Did you actually make the AU or is this just an idea you wanted to share?
I made this AU! It’s mine, I tell you! Mine!
But for real, the idea sprang from many different factors, and still holds a deepseated love in my heart. It gives Ruby a foil outside of her friends and established antagonists, it puts more meat on the bones of Cardin’s character, and I’m proud of what I created. A part of me wishes I had some drawing or visually artistic skills to supplement my writing (or commissioned more artwork for this baby), but I’m not that talented.
Sadly burnout and more high intensity work has caused CardinalCry to be left at the wayside quite significantly.
I *might* be making a different Cardin-centric RWBY AU, if that would interest anyone.
But that depends on interest… ;)

What about "The Colt"
Tumblr media
Jaune: Cardin? I didn't know you had a gun.
Cardin: I don't, but I'm trying to make lien by selling my cousin's gun.
Ruby: Does your cousin know you're selling their gun?
Cardin: What? You gonna squeal?
Jaune: ...So what's great about this gun?
Cardin: It's like magic, dude. You shoot something, it dies.
Jaune: ...
Ruby: ...That's all gun, Cardin.
Cardin: No, seriously! Goliath? Boom! Dead! Sandcrab? Boom! Dead! One shot, one kill.
Ruby: What kind of ammo does is use?
Cardin: I dunno. Probably whatever bullets this thing takes.
Jaune: What kind of bullets are in them?
Cardin: There aren't any.
Jaune: ...
Ruby: ...I'm out. (Walks away)

Nora's Motivation of the day
Nora: If you're having a bad day, just remember. There is someone out there pulling a door that says push. Idiots
Jaune: Ok, that's not nice at all.
Nora: Eh, I don't care.
Meanwhile
Cardin: *Pulling a door that says push* WHY WON'T THIS DAMN DOOR OPEN?!
Russel: Should we say something?
Dove: He'll figure it out.... Maybe...
Cardin: *Still pulling* FUCK!!!!

I am curious about something: since this is an AU does anything change in this universe?
Do they meet Tyrian early or the horse monster Grimm.
Does Leo get exposed much earlier?
Does the vault fight in vol 5 even happen etc
I am curious to know if the timeline is still kind of the same or very different?
So, please refer to this handy-dandy chart for most of the early changes from canon-to-AU. I haven't updated it in... forever, but hey, it's still there I guess.
As for your questions:
They bypassed Tyrian entirely, since Cardin just drove himself and Ruby all the way to Haven Academy, making it near-impossible for Tyrian to track them/keep up by conventional means, as shown in the animated series. He fights Ruby and Cinder at Haven Academy, until Qrow shows-up, at which point Professor Lionheart also attacks Tyrian, gravely injuring the assassin and forcing a retreat.
Leo is exposed earlier, and is convinced to do the right thing and come back to the good-guys' side. He is arrested for his collusion with Salem after the Battle of haven and the Vault fight, but he recovered his honour.
The Vault fight still occurs as it does in-canon, but with Cardin jumping in to save Weiss from Cinder's attack, cementing his 'reformed' status in the eyes of Team RWBY. - J

Yo what do you think of the ending of volume 9
I thought it was pretty good!
Didn't like Jaune turning back into his gooey, lame teenage boy form- kinda takes away some of his special-ness and evolution from his time spent in the Ever After. I don't like Jaune normally, but CRWBY hitting the big 'reset button' on his character design was a misstep, in my opinion. Plus, I kinda doubt all of his gathered skills and talents from his 20 years in the Ever After will carry-over into future seasons? IDK, we'll see.
I *love* Ruby's character development in this season, A+ writing there. Very impactful, seeing her get her mojo back and overcome the pressures of her responsibilities to reaffirm herself was very nice.
Blake and Yang were okay- I liked seeing Blake become more excitable and enthusiastic, and just generally happier, in Yang's company.
Weiss was something of a comic relief character this season, which is fine. Kinda wish they did a little more with her, to be honest. Her 'thirst' for grown-up Jaune is something the cringe fanfiction writers will never let us forget, I'm sorry to say. I am *buzzing* for some Vacuo action. I hope that teams CRDL and CVFY show up again, and we get to see some character growth from those camps- maybe Cardin became the leader of the Huntsmen remaining in Vale after the events of V3, and became some kind of grizzled badass whilst the main cast were off chasing the Relics? A boy can dream. And visually speaking, I hope Vacuo leans more into the '101 Arabian Nights' theme in this upcoming season.
Honestly though, I loved V9. CRWBY is improving on itself, its writing and its techniques from season to season, and I certainly thought they really hammered-down on their ability to write emotive, complex storytelling this season.
9/10

