OH! I didn’t see this post but yes!

I think it applies to all of my muses -- who interestingly enough, have all had to deal with some situation involving leaving loved ones behind, although each of them were under different circumstances. 

Theseus wasn’t necessarily head over heels crazy in love for Ariadne, but he did see a potential future for them, a chance to grow old and be happy together. At first he was absolutely leading her own (because he’s kind of scummy like that) but over the time he spent in Crete, and having to place blind faith in the brilliance of her mind, her creativity, and trust that she wouldn’t lead him astray, his feelings morphed for her when they made it out of the labyrinth. She was someone who he wouldn’t have minded standing by. Laying with her on the beach, he allowed himself to envision it, to believe in it for a moment. Then morning came. He knows he did her a great injustice and so part of him will always carry that torch for her, out of respect. 

Especially considering she was also in a sense, his first love. It was a very green sort of love, with like the teenage innocence of rose tinted glasses. Since I imagine he couldn’t have been more than 18-19 at the oldest when he fought the minotaur considering it was supposed to be like boys & girls or young men & women, with the emphasis on their youthfulness. (Which if you study Greek mythology and have more detailed sources and I’m wrong on this feel free to correct me-- I focused less on Greece and more on Rome personally) He hadn’t really solidified into the asshole that he is, even though he definitely showed a penchant for it in his six labors. 

But yeah its about Ariadne.

Tell me your headcanons about Theseus and Artemis, I must know.

lol okay! So these are just off the top of my head since I haven’t really gotten to explore how they play out and such waves hands.

- Despite all of his pride, Theseus has always been extremely deferential to the gods. He holds them in the utmost regard, and typically does his best to fulfill any command they give him. In life, he had been helped by many different gods, such as Athena, Apollo and Aphrodite, but in my canon Artemis was the first god to ever assist Theseus. 

- Long before he was ever king, even before he’d completed his six labors Artemis guided his footsteps, and he excelled at combat and the hunt because of her. It showed in his labors, the tracking necessary to find great beasts and men. It showed when he excelled at all manner of weapon. 

- He always held a particular fondness for her because of this, and so he raised his son (ACE KING HIPPOLYTUS) on stories of her, and his son became one of her most devout followers, enough to scorn Aphrodite. I also subscribe to the version of the myth where Artemis is the one who tells Theseus of Phaedra’s deceit and swears revenge for Hippolytus’s death as canon to this blog’s Theseus.

- also this is definitely subjective but Theseus ABSOLUTELY used artemis in like. 75% of our fights during my runs of Hades (This is also bc i dont take many artemis boons BUT whatever) It made an impact and so I’m deciding to incorporate this into my lore. 

- I have many more thoughts about Theseus’s relationship with various gods but its kind of messy and not all organized brain mush
