Okay so I know we’ve all arrived at the completely accurate interpretation that Garak took down Dukat’s dad in a honeypot and, yes, correct, however, I submit, that this is funnier the most recent this event was. Like as of the pilot, it’s only been like two years or something. Garak was already 45 o whatever

My impression of the voyager writers in particular is that they never thought out the repercussions of their choices...
fascinating how they still have prison labour in star trek. In the federation. hmmm. (thats what Tom Paris was up to before they recruited him for voyager)

Crack fic idea of the day: Garak and Dr. Jeff Parmak have been hate fucking, but Garak spins it in his letters to Julian as if they're in love. Julian runs to Cardassia seething with jealousy only to find Garak is like "oh finally! Now I can stop fucking Jeff!"
Canonical facts about Doctor Parmak:
- he has the title of doctor
- his surname is Parmak
- Garak got him to confess after staring at him for four hours
- after his confession he just kept saying ‘his eyes, his eyes’.
- his pronouns are he/him
This is all we know, and it’s from a conversation between Garak and Tain during the opening credits of The Die is Cast (S3E21), so it’s up to the viewer to decide how reliable the information is.
Things that are beta canon or popular fanon are:
- his first name is Kelas
- he is a medical doctor
- he and Garak were lovers or had some kind of attraction
- he has white hair
- he wears glasses
- he suffered in ways other than the interrogation, for example in prison or an internment camp
- he has physical and mental damage from this
- he’s generally a ‘good’ person, the opposite of Garak; he’ll usually have Federationesque values of freedom and democracy, and very often be some sort of dissident, or at least sympathetic to their cause
I’m not criticising anyone’s portrayal of Parmak, of course. That would be very silly to assume. I love all of the Parmaks I’ve ever read and I’ve written him with a lot of these traits as well. He’s really useful as a sort of foil or friend for Garak or for Julian in post-canon Cardassia fic. But my point is, we could be even more creative with our Parmaks.
He could be Doctor Jeff Parmak, rocket scientist, and maybe he got into trouble with the Obsidian Order because he was selling Cardassian military secrets to the Ferengi. Or maybe he was Dukat’s best friend and that’s part of the reason Dukat hates Garak so much. Maybe he is/was a well-regarded botanist and Keiko’s aware of him and talks about him during her plant friends talk with Garak and Garak’s like, oh, yes, I’m vaguely aware of him, ahem.

If you pay close attention to everything Garak says in The Wire you see that he's actually trying to be open with Bashir in the only way he knows how. Cardassians lie and obfuscate in basically everything, it's just their way. There's no objective reality- there's just a series of lies used to communicate the truth in some way.
Garak tells Bashir all these little stories, and keeps changing them with every telling. But the truth that he's actually trying to share is in the parts that don't change. There's three things that are consistent across all the stories:
1) He did something wrong and was exiled for it
2) He always mentions Elim (who we later learn is himself)
3) He always mentions Tain (who later learn is his father)
So what he's actually saying is "I did something wrong and my dad disowned me and sent me away, and I'm so traumatized and depressed by it that I'm literally on drugs 24/7". He doesn't admit which, if any, of the stories about what he did are the truth, because that's not the point of what he's really trying to say.
Which is incredibly vulnerable for him and shows how much he has come to trust Bashir and finds some comfort in him (which is very gay of him).
"They're all true"
"Even the lies?"
"Especially the lies"

Tfw you're going to publish a chapter and you realize you accidentally had Garak say something too Julian in vibes and the whole chapter gets derailed by Garak being Garak

Can we discuss that Neelix ABANDONED Niaomi Wildman, because she was 12 and didn't need bedtime stories anymore, but literally at the beginning of the same episode she needed help with her homework. Like she doesn't need adults to take care of her and guide her anymore because she doesn't literally need diaper changes anymore, so he replaces her with a new kid because kids are inherently replaceable (at least according to Neelix).
Anon I would love to discuss this with you, but I'm not convinced I've seen this episode... Because I can never get through voyager... Because I hate Neelix and his whole vibe

Forget the HD remaster, I would like someone to edit voyager so scenes with Neelix have been removed unless they are absolutely essential to the episode
I always am like okay I should get back to watching voyager, and then everytime I hate Neelix so much that I quit

I usually hate referencing things directly, but I wanted to do a speedpainting with my brace (WHICH WORKS WONDERFULLY BTW) so I chose this screenshot of Quark being super brave in Profit and Loss.
I love Cardassian profiles (namely their noses) so I wanted to actually learn that instead of faking it like I usually do. And I haven’t drawn Quark in awhile which is NO GOOD. It took about 45 minutes and I only used one layer.

for the ask meme:
disposable sex objects
Okay so this one is set right after Our Man Bashir, and it’s either shameless smut in a holosuite or a critical deconstruction of Julian’s penchant for hyper-masculine power fantasies. Note, however, that this deconstruction is mostly coming from Garak, whose interpretations are a mix of genuinely-but-uncomfortably insightful and sheer bad faith sophistry. (Obviously the best time to offer your unflattering and unsolicited analysis of someone’s character is while they’re fucking you on a holographic vintage table.)
That’s what I’m aiming for, anyway, though my ability to pull it off the way I want to may be in question. (That’s probably why it’s currently stalled.) It’s also somewhat darker than my usual take on their relationship.
Selection:
Without his brain even processing what had happened, he was on the floor with the wind knocked out of him, a hand at his throat and a knee on his chest.
“You see, my dear, I don’t need to fuck you to feel powerful.”
For a moment - the merest fraction of a second - a spark went out behind Garak’s eyes and his fingers tightened - ever so slightly - around Julian’s throat. Julian knew with dreadful and complete certainty that even if Garak did care for him, even if Garak loved him, he could still snap Julian’s neck without warning or hesitation if he thought the circumstances warranted it. (No ego. No conscience. No remorse.)
Then warmth and humor returned to Garak’s eyes, and he shifted his hand to a caress. “Though if that’s what you want, I’d be happy to oblige you.”
Julian managed a smile. “Maybe next time.”
Whatever game they were playing, Garak wasn’t going to tell him the rules, and yet he knew, with absolute gut-twisting certainty, that if he didn’t find a way to change them, they were both going to lose.
