragons.”
“How about that time you hatched salamander eggs all by yourself in the Ravenclaw Common Room?” Jimin suggested. “Salamanders are kind of similar to dragons.”
“And I bet Filch has a record of that if you need anything to prove your story,” Hoseok nudged him. Taehyung grinned at the memory of him and his friends trying to hatch salamander eggs together in the Ravenclaw Common Room’s fireplace. Even Yoongi was there passing cool towels around for people to prevent them from overheating. A small fire did happen inside the room but nothing an Aguamenti charm couldn’t handle. Still, Taehyung was punished with detention for his recklessness.
“I think I’ll go with that,” Taehyung nodded, picking up his quill before starting to write about it in his essay.
“Man, being Pendleton’s apprentice is going to be amazing for you,” Jimin sighed with an excited grin on his face. “You’ll be able to go to his awesome laboratory and travel with him around the world…”
“You better get his autographs for us when you do,” Jungkook added.
“Hold on, hold on, I haven’t even sent this essay yet,” Taehyung laughed nervously in reaction to his friends’ excitement. “I mean, I don’t even know if I’m going to be able to get in…”
“I’m sure Pendleton will see that you have what it takes,” Hoseok placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. “You’re more experienced at magical creatures than anyone I know in Hogwarts, except maybe Hagrid. And even he says than you know more than the seventh-year students he has.”
“But, I have the Sickness too,” Taehyung finally blurted out. Instantly, the look of excitement on his friends’ faces disappeared, replaced by looks of sympathy. Taehyung felt regret form like a lump in his throat, his friends only wanted to be excited for him. But the fine line between supporting Taehyung’s future dreams and escaping the current reality he was in grew thinner and thinner every day. It was almost his fifteenth year.
Among all of them, it was Jungkook who broke the silence.
“Well, if Pendleton rejects your application because of your Sleeping Sickness, then he’s not as resourceful and adventurous as we thought,” he said.
“You really do know the right thing to say sometimes,” Jimin smiled proudly at him.
“It’s true though,” Hoseok shrugged. “And besides, I’m positive that you’ll be fixed up and Sleeping Sickness-free by the time the year ends,” he grinned reassuringly.
“I really do hope that some huge plot twist in my life happens before the year ends,” Taehyung shrugged one shoulder.
“Does this plot twist involve someone really short, kinda grumpy, and very good at dueling?” Hoseok raised his eyebrows. Jimin and Jungkook quickly joined in on the teasing.
“Shut up,” Taehyung groaned despite the embarrassed smile that was quickly growing on his face. “I regret my life the minute I started telling you guys about my Yoongi crush.”
“Who said we were talking about Yoongi?” Jungkook said. “I thought Hoseok was talking about Professor Flitwick.” And with that, the entire compartment dissolved into fits of laughter.
“Ugh, you guys are the worst. I’m doing my essay somewhere else,” Taehyung made a face at them and stepped out of the train compartment, still holding the piece of parchment he was writing on.
And that’s when his vision began to swim.
Taehyung gripped the door of the compartment to steady himself, blinking rapidly in order to get his bearings back again even though he knew that rarely worked. ‘No, not now! I still have to finish this essay!’ he thought frantically. But his vision only grew worse with the same black spots he’s known all his life appearing at the edges of his sight.
“Taehyung? You okay?” he heard Hoseok call out to him but his voice sounded further away than normal.
“H-hyung…” Taehyung said weakly before finally letting his legs give way, feeling a pair of hands catching him before he fell.
Yoongi found himself feeling antsy and restless throughout the entire Hogwarts opening feast. Was it just him, or were there at least a dozen more First-years in the new batch? Or maybe the Sorting Hat was taking a longer time than usual sorting the new students.
Sitting beside Namjoon and Seokjin seemed to make matters worse. Seokjin constantly refilled his plate while Namjoon practically had two bites of food for every ten minutes because he was reading another book so the sight of their full plates made it seem like time was barely passing at all. It drove Yoongi crazy. If there weren’t professors constantly keeping an eye on the Great Hall doors, Yoongi would have left in a heartbeat. Even though it was his last year of Hogwarts, and therefore his last Great Feast, Yoongi knew he wanted to spend it elsewhere.
