Gorillaz

Their first album was the first CD I bought with my own money. I don’t think I ever seen a band quite like them. Not only is the prospect of being completely animated SO COOL but I love the variety of genres they cover. Throw in stars guest starring from all over and you really can’t beat it. No matter who you are or what you like, I’m sure you will enjoy at least ONE SONG.

Yes. Yes. I know. This is so unique. No one EVER puts this on their favorite movies list.

All jokes aside, There is a reason why it’s so beloved. It’s not just hype. I think this is the movie that made every goth…goth. Every Halloween lover a weirdo. I’m not talking smack either. I know what I am. I’m not ashamed. I have a hot topic aisles worth of memorabilia and have given up hundreds of hours of my life to rewatching this one film. Even all these years later, it’s still milking cash out of me. What a legend. What an icon.

Hey Arnold!

Man. This show. A kid in the 90’s living strange and wacky adventures while meeting a fair amount of interesting folks around him. Stoop kid. Pigeon man. That pain in the ass cheap bastard down the hall. Just to name a few.

Seems like a regular show, right? Wrong. We learn about love, loss, depression, anger issues, obsession and SO much more. War. Being poor and class struggles. Trauma. You know. For kids!

This show had heart. It felt like a city. It didn’t shy away from serious issues. Everyone (almost) felt human and likable.

Ya’ll. Watch it. I promise. It aged so well.

I came waaay late to this party but dammit, it’s better late than never. This show is awesome. The writing is sharp and hilarious. The animation is awesome. The storytelling is top notch. The villains it gave us…omg. BILL CIPHER is my FAVORITE villain in all of animation. It’s nuts. I can honestly say, this show is one of a kind.

Psychonauts

This game is unlike anything I have ever seen. It’s fun. It’s weird. Comedic. Full of heart and soul. Gorgeous and interesting level designs. Lovable characters. It certainly has a style of its own.

All of that is great and all but its ability to tackle serious issues with such grace is phenomenal. Depression. Self doubt. Misery. Panic attacks? Loss and love? Check. Check. CHECK. All checks!

Doesn’t hurt that Richard Horvitz (Zim) plays the main character either.

Garfield

Hands down my favorite comic. Whenever we got the newspaper as a kid, we fought over the funnies (us 5 sisters). You had your regular series. But as a cat lover, Garfield was my favorite. It’s not just his species that made me love him. His adventures. His sarcasm. His frustrations. We all know that one pain in the ass we all want to throw in a box and ship away. Love the cartoon too!

Mega Man Zero

I always loved the Megaman series. The x series holds a special place in my heart (for better or worse in some of the later ones).

Then my boy, Zero, got his own spinoff series on the Gameboy Advance. That changed everything. The story was so good. The character designs were SUPERB (that art direction). Killer music. Addictive gameplay. And at the helm… Zero.

Very few characters captivated me like he did. His tragic story. His design. His personality. His ability to just TEAR THROUGH hoards of enemies with his sword. He’s actually the reason I chose the name “Zero” for my nickname and artist tag.

Angry Beavers

Before Richard was Zim, he was Dagget. And dammit, it was an incredible ride. This show was WEIRD. But in a good way. My favorite episodes? Up all night. The Halloween episode. Beaver fever. One thing in particular that always stood out to me was the way the characters spoke. They would put emphasis on the strangest parts of a word but it totally works.

Mob Psycho

I’m a little bit of anime junkie. Have watched quite a bit of it. I have a loooong list of favorites. But-! There can only be 1 on the very top of the list. Here it is.

It’s got everything I need. Little Mob is one of the sweetest characters ever. Reigan is the funniest thing to grace my TV. The animation has its moments where it IS INCREDIBLE. Comedy? Check. Drama? Check. Feels? BIG OL’ Check.

Created by the same guy who made One Punch Man. It didn’t quite blow up the same way One’s (the creator) other title did but I promise you. You will LOVE this show.

Animal crossing

I started with the very first game on the GameCube. DONT get me wrong, it’s not the most exciting game to watch someone play. But playing it yourself? Magic. Build a thing. Catch a bug. Fish. Be in deep financial dept that you have to pay off by working your fingers to the bone. Buy fake art from a POS. Collect seashells. Buy a nice dress. Man… those were simpler times.

Bojack Horseman

In my opinion, this is the greatest adult cartoon ever. Its ability to blend the nonsensical hilarity with the most emotionally devastating storylines so seamlessly is downright magical. It tackles mental illness and depression in a way that I can hardly explain. As someone suffering with some mental…stuff, this cartoon hit like a truck. Yes, it was draining to watch sometimes. But in a good way. It felt…human. It was the human experience. This is not a good description. Just watch it. Please.
