The pigeon grinned a beak full of dog’s teeth. “Ha. They say there aren’t. They even kept most of them out for a while.”

“How did you make it?”

“By being smart. By hiding.”

She gave the one-legged, feral feathered thing a sideways look. “As a pigeon?”

“Sometimes,” said the pigeon. “Sometimes I’m graffiti on a wall. Sometimes I’m a coin dropped in a beggar’s hand. I am neon at night, the rain in the light. I am the song the busker sings. I listen to the prayers of those who come to the city with big dreams.”

“And in return?”

It grinned again. Steam rolled off its feathers, smelling of cigarettes. “I eat their despair.”

“That’s cruel.”

It moved its wings in something like a shrug. “That’s the big city for you.”

FIGHTING tooth and nail with the S3 finale. the good thing about being finished this far in advance is I have plenty of time to improve details and revise this episode as much as I need to, but equally I am on the FOURTH version of this episode and it still does not feel like it is landing right. it'll come to me eventually, but it's extremely disatisfying that I'm like 'oh it's SO CLOSE to being right' but whatever is wrong with it involves tearing the whole thing apart and rebuilding it from the ground up, every time.

it's a problem with its construction, i think? i can't settle on what parts we see and which we hear about afterwards. all this determines how i ground the events emotionally, and right now i can't get it to sit right at all.

i'll get there eventually.

It's actually an innate fact of their very being that they are all born evil because of their evil god/ they're all demons from a metaphysically evil world/ they don't have souls so they aren't full people!" It does not, in fact, make that not racist.

genuinely think im gonna start doing audio drama sunday here again as a new years resolution. ive been soooooo lacking in fiction for the last while because my brain has been such a disaster zone that can process like none storytelling but i miss it so much!

Audio Drama Sunday - Sunday 31st December ✨

The last Audio Drama Sunday of 2023! What a fantastic year of audio drama and a huge thanks to the people who have kept me entertained all year! 🥳 Here’s what I listened to this week! 

🤠 Forever screaming crying and throwing up at the @caravanradio season finale. YES let Samir vent the frustration of their relationship but also YES let’s hear Carlisle defending Cammy who’s done nothing wrong here!! Honestly, I would find being friends with Samir way too stressful - the way he just opens that damn book…. sir, please! This is the last time I’m going to mention it but… Caravan S2 in 2024? Yes? 😇

🤴 InCo by @itmeblog Continuing S3 and, oh, I just feel so bad for Hatov ☹️ a huge case of ‘families, who’d have them??’. 

🏢 @somewhereohio (S2E4) oh!! my god!! So that's what Orange is out here to do!! I love it when shows use techniques that work best in an audio drama medium like Orange’s little trick! 

🍾 I started listening to @ameliapodcast this week and it’s so much fun! I loved Alan Burgon in Re:Dracula and he also does an amazing job in this. The faked deaths are the perfect amount of silly and the perfect amount of ‘huh, could that actually work?!’. Really glad I started listening!!