‘She must be restless already,’ Yoongi thought, remembering that time when Y/N practically floated straight through him, probably her own way of clamoring him, the minute he stepped through the door. That was last year.
“Hey, has anyone see those three around?” Seokjin frowned, looking around the Great Hall. Yoongi joined in, glad that there was something to put his mind off the waiting. By ‘those three’, Seokjin always meant the maknaes. Just then, Yoongi spotted Hoseok – quite easily considering the fact that he always seemed to make his Hufflepuff robes seem more majestic than usual – stand up and walk over to their table.
“Finally got tired of them?” Yoongi smirked at him as he sat down.
“Aish, I’ll never get tired of my teammates,” Hoseok denied. “Well, maybe a little,” he added.
“You’re in a safe, quiet space,” Seokjin patted his back and handed him a plate of dinner rolls. “Come on, I don’t think you were able to eat properly around all that noise.”
“Thanks,” Hoseok flashed a tired smile and grabbed a few of the rolls.
“Hey, do you know where those three are? We haven’t seen them all night,” Namjoon asked, finally marking the page he was reading in his book and setting it down.
“Oh,” Hoseok’s face fell slightly and Yoongi could quickly guessed what he was going to say next. “It’s Taehyung.”
“Again?” Namjoon frowned worriedly. The joking, happy demeanor the four of them had earlier vanished. Even Seokjin stopped eating. “The last time that happened was like what, a week ago?”
“3 days,” Yoongi shook his head. “Jungkook wrote to me. Taehyung was sleeping over at his at that time.”
“Its supposed to be his final year already,” Hoseok added softly. “And he’s still signing up for Pendleton’s apprenticeship, something that he most definitely deserves to have and something he’ll undoubtedly get if it weren’t…”
“For the Sleeping Sickness,” Yoongi finished, nodding slowly.
“It just really sucks,” Hoseok shook his head.
“Well, its amazing that he’s still quite optimistic,” Namjoon smiled. “I mean, compared to other people I’ve met who have it. Taehyung really is amazing.”
‘You can think of it that way…’ Yoongi thought to himself but chose not to say it out loud anyway. Instead, he felt his hand reach instinctively to touch the tattoo on his shoulder. He couldn’t tell if it was just him, but he felt a sudden itch. Just then, a hush fell upon the Great Hall as Headmistress McGonagall approached the podium in front of the professors’ table.
“Students of Hogwarts,” she greeted. “Another Great Feast is approaching its end. For some of you, there are many, many more to come and for others, this will be one of your last few ones.”
“Why does she make it sound so ominous?” Seokjin shivered. Yoongi chuckled at him.
“Before letting you go to your dormitories,” Yoongi perked up slightly when he heard that, “I would like to make a special announcement.”
“I knew it! They’re finally adding an amphitheater!” Namjoon grinned and high-fived Yoongi.
“I guess we finally got through to McGonagall,” he cheered.
“This year,” McGonagall continued. Yoongi strained his ears to listen. “We’re going to have… a Yule Ball!”
“NO!” Yoongi and Namjoon groaned simultaneously.
“You tried,” Seokjin sighed, patting Namjoon on the back.
“The Yule Ball, often held during the now-illegal TriWizard Tournament, will happen at the end of the year and will be used as a fundraiser for a new amphitheater in school,” McGonagall finally finished. The Great Hall erupted into cheers.
“No way!” a grin broke out on Namjoon’s face again.
“Hey, won’t it be done by the end of the year? Like, when I’m about to leave?” Yoongi frowned. “Ah! Not fair!” he groaned.
“You can come back maybe?” Hoseok suggested.
“It’s not going to be the same,” Yoongi pouted.
“Information about the Yule Ball will be released later during the year,” McGonagall added. “But for now, everyone is invited to join dance lessons after school every Tuesday and Thursday.”
“Hey, let’s join that!” Seokjin elbowed Namjoon.
“Fine. But only because its your last your last year,” Namjoon smiled at his boyfriend. Yoongi wouldn’t deny that sometimes he did feel uncomfortable around Seokjin and Namjoon. Not because he felt jealous or disgusted, but because seeing their feelings for each other overwhelmed him. Their wistful smiles, the soft hand-touches, the way their heads and bodies automatically leaned towards each other when they were together, all of them echoing with ‘I love you and I’m glad I’m with you.’
