even now as he turned away to pace, his feet seemed to hardly touch the marbled floors beneath. he’d known of the END to come since he was born; maybe that made it easier for him to deal with. or maybe he had been hiding away how he felt about the matter, as he did with so many other things. such was the duty of a ROYAL, and a starborn at that.

it hardly mattered. . . fate was fate, and there was nothing he could do against it.

despite his temperance, his apparent immunity to the fact of his destiny, his eyes drifted upward, glittering with unshed TEARS. fists balled tightly at his side, all he wanted to say stuck in his throat, STRANGLED in the pain in his chest. ❝  you’re really not making this any easier on me,  ❞ he managed to get out, his voice strained with the single thread of control he was clinging to.

MINT.     oh spry little dryad, spinning sprite, you drift through life as light as lion down. you are the chimes of churchbells and the laughter of faeries. gossamer and spidersilk shine from your ribs. life is fleeting, you more than anyone should know that. something we love today may never see tomorrow's sun. you pride yourself on skipping through moments, soft and merry. but you do not let your soul be tethered. is it for freedom or fear, sweetheart, that you do not let yourself be tamed? you are as fresh as and wild as bluebirds in snow, you smile at your problems before dashing away. hoping they will never catch up to you. but even nike can't run forever. you have been hurt before. but that is life. you wish to never feel that way again, but regretfully I must tell you that is nothing short of impossible. life is but part sorrow part sun, you cannot have teacups until they are burned by the kiln. oh I see the scars child, they shimmer down your chest, I see the pain in your eyes. but I also see the stardust. keep smiling, but allow tears also. you do not have to be solely wonder, fear, you are allowed to be bitter. so bite, and scream, and laugh, and love. that is what makes life worth living.

            ❝  VICTOR!  ❞ he had long since decided that the battlefield was no place for the likes of vic. eve was born in open confrontation, he grew up in warfare, and despite his station he was well suited to switching between prince and warrior with grace. had he his way, vic would stay well away from the front lines and assigned to tasks better suited to him. or rather, better suited to where EVE wanted him to remain.

            within the shadows off to the side, well away from the immediate threats, that’s where he wished victor to remain. not in the middle of open conflict, where he would do something so foolish as to stand between evelorne and a damnable SUNDOG’S blade.

            luckily victor was fast, skilled, able to parry the incoming attack so that it missed its mark and just barely drew blood upon him. before his late father’s mindless servant could regain any footing from his failed attack, eve took the brief distraction to step around victor and throw his hand forward, a wall of FROST springing from his fingertips and racing across the field and catching dozens of the enemy within.

            in the same motion he turned and grabbed the front of vic’s shirt, dragging him forward. the crystalline cold that still coated his hand crept just so up vic’s collar beneath his grasp. ❝  i told you to to stay out of sight!  ❞
