Ch14
When i ate around 2:30 all the ingredients used to make my food had nutrition facts which is regulated by the FDA.I try to eat in mostly but when i eat out i mostly purchase smoothies specifically from mcdonalds. When drinking water in NYC most of the water bottles have already been recycled, but there are days they expect you to separate your trash.
Most employees I have seen do not wear uniform.before covid i remember a dress code but now i guess companies are more lenient with clothing.aOne thing they were regardless are name tags and aprons. There seems to be more employees in these franchises than i noticed before.
The travelling fees in nyc is ridiculous.the $2.75 adds up pretty quickly and i just noticed this recently.Normally i hop the train or just walked on the bus when i didn't have my school metro but now since i've graduated i feel the stress of paying new yorkers.ALong side this there are rules when taking these trains when the trains/buses rarely work. It's always delays or signal problems.Traffic driving or finding parking in New York is ridiculous as well.Today i arrived home at 8:00 but did not find a parking spot until 9:00, and the spot where i parked isn't legal spot.Sometimes i rather just walk even if it takes me forever than driving or waiting for the bus/train.
The conditions of my environment is horrible. You can tell the difference between your locations when coming out of train stations by the air quality, smell, and trash disposal.I can be on 125th and lexington and you would see it's totally different from 59th and madison. Its known NY has bad air quality ranking at number 10 but your specific location determines really how bad it is.
I would say that even though NY doesn't have places like cascades with easy access for kids to socialize,we find ways to have fun.Whether it’s throwing parties renting hotels or airbnb,we find ways of entertainment.Sometimes schools throw social events where anyone can go with a school id or sometimes people “play the block” which basically means just sitting outside in a specific area and hanging out. Most of us have at least 1 friend who drives which allows us to get around to these events but if you dont you uber or lyft.Marijuana and sex is a definite yes in some peoples social life in new york as well.
Social media is our main way of interacting with each other. If you text someone on iMessage your probably get a quicker response if it was on instagram snap or ecen facebook. This is our way of updating each other on what's going on.

Chapter 13
So for this assignment I decided to interview my grandmother. She said she came to America seeking better opportunities like everyone else. She came at the age of 19 on a work visa with her mom pregnant with my father. She was a hair stylist so she planned on coming here to work in a beauty salon. Her brothers and sisters had already come so when she arrived she moved to Brooklyn with them. There were over 10 of them in the house together. A month later she ended up giving birth to my father and decided to go back and live in the Dominican Republic. After 6 years she applied for another work visa Can came back to live in the United States with my dad.Eventually she had 2 more children, my uncle and aunt and she had been here ever since. She received her citizenship a couple of years ago and has been happy ever since.

Chapter 10
Could I live off $2 a day?I don't even think that's possible.Ispend at least $10 a day in the morning for breakfast and snack, and that doesn’t include my after school spending.
Marx

Top Left:Parallel Cousins
Middle: Me & Mom
Video: Cross Cousins
My family is really big, my mom being the only female out of her 4 brothers. My family is big but we’re really separated. We used to be tight knit but everyone started to move out of the neighborhood.I haven’t met most of my family but from what I do know I have many parallels cousins on both sides due to some of my uncles having plenty of different baby mothers.

Chapter 7 Fieldwork
So I don’t have cable but a channel I was able to access was Fox. On Fox they show news but between airing they show tv shows and movies. The movie I was watching was taken with Liam Neelson. During this movie there were about 8 commercials, most of them pertaining to women or spoken by women. These commercials consist of health medicine, birth control, etc. The male commercial consists of Prep pills. The ratio I would go from men to women would be 1:2. Some other commercials I saw were pertaining to families as a whole. I constantly saw voting commercials but only promoting men, none for women. You would expect with Biden and Harris for there to be commercials promoting both of them but I only saw ones promoting Biden. Nothing for Kamala Harris.

Chapter 6 Fieldwork
From what I know my moms side of the family had been here for as long as they’ve known tracing back to black foot Indians and cherokee Indians. And from my father's side, he has been here for about 30 years, born here returned back to domincian republic for some years then came back to the US. With integrating with american identities i believe it was easy for my parents because of the location they grew up in. My father identified as hispanic but still saw himself as black because of his environment. Growing up all my father’s friends were black and he stayed at their houses a lot so assimilating into the culture was easy for him. In East Harlem it's a lot of integration of hispanics and african americans so associations between the two were easy. Growing up we would have block parties and fish frys in East River and Metro which kept us as one.