It scared Yoongi.
He thought again about Y/n, his best friend, the ghost of the girl who died too quickly, never tasting the kind of love that Seokjin and Namjoon had, and ended up haunting the Astronomy Tower because of that lack.
Love was dangerous. And Yoongi didn’t know if he wanted to be a part of that.
“One hour…” Y/N whispered. You were sitting on the windowsill with your knees pulled up to your chest, watching the last thin trail of sands run down the hourglass. Gently, you picked it up and turned it over again. ‘Professor McGonagall must have some new big announcement this year,’ you wondered. The last Great Hall feast, the year when Yoongi entered to start his sixth year, just lasted for about two and a half hours. This one was already one hour over that time.
Of course, that was nothing compared to the entire summer break. Not only was she unable to see Yoongi, but write letters to him as well. Pranking Filch with Peeves and chatting with the Gray Lady occupied some of her time, but not a great big portion of it. Not enough to ignore the fact that Yoongi wasn’t there and that after this year, he won’t be coming back for a long time.
Were you in love with him? Undeniably so. And knowing that only made it passing on even harder. You felt sorry for whoever was occupying her next body but that even that couldn’t stop her feelings.
‘Maybe I’ll vanish too, after he leaves Hogwarts,’ you wondered. But based on what the other Hogwarts ghosts said, ghosts who had lived in the castle for centuries, passing on was difficult. Even more so if you’ve been around for quite some time.
Suddenly, the sound of the door opening startled you out of your thoughts. You smiled at the familiar sight: Yoongi, with his inky black hair, worn-out but expensive clothes, and, you dared to think it, that glint in his eyes whenever he saw you.
“Yoongi!”
“Sorry I’m late Y/N,” Yoongi panted. It was clear that he probably ran up the stairs to the tower. “The feast took forever.”
“You should be enjoying it,” you grinned and shrugged one shoulder. “I mean, I’m not leaving anytime soon.”
Yoongi’s reply was already on his face and Y/N quickly looked away, wishing you hadn’t brought it up too early on in your meet-up. But Yoongi didn’t say anything. Instead, he walked towards you and picked up the hourglass.
“I can’t believe you still have this,” he smiled slightly, looking down at it.
“Of course, a decent Yoongi gift is pretty rare,” you laughed.
“Hey! I only gave you a rock five times,” he protested.
“Five times out of six!”
“Fair enough,” Yoongi sighed, clearly knowing he lost. You smiled at the hourglass still in his hands. It was made of carved red oak, polished and varnished until it shone. Inside the glass were grains of sand that magically changed color whenever you turned the hourglass.
“It makes up for all of those rock gifts though,” you chuckled, putting your feet down and scooching over closer to him. “Well, almost.”
“My company itself is the gift,” Yoongi joked.
“As if!”
“I guess the normal topic of conversation right now would be ‘What did you do over the summer?’ but I doubt that’s going to be more of a one-side conversation,” Yoongi looked up at you. His bangs fell over his forehead in a wave and you resisted the urge to push them back. You could only touch objects, not people. If you tried to, all Yoongi could feel would be ice on his brow.
“You know how much I love one-side conversations,” you grinned at him instead, pulling your knees up to your chest again and resting your chin on top.
“Alright then,” Yoongi grinned, adjusting his position so he was leaning against the window frame before proceeding to talk about his summer. You always liked watching Yoongi talk for lengths at time. He rarely talked at length with people, except his friends, but when he did, it was often at length. It sometimes amazed you that he had all of those thoughts stored up inside him. No wonder his rap lyrics were often so good.
“I think you should definitely go for submitting to BigHit,” you said. “It sounds like something you want to do. And don’t you want to see how good your music is out in the Muggle world?”
“I know but…” Yoongi pouted slightly. “It means I’ll have to be gone during Christmas break to work on it. I won’t—”
“A few weeks of Christmas break is way shorter than two whole months of summer,” you waved him off. “And if you miss this kind of opportunity, I’ll haunt you every night starting at two in the morning,” you warned.
