the sun was shining today and I feel so happy :’) I started studying early in the morning, had a team meeting at work which was very nice, rode my bike home and enjoyed breathing some fresh air. I also made vegan hot choclate to have enough energy for my afternoon studying session :’) my next exam is in 9 days and I really hope it won’t be too difficult.. this semester has gone by so fast :D

Hi, I'm about to apply for an MPhil at Oxford and I was wondering if I could ask your advice. I've heard that it's a good idea to look for a professor who has similar research interests to you and then to contact them expressing your interest and asking whether they would consider supervising the dissertation you have in mind. Did you do this? And what kind of things would you recommend mentioning? Thanks for your help :)
That’s a great idea. I’d mention where you are now, what you’re studying, and whether you’re applying for any scholarships etc. Let them know you’re familiar with their work, and ask them if they have time to skype or chat on the phone!

Do you have any plans for this second half of the year?
Well, grad school is going to take up most of it!

Hi! I had a question about graduate seminars and conferences at Oxford. Are undergraduates allowed to go to these? I mean... do attendees have to participate/ would an extra person be noticeable, or could I sit and watch from a corner? I find some of the topics they cover so interesting but I don't know whether I'd be welcome... Thanks for your help!
Conferences are fine! You just register and go. Seminars depend: it’s best to contact the tutor in charge and ask permission a good week in advance.

If you don't mind me asking, what school are you studying at in the states? And if you don't want to answer that, it's okay. But are you enjoying the states? Is it very different culturally to the UK?
Hi! I’m at Stanford. I am enjoying being in the US very much, but the sheer workload here at US grad school was such a shock to the system. I’m still trying to work through that one! I think the biggest cultural difference is how far everything is, and how you really need a car to get everywhere.
