"School districts that don’t respect transgender and nonbinary students’ pronouns or force them to use restrooms that don’t align with their gender identity could be committing federal civil rights violations beginning this fall.
Today, the U.S. Department of Education announced the issuance of a final rule under Title IX to protect people in public schools from sex-based discrimination and harassment. The announcement marks a significant update in federal efforts to combat sex discrimination in federally funded educational institutions. During a call with reporters, Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona emphasized the administration’s dedication to ensuring that Title IX effectively serves all students by providing safe, welcoming, and rights-respecting educational environments."

So I just saw a post by a random personal blog that said “don’t follow me if we never even had a conversation before” and?????? Not to be rude but literally what the fuck??????????
I’ve had people (non-pornbots) try to strike conversation out of nowhere in my DMs recently, and now I’m wondering if they were doing that because they wanted to follow me and thought they needed to interact first. I feel compelled to say, just in case, that it’s totally okay to follow this blog (or my side blog, for that matter) even if we’ve never talked before.
Also, I’m legit confused. Is this how follow culture works right now? It was worded like it’s common sense but is that really a thing?

I've seen several sites mention this, it's real.
Do not make the MISTAKE of thinking you need to put your side forward. The Guardian is transphobic as fuck, and will twist your words. DO NOT ENGAGE.
By the way, this is in the aftermath of the Cass Report, and the goal will be to make Trans DIY something that needs to be regulated or stamped out. DO NOT ENGAGE.

How has the start of new term been treating you? Still having ChatGPT issues?
Well, that's ongoing as it moves into investigation, but now we have brand new fun and games because one of the students has - well.
One of the first year modules is an academic skills module to teach them how to write reports, reference, research, avoid plagiarism, do basic stats, etc. They were set the task of making a video log summing up all they've learned this year, which they will then present tomorrow.
NOW
We have all heard, have we not, the stories of students who forgot to remove their notes to themselves before submission? Leaving in things like "Write some bullshit here", or naming the file "I fucking hate this assignment"? Things that were supposed to be for their eyes only, and to never reach the lecturer?
One student included a photo montage in her video.
And one of the images is a head shot of her, Snapchat filter on, with the caption,
"Uni is literally fucking me in all holes"
I AM LAUGHING. I AM LAUGHING HARD. THE MODULE LECTURER, HOWEVER, IS VERY MUCH NOT LAUGHING.

I'm having feelings about a sentence I just read.
"Naming himself was too important a step for him to take first"
There's so much in it and I don't think I could explain to another human what reading about a boy who has only been alowed to make the must unimportant of choices for himself.
Who's never known his own name .
Who just read the sentence "what you name yourself you are".
And now it's all he can think about.
And knowing where all of this takes him and all of the things he does and all the people he grows up to be.
I... it just..... I'm speachless and I can't even keep reading. I just keep reading the sentence over and feeling different things each time. Thinking of a different part of the story and character each time.
"naming himself was too enormous a step to take first".
Of course it was

I just stumbled across another Darcy Has Amnesia and Has Been Living as a Lower Class X and I need to say this:
DARCY WOULD BE IDENTIFED AS RICH BEFORE HE WOKE UP!
First, clothes. In Jane Eyre, despite her tramping through a bog, they knew her clothes are upper/middle class before she woke up. If Darcy is wearing anything he's gentry or merchant class on sight.
So lets say he's naked. People today kind of just look like people, but in the past, no. Lower class men in this era especially would wear their profession on their skin. Fishermen and farm workers would be tanned like crazy, carpenters would have lost bits of finger, blacksmiths burn marks and developed muscles. Do you know that winemaking can stain your hands purple for weeks? Aside from profession, Darcy would look soft to lower class people, but at the same time well fed. The lower classes were struggling with food insecurity during this era or for all time...
And then he wakes up, now I am not sure if they trained provincial accents out of kids in this era, BUT HAVE YOU HEARD DARCY TALK? Jane Austen doesn't have many servants talk, but sound like Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy they do not! He has perfect grammar and a huge vocabulary! He will be known as a clergyman, lawyer, merchant, gentry or even an aristocrat the second he speaks.
So what then? These are poor people, they aren't dumb. They would advertise that they have found a rich injured person and hope for a reward. Darcy would be fairly well known by face and they have artists and newspapers and printing presses. He also would be known to be missing, he has a family, he writes his sister on a regular basis.
I give it a month tops before he's safely back home.
And that's not even getting into the fact that erasing a person's entire memory is basically neurologically impossible...

Random worldbuilding: A culture where everyone's social status is expressed through how their hair is braided.
Children all have the same kind of a simple, unisex "child's braid" which is meant for their parents to be easy to do - traditionally boys were only taught how to do a "wife's braid" while women braid both their husbands and their children, but a modern man is naturally an attentive father and contributes to both cleaning and feeding, and clothing and braiding his children.
While this kind of knowledge is more accessible in the modern age, the art of braiding is still seen as an intimate family thing, and it's not unusual for a youth to come out to their parents by the way of braids - for example a daughter asking her father to teach her how to do the "wife's braid", or a son asking her mother how to weave the "husband braid" for their future spouse. Or a trans kid asking their parents to give them the other gender's braid when it's time to transition from the child braid into the "unmarried youth" one.
It is nonetheless still somewhat common to see an older gay man with a "wife's braid" or two older women both wearing "husband braids", because that was the only way they were taught to braid a future partner's hair when they were young. They could learn the "appropriate" braid now, but it has become a part of the culture, an old-fashioned gay thing to do. It's pride - if you wear this braid to show that you're an adult with a spouse, why try to hide who braids your hair every morning?
The only braid that one is expected to do on themselves is the widow's braid - the only one that is also unisex, braided in reverse from the simple children's braid. Sometimes, young unmarried adults who have no interest in starting a family switch directly into wearing a widow's braid to signify that they are not looking for a partner and are independent adults on their own.