“Aish, you’re really evil,” Yoongi groaned but smiled nonetheless. “Are you sure you’ll be okay here?”
‘I’ll miss you… terribly,’ you thought but again, held it back. “As long as you give more presents,” you grinned cheekily.
“Fine, more rocks it is then,” he laughed.
“Get out of here!”
Yoongi laughed even louder at that and you couldn’t help but join in. He always made you laugh.
But all the while, you kept wondering how it was possible for your chest to hurt even if you didn’t have a body.
“Come on, its three in the morning already. Filch will give you hell for this,” Y/N urged Yoongi again, gesturing at the hourglass beside them which had completed another hour.
“Don’t lie, you sent Peeves after him again, didn’t you?” Yoongi pointed.
“How dare you accuse me of such a crime!” Y/N gasped before finally laughing and nodding. “Yeah, I did.”
“I knew it,” Yoongi smirked and leaned back against the wall as he looked at Y/N again. It was obvious that she wouldn’t change over the summer. Same hair, same height, same long, white, nightgown. Sometimes Yoongi wondered how she would change over the years as a normal Hogwarts student. Maybe she’d wear more make-up or fix her hair differently, or change up her clothing style. But then thinking about all of that made him feel undeniably sad. No, Y/N was never going to change. Only disappear, if she ever did.
“Come on,” Y/N urged him again. “You need to wake up bright and early for your first seventh-year class!”
“Fine…” Yoongi finally gave in and stood up. “But I’m telling you, I really don’t do bright and early.” Y/N smiled up at him. He couldn’t tell if it was the moonlight shining but somehow, she seemed to be glowing quite brightly. A puzzled look came up on her face and Yoongi quickly looked away when he remembered he was staring.
“I’ll see you tomorrow then,” he said, stuffing his hands into his pockets and making his way to the door.
“See you tomorrow, Yoongi,” Y/N called after him before he finally left the room. Once outside, Yoongi pulled out his wand and cast a Lumos charm before going down the winding steps of the Astronomy Tower. Once he reached the bottom landing where the upper floor hallway was, Yoongi headed off to the left, passing the Ravenclaw Tower and towards where the stairs were. Suddenly, he heard a small voice call out to him.
“Yoongi-hyung!”
“AHHH!” Yoongi dropped his wand in surprise and whirled around to find Taehyung sitting on the ground, near the entrance to the Ravenclaw Tower.
“Scared you?” Taehyung grinned cheekily, picking up Yoongi’s wand and handing it back to him.
“W-why aren’t you in bed?” Yoongi stammered.
“Why aren’t you in bed?” Taehyung returned the question.
“Answer my question first!”
“Fine, fine,” Taehyung gave in. “I was working on my essay,” he answered, pulling out a piece of parchment from his pocket.
“In the dark?”
“Glow-in-the-dark pen!” Taehyung grinned, showing off a pen, not unlike the one Namjoon used. “I bought it at Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes. The ink glows in the dark but only in the hands of its user. Under regular light, it just looks like plain ink.”
“That’s pretty nifty,” Yoongi raised his eyebrows in appreciation.
“So, why are you out at night, hyung?” Taehyung asked.
“I was just stargazing,” Yoongi lied effortlessly.
“Ooh, I never knew you liked doing that too,” Taehyung grinned. “Tell me when you go next time so we can watch together!”
“Sure,” Yoongi smiled and ruffled his hair, even though he had to reach up a bit since Taehyung was already two inches taller than him. And without even fully considering it, he said “Need any more help with your essay?”
“Um…” Taehyung looked down at his parchment. “It’s kind of late and—”
“Come on, two heads are better than one,” Yoongi shrugged and sat down on the floor where Taehyung was earlier. Reluctantly, Taehyung joined him, unfolding his essay on the floor between them.
“Hmm… it’s going to be even harder working in this lighting,” Taehyung muttered. “Hold on…” Yoongi watched silently as Taehyung took off his shoe and with a wave and a tap of his wand, transfigured it into an oil lamp. Yoongi whistled in surprise.
“Once again, your Transfiguration skills are amazing,” he praised him.
