I’ve been learning Flutter (for mobile app development) this weekend and so far so good! It’s a really nice language! It feels like the child of React and (good) CSS.

Would anyone be interested in an online bookclub where we read YA/NA books with characters studying/working-in STEM?
Think: Slay, My Mechanical Romance, When Dimple Met Rishi, Sourdough, etc
Maybe over discord? I think it could be neat 👉👈

Comparing the rotations of objects in the Solar System. Just look at them lol.✨🪐
To everyone that's confused, the planet Venus rotates very very slowly, with a single revolution taking about 243 Earth days, and Mercury rotates slowly, but not as slow as Venus.

Tomorrow I’m participating in the NASA SpaceApps Challenge with my brother. It’s a hackathon where you have two days to create something using NASA or associated space companies data.
We’re going to make a site that uses Mars data and music (that he’s going to compose). I’ll be programming the site using React, which I haven’t touched for ~2 years. Hopefully we’re able to make something cool.
Edit: if you’d like to participate, it’s a virtual hackathon open to everyone, here’s the link: https://www.spaceappschallenge.org

My literature review is 1700 words over the word limit. It’s no longer a matter of condensing but rather deleting. But I need it all hahahelp

We’re halfway through semester and I’ve encountered an odd obstacle in my Mars related research: NASA keeps learning new stuff!! And like, not publishing it officially yet. I’m so excited about everything Perseverance is learning - but also my lit review is due next week and I can’t keep up. I’m already going down research rabbit holes to the 1980s

It’s the end of Week 4. I feel on par and also behind at the same time. I’ve had a lot (of good things!) going on outside of uni and it’s taking time away from my studies. I’ve got a literature review due in 5 weeks that I’ve really got to start properly writing. I’m doing okay on papers there thus far at least. It’s my actual thesis project that I’m worried about. Anyone else get worried that they’ll disappoint their supervisor? I’ve got an amazing team who are all so knowledgeable in an area that I am not.
All well, just gonna keep trying my best.

I need to document how excited I am to begin honours!! It’s the end of week one but I haven’t had time to do work this week between my birthday and bachelors graduation (I now physically have a degree!). The research project I’ll be working on across the next year is a perfect combination of my interests: machine learning with images and planetary geology. Gosh, I’m so hyped.
It’s taken the perfect combination of units I studied, my grades, and networking to get me to this point and I have really felt God guiding me towards this. Now I’m praying it all goes well and I grow in my skills as a researcher. And then, by the end of this, I figure out which direction I want to take my career (industry vs research).

My absolute favourite genre of science pictures is scientists posing with massive grins and a double thumbs up next to some abyss-dwelling elder monstrosity that the sea itself spat back up onto the beach

i’m not a super feminine person, but im wearing a hot pink dress to my computer science degree graduation this week, and i am very excited to.
fuck hiding your femininity in stem. your sharp eyeliner is a taste of how steady your hands are in lab. your fire outfit demonstrates your attention to detail. normalize being hot and smart

learning about rocks changes your life because there's no such thing as an ordinary rock. they're all interesting. they all have a history. you can pick one off the ground for free, and it's cool and full of facts and qualities and geologic time.
i want to travel across the country to find rocks on the ground. The whole world is like a video game map full of shiny cool unique items. endless dopamine. love in my heart overflowing. ROCKS

hey! i wanted to know more about cs or it major.
how much mathematics is required for it? basically how much of what is taught in the entire course? i am trying to figure if i should go for it or not. thanks in advance!
hello! okay, so it’s going to vary a lot between university and country, but I’ll tell you what it was like for me...
some background: my university is in australia, i take four units in a semester, and my degree is 3 years full time.
every semester I had at least one (if not 2-3) programming-centred unit(s). in order I learnt: python (my fav), sql, C#, C, Java, JavaScript, etc. another notable mention is MATLAB.
there wasn’t a lot of maths in my degree, but it wasn’t absent either. my university focuses a lot more on the practical side of computer science - as in programming - rather than the theoretical (math) side. that being said, i actually loved the theoretical math stuff I did as it was very logic based and different to anything i ever did in school (I did not take the highest math available in school). i’d really recommend not being afraid of studying CS because of the possibility of math because in university they often teach things right from the basics, and offer lots of additional support options to help if you’re struggling.
some of my favourite things i learnt studying CS was python, basic react web app creation, a lil data science, discrete structures (fun math), beginner robotics and machine learning! this list is quite broad which means ive been able to explore the plethora of compsci related avenues available to me to decide where to go next.
hope this helped!