Chapter 5 Fieldwork
Colonialism - Colonialism is when a country controls another country politically and economically for the use of their raw materials. An example,Great Britain's control over the colonies and using them to murder the indigenous people of the americas.
Microaggression - microaggressions are the smallest things but can be so impactful.they are unintentional statements of discrimination towards a certain group of people.
https://www.npr.org/2020/06/08/872371063/microaggressions-are-a-big-deal-how-to-talk-them-out-and-when-to-walk-away
Racism - Racism consists of institutional policies set in place to keep individuals different from one another.Racism in what i believe is the building blocks of our country. https://www.britannica.com/topic/racism
Jim Crow - These laws were implemented to keep whites and blacks separate, after segregation.Whites feeling that they are superior and that blacks are no equal to them.
Miscegenation - (loving v. virginia) refers to the law that prevents blacks or those of any colors from marrying whites.
Hypodescent - this is a rule to keep boundaries between races. This is used in both america and third world countries. Ex. susie phipps and homer plessy.Susie grew up thinking she was white because of her physical appearance but later on she found out she is actually colored. Also Plessy knew he was 1/8th black but looked white but when others found out he was black, they treated him differently leading to the plessy v. fergurson case.

For this week's assignment I chose my Bio 101 class.I would say the ratio of men to women is 1:3.Even though there are more women than men,I would say more women speak than men.The men tend to comment in the chat instead of speaking.Due to most cameras being off it was hard to track whos more attentive but based off what i have seen there were more women tracking the camera then men.The comments tended to be one or two word answers and questions were no longer than one sentence. Body language of those shown were slightly disconnected(slouching, hands on face leaning over), but they were still digesting the information.Only the professor kept their cameras on.Lastly our professor is male which I feel impacts the lecture sessions because since he is so straight and to the point no one tries to make immature interruptions into his lessons.

The location I chose was 125th street and lenox avenue.Harlem especially,125th is an active area(harlem's version on 42nd street). What I found out was that there is always a lot of action going on.Normally when I walk down this block I don't really notice anything besides the usual such as street vendors the normal stores and many people, but now since i’ve sat and observed I seem to see more of a lexington avenue trend coming along. 125th and Lexington Avenue is known for their crackheads and homeless people but it now seems as if they are migrating further west.I grew up going to school on 125th street so everything I would see before and after seemed normal to me but being away for this long has shown me that I wasn’t observing my locations because I felt so comfortable. This area is always active but what I haven't seen since the COVID-19 was our ventriloquist guy.He normally sits on the corner and entertains people with his muppet, but lately he's where to be found.what also has disappeared are the train dancers.I used to see a showtime show everyday but i haven't seen one in a while. In the beginning of COVID-19 stores on 125th were impacted, closed due to fears of looting(i’ve never seen 125th so empty),but now the stores are open again taking precautions but 125th is back to itself.

After doing this assignment I realized that I need to be grateful for what I have. The ability to have things I both want and need is wonderful.Sometimes I take the life I have for granted.A Lot of the things I have isn't necessary for life but because of the opportunities I have im able to be rewarded with these things. Most of the stuff I get is for me to be my own person but also keep up with the trends around me.Where im from your outfit is everything because everyone knows how to dress with or without their designer brands. It to keep up with the latest things and get money, but it's more to life than just that. This chapter definitely proved that to me, making me think before I spend that next $1000 for shoes but instead putting it into organizations to help those without the privilege I have.

Michael Kors was an award-winning designer who established his brand in 1981. These products ranged from accessories, footwear, jewelry, eyewear, and fragrances. This shoulder bag was manufactured in China. The impact it has on me is that it makes sure all my essentials are in one place, preventing me from leaving or misplacing something.I also love it because it makes sure I never overpack, carrying things I don't need. The people directly involved with manufacturing these items are those in southeast asia. They work on a daily basis like those here in the states but with longer extensive hours and less benefits.