“Thanks,” Taehyung grinned. “I haven’t seen Filch around so this should be okay.”
“Yeah, I don’t think he’ll be coming anytime soon,” Yoongi chuckled. “Oh, maybe you should mention your Transfiguration skills in your essay.”
“Good idea!” Taehyung grinned, bending over as he scribbled some more stuff on the parchment. “I kind of lost time by fainting earlier but at this rate, I should be done with this by morning.”
“That’s the spirit!” Yoongi patted him on the back.
“Man, I really hope I get accepted into this apprenticeship,” Taehyung sighed. “If I see him taming a dragon in real life I’ll probably faint. But like, just because of that.” Yoongi burst out laughing which made Taehyung laugh too.
“That… that might not be such a good idea,” Yoongi said in between catching his breath from laughing too hard.
“I’m glad you laughed,” Taehyung grinned. “When I joke about it around my friends I usually just get a look of concern on their face.”
“Hmm, I wonder why?”
After an hour more of exchanging ideas, and some jokes, Taehyung finally finished his essay. Yoongi patiently waited for him to finish rewriting it on a fresh piece of parchment before leaving. Even though it was four in the morning, Yoongi didn’t feel in the least bit tired. In fact, he felt quite excited for Taehyung. ‘I don’t care if he has the Sleeping Sickness or not and ends up fainting while riding a dragon or something, I hope Taehyung gets this apprenticeship.’
“You really were a big help hyung, I owe you three pranks,” Taehyung grinned, looking up at him over his essay.
“I’ll take note of that,” Yoongi grinned.
“Have you tried signing up for apprenticeships yet?” Taehyung asked.
“Not really an apprenticeship,” Yoongi shook his head. “It’s… more of a Muggle internship.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out the folded-up flyer that was still there and handed it to Taehyung.
“Whoa, this was the one Namjoon-hyung was raving about,” he said. “Hyung, you should really join this!”
“That’s what everyone keeps telling me,” Yoongi shrugged one shoulder. “There’s a high chance that I’ll be rejected due to my inexperience but I still think that it could be worth a shot. Right now, not doing anything scares me even more.”
“Hmmm… me too,” Taehyung smiled sadly and leaned back against the wall. “It’s… it’s weird that I’m trying for this apprenticeship even though it is supposed to be my last year but I can’t help it.”
“You must really believe that your previous ghost reincarnation is going to pass on,” Yoongi remarked.
“It’s not that,” Taehyung shook his head. “I… I don’t really have a lot of hope for that. I’d rather take things into my own hands and try to make the best out of things before I, you know, slip into that coma. Of course I still hope that I wake up and all…”
“I hope that too,” Yoongi nodded. “Hoseok will cry for months and bother me if you don’t. Actually, everyone will.”
“How about you hyung?” Taehyung mock-pouted. “Aren’t you going to cry?”
“I’ll probably be busy handing everyone tissues,” Yoongi grinned cheekily and stood up. “Well, I guess my work here is done. Make sure you write the right address on the envelope.”
“Thanks again hyung!” Taehyung grinned. “See you around.”
And with that, Yoongi resumed walking back to his dormitory. Once he reached the end of the hallway, he couldn’t help but turn around to look at Taehyung sitting on the floor with his knees curled up to his chest as he wrote; the lamp in front of him cast everything in a warm light. Yoongi’s mind brought up the image of Y/N from earlier, right when he entered the Astronomy Tower, sitting with her knees curled up to her chest as well as she watched the hourglass; the moonlight from the window bathing her in cool, white light.

last sneak peek | the constellation effect
Tumblr media
Hey guys! Sorry for being inactive for so long, college life is really hitting me hard here. Anyway here's the last sneak peek of 'The Constellation Effect' before the first chapter finally comes out!
One star directly on top of his right shoulder.
One star at an angle to the left below it.
One star resting on the surface of his collarbone.
One star at the base of his neck.
One star right smack in the middle of the four others, right in the place where his collarbone connected with the rest of his shoulder.
And lines connecting all five of them.
Whenever he saw himself in the reflection of his large bathroom mirror, still slightly foggy from his bath, Yoongi would find himself running his fingers lightly over the constellation tattoo on his shoulder that had first appeared seven years ago. The constellation that marked him as destined for someone that shared the same pattern.