Hey ciel, how did you and Russel become a couple?
I didn’t think you would have the considering there is a war going on.
"She was attracted to my massive di-!"
"Absolutely not. As for your question, we are not dating. Nor are we a couple. To think a high-ranking Atlesian operative like myself would pair with such a smelly and uncouth excuse of a Huntsman is laughable."
"That's not what your diary says."
"I don't have a diary, Thrush."
"Well, if you were an actual Human instead of some timekeeping robot, and if you had a diary, you would write dreamily about my eyes, my smile, my amazing mohawk-"
"No."

Okay, but just the contrast in writing/performance between Jaune and Ruby in their different breakdowns.
Tumblr media
Miles is giving Jaune this very up-front, very overt, very traditionally dramatic ‘man losing his mind out of isolation and guilt’ performance. He shouts, he screams, he makes big, attention-getting monologues and outbursts where he lays out all his pains and torments for the audience to hear. Again, all in what we’d call a very ‘traditionally’ dramatic fashion.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Lindsay is giving Ruby this very restrained, grounded, visceral, far more raw and ugly performance. Ruby is generally quiet and restrained until something sets her off. She doesn’t shout or scream but instead lashes out with things she’s been holding in all this time seemingly at random. She’s not ‘explaining’ what or how her problems are, she’s just VENTING. Because that’s all she CAN do right now.
And it all works brilliantly with both the characters AND what the scene needs to accomplish.
I think from a character perspective, Jaune is making these big, overt dramatic breakdowns in a subconscious attempt to GET attention, as an unconscious cry for help. Specifically, because Jaune is deep down DESPERATE for absolution. He’s become so consumed by guilt over what he did to Penny that it’s now taken over everything he does, and deep down he’s desperate for someone or something to absolve him of that guilt.
But whereas Jaune is dealing with something recent, relatively speaking, what we’re seeing with Ruby is simply the result of coping mechanism she’s been using to compartmentalize, manage and repress her trauma likely her entire life, which has LONG since been pushed past it’s limits, FINALLY breaking down. What we’re seeing start to come out is likely a LIFETIME of repressed pain and trauma. Which ironically she CAN’T let out nearly as obviously as Jaune is doing because she’s still trying to keep it in. Because she doesn’t know HOW to be open with her pain.
And putting Jaune opposite Ruby in this episode only serves to exacerbate Ruby’s problems. Because Jaune’s far more overt and obvious breakdowns just end up drawing the attention of Weiss, Blake, Yang and even the audience AWAY from Ruby’s already subtle and restrained breakdown.
Tumblr media
Until it’s too late and Ruby simply checks out entirely.

I am finally back on-board with RWBY after Ruby and Jaune's outbursts. I've always been kinda 'meh' on the show, jumping in-and-out every so often to see how the plot is moving forward, but never really COMMITTING, y'know?
But them being honest and blunt and rude and irrational and selfish? Them acknowledging that this isn't the kind of thing you can just hug-and-make-up 'over? That's exactly the kind of character development I want. This kind of content is exactly what separates a show like RWBY from other animation projects or conventional Eastern animes. The ability to focus and double-down on character drama and interpersonal problems. The ability to evolve beyond the initial concept and characterization, and to explore more complex and nuanced storytelling. Bravo, RoosterTeeth. Bravo, CRWBY.
Honestly, I'm so happy for Ruby as a character. You go girl, you tell 'em.

When the only way to make a character interesting is to stick him in an Easy-Bake Oven for twenty years and give him a helmet, you’ve lost me.
And for those of you now buying into ‘DILF Jaune’ … please don’t. You’re giving the cringe teenage boy NSFW writers more ammunition.
Rwby Season 9 Episode 5 Spoilers
People are crushed with jaunes new dilemma I personally love it. I still dunno how they'll deal with it after they leave magic land. But people are basically crushed that their ships are basically dead in the water....now hear me out.... Jaune X Winter, willow, raven, elm, Harriet, and Cinder if you want to be just plain sick. Jaune has reached official DILF status.
