-Buffy doesn’t tell Giles what happened with Spike. She wants to, and she almost does, but Tara just died and she’s worried about making stuff about her and she doesn’t know how to even begin to talk about it and she’s used to shouldering the weight of the world on her shoulders and keeping it all to herself, so she doesn’t tell him. 

-Xander does, and he probably shouldn’t have because it’s not his to tell, but he assumed Giles already knew, and he doesn’t think about the words that come out of his mouth a lot

-Giles doesn’t say anything to Xander about it, and he doesn’t say anything to Buffy about it because he wants her to come to him when she’s ready

-But yeah he does absolutely fucking murder Spike. It’s cold and doesn’t feel heroic or satisfying, it’s just a job that needed to be done and one he feels incredibly guilty for not doing sooner, because he knew Spike’s nature

-When Spike doesn’t come back, nobody talks about why. A few weeks later, Buffy brings it up in a scooby meeting. She tries to make the question sound casual, like she’s not scared of him just showing up one day out of nowhere, but Giles says that he’s dead. She doesn’t ask why, or what happened, because there’s quickly an Understanding.

is spike fundamentally different in the new comics? Because that’d be a pretty weird creative choice. Like changing characters for 2019 makes sense but if they’re going to make him...not a misogynist abuser, why not just make a new character? Cause that was like, his Whole Fucking Character for most of the buffyverse, and that’s what a lot of people are gonna associate him with. 

I mean I know why they didn’t do that. Because people just looooooooooooooove Spike. They have to have Spike! But it’s not #woke for him to be a rapist anymore :(
