The fact I’m hearing about OFMD fans in particular trying to cook up the idea that anyone hunger striking for Palestine is suffering from some kind of disordered eating is really insulting and screams thinly veiled racism, as someone who’s struggled with disordered eating in the past.
The main difference between disordered eating and hunger strikes is hunger strikes are often done safely and with the consultation of a doctor. From what I’m seeing, people who’re going on hunger strikes have a date set as to when their strike will end, it’s not done indefinitely. It’s planned out, it’s safe, and they’re clear goals in mind. I don’t see y’all kicking up this much of a fuss when white gym bros or athletes go on extreme diets in order to achieve their ideal body type, so what exactly is the issue here?