In other words, it was the universe’s way of writing his life out for him, and Yoongi hated that. Living seventeen years of his life with strict parents had definitely drilled some ideas in him, and living according to what he wanted instead of a pre-set plan was one thing he aspired to do once he finally graduated from Hogwarts.
“Just a few more days until school starts,” Yoongi muttered, picking up a clean, white button-down shirt and putting it on. The material was thick enough so that his tattoo wouldn’t show through. It was common practice in the wizarding world for people to hide their tattoos, Yoongi theorized that cloaks were standard clothing partly because of it. Unlike muggles who often exposed theirs and openly searched for their so-called ‘soulmates’, the magical folk believed that the magic surrounding the constellation effect would bring partners together in their own time.
So far, Yoongi had seen quite a number of couples in his year in Hogwarts get together. Namjoon and Seokjin had shared glances, discrete touches, and hesitant feelings for years before finally revealing their tattoos in their fifth year. Jimin and Jungkook had known about their tattoos for a long time but chose to go steady anyway. Yoongi was happy for them of course, but that didn’t mean he was especially looking forward to meeting his partner.
Because he had already fallen for someone who was definitely not his soulmate.

BEST FRIENDS WITH JUNGKOOK HEADCANONS
Tumblr media
- jeon jungkook is such best friend material to me like omg
- mostly because he connects so well to all of the members and that's because he grew up with them for so long and therefore kind of adapted different aspects of them
- therefore i feel like a friendship with jungkook is something that gets better over time because he'll allow your habits and ideas and thoughts stick with him for a long time
- i can imagine him being such a shy guy though in his first year but he'll be friends with pretty much anyone who tries to initiate a relationship with him (therefore you have to make the first move)
- he takes hangouts VERY SERIOUSLY -- jungkook will clear his schedule for the day and everything and be at the place an hour early. he'll even go so far as to think of conversation topics or activities
- as you two go on more hangouts he'll learn to chill out a bit more
- he's VERY shy but later on you'll see jungkook evolve into his natural memelord form
- that's when he starts elbowing you and making side-jokes throughout an entire class or quoting vines during breakfast
- and the cackle. THE CACKLE
- it makes you wonder where smol jungkook went
- when he starts pranking his hyungs and his other classmates you're relieved you're jungkook's accomplice and not his victim
- jungkook really has a way with persuading you to do the most outrageous things for him
- for example: flying around the Quidditch pit at night on Buckbeak just because
- but even though they are pretty outrageous and would no doubt get you into trouble, you have to admit he does have pretty brilliant ideas
- the two of you love inventing your own games and things can get really competitive
- once you two invented a Detention Bingo (basically one bingo tile corresponds to what might happen to you in detention) and literally took every opportunity you could to get into detention and fill up the bingo sheet
- it even got to the point where you sabotaged each other's attempts to get in detention
- seokjin and namjoon almost lost their lives trying to stop you two
- jungkook will use any and every opportunity to tease you
- when you're fighting over the last textbook he'll practically lift you up and drag you behind him to get it first
- of course he'll still share it with you after
- the two of you always ALWAYS bring snacks in class and pass them back and forth
- after your professor discovered the two of you munching on chips in the back of the classroom, you and jungkook spent the entire detention period working on a charm that causes snacks to magically appear from your coat pockets into your sleeve for easier access
- when there's a will there's a way
- jungkook would be the type to apologize first if you two get into an argument
- because your friendship means more to him than anything
- he also can't stand giving or receiving the silent treatment
- you can always trust him to be there for you whenever you have any emotional problems that you just need to cry about. most of the time he'll just treat you to junk food and listen to everything you need to say
- i feel like he'll always take your side even if he kind of knows you're wrong
- he'll always believe that you can get better and that you'll be able to fix yourself
- despite that, jungkook is very protective of you. it doesn't matter if you two are the same age or if you're older than him
- when you start dating jungkook will highkey try to intimidate your date (by rolling up his sleeves around him)
- you've probably smacked him once or twice for this but you forgive him in the end because you know that jungkook will always try to look out for you
