Ever since it was confirmed that Bruno does suffer from involuntary visions, all I could think about was how defenseless that’d make him in a town full of people who hate him.

Thankfully, Pepa is absolutely terrifying 💛

silly AU idea i had, where after casita is rebuilt and every member of the family appears on the front door, the madrigal spouses also get a gift. i like to think the miracle would give Agustin stretchy bendy rubbery body/physical manipulation powers to help offset his natural accident prone-ness, and also give him the ability to hug every single Madrigal at the same time, as nature intended

Jason should’ve gotten a character arc after hoo that included him learning to let go of the gods’ expectations for him and figuring out who he wanted to be for himself

- Even after BOO he’d had a purpose. Him and Piper had spent every free hour scouring the country for Leo, but they couldn’t do that anymore. It had been months and they had to accept that he was gone

- Jason started at a prep school in Pasadena. There was no reason for that school in particular, it was just where he had ended up at. It was as good a school as any

- At first he thought it would be nice, that a prep school would surely have the same tight regimen as the Legion, but it did not. He quickly figured out the kids there could all get away with whatever they wanted

- Jason considers going back to live with Piper, but when he calls her to ask about it she not so bluntly says there’s no reason for him to. He knows she didn’t mean it in a rude way. She knew he was looking for a purpose and knew he wouldn’t find it with her

- Something tells him that he needs this. He needs to know what it’s like to not have any structure or a task ahead. Maybe somewhere at this school he could find what he wanted outside of quests and training

- He joined sport teams, but they were all far too playful for the war games he was accustomed to. He focused on his grades, but he could pass all the tests without any studying

- Jason didn’t know what to do with his life. Why did nothing interest him? Was he even a person without a battle before him?

- One night, a little girl shows up at his dorm. He’d never met her before, but he could just tell she were one of his own, a demigod

- She said she was running from a monster, alone and scared, and had sensed some sort of power coming from his dorm. Must be a big three kid thing

- Jason brought the girl to Camp Jupiter safe and unharmed, but not before she told him about a group of other kids like them that had been hiding out together. She hadn’t seen them in weeks

- He then decided he was going to find the young demigods, whether it took weeks or months. He wasn’t going to let them die alone on the streets knowing no one cared whether they lived or died

- Years pass and Jason has helped dozens of demigod kids find safety. He’s started organizing a network of older demigods throughout the country who can help kids get to their respective camp

- Sometime he wonders if this is just another task he’s thrown himself into to avoid the emptiness in his chest, but unlike his hero quests, this means something. Every time he rescues a kid, he thinks of Leo, of the horrors he faced in foster care and how this kid won’t go through that. He thinks of Piper, of how this kid won’t face the loneliness that she did. Most importantly, he thinks of his sister, and how she would have done the exact same thing. And she’s his family more than any god or Legion.

I wanted to take some time to give Mirabel her own door because I know technically the front door of Casita is her door but I mean she needs her own room right? So here’s her door! Can you catch all the family members on her door? (And yes ALL family members are on this door, even the fathers) 🥲💖💖

so, I'm gonna say this slowly-

Pepa is not abusive!

Pepa is not manipulative!

Pepa has spent the majority of her life needing to keep her emotions in check for the sake of those around her. This woman was not allowed to feel her feelings in public because of her gift. Think about it: This woman has to be happy ALL. THE. TIME. If she doesn't, people around her feel the effects of her non-positive emotions.

Imagine only being able to express yourself until you hit age five. Imagine having to learn how to manage your big emotions at such a young age. Imagine the pressure she was under at age FIVE!

And I know that if I can relate to Pepa, than there are others who do as well. Personally, I relate to Pepa because I was the oldest and I was constantly told to set an example and not show my emotions for the sake of others.

Then, as if her own personal struggle wasn't enough, she lost her brother. She lost one of the people she had spent her entire life with. She lost one of her best friends, and she couldn't grieve him, because her emotions affect everyone around her. So what did she do? She locked her emotions away behind a wall of anger and denial. She did it to protect those around her, as well as herself.

I truly believe that Pepa is one of the strongest characters in Encanto and I love her.

Luisa: *walks into Isabela’s room for their new weekly sister meeting, looking really sad*

Isabela, worried: What’s wrong, Luisa?

Luisa: *sits down on Isa’s bed next to Mirabel, who gives her a big hug, and then sighs* Some guy in town who I was helping yelled at me for doing it wrong, and when I tried to offer to fix it, he just told me to leave. *flops onto the bed, causing her sisters to lift off it for a second*

Mirabel: That sucks! I’m sorry, Luisa.

Isabela:

Luisa: Uh, Isa?

Isabela: Who was it?

Luisa: Huh?

Isabela: Who were you helping?

Luisa: Oh, uhhh. Señor Jiménez-

Isabela: *gets off the bed and heads towards her door* I’ll be right back.

Mirabel: Where are you going?

Isabela: To murder Señor Jiménez.

Luisa, getting off the bed to rush after her: Isa, no!

Mirabel, getting off the bed to rush after both of them: Isa, yes!

when i was a teenager it felt very revolutionary to be cruel to myself. like some kind of slow passive protest against how much everything hurt. i starved myself of sleep and food and tenderness because it felt right. it felt sharp and angry and radical and i wanted to be those things. adulthood is the realisation that the world is already working to cut into you well before you learn how to do it yourself. caring for yourself and others is the real protest
