Project for the week 10/23-25 “drama’s for dumb people”
I want you to think of a time that you were done wrong, slighted in some way. Be as candid or private as you feel comfortable with sharing. It could be a time you were cut off by someone on the road, it could be the way a sibling teases you. It can be anything you want.
I want you to then think about what a wonderful revenge could be. For the person that cut you off, do you wish that they’d get pulled over & given a ticket, or something worse.
We want to distance ourselves from the specifics, & instead think about the abstract wish of what revenge might be. Make a drawing based on that idea. Find source images to construct & crate the image from. Think about the story that it creates. How can you make the story talk without your explanation of it?
I also want you to include the text “Drama is for dumb people” in the image.
Think about the arrangement of elements on the page. Think about the different opportunities with different materials that we’ve used so far.
Any media on Bristol.

Project 2 Cross Hatch Pastiche image
Pen on Bristol. 1″ border
Find an image of a figure (photographic) and an object of your choosing. Make sure that there is a good range of values across both images. Find images that have opportunities for detail. Find an object that is dimensional an not flat (no phones, walls, etc.)
Draw both the figure and the object in one picture. Try to create an interesting interaction between the two. Think about the narrative that is created when both images are placed together. Play around with scale of the objects. Play around with composition. Don’t just place it right in the middle of the page, think of how you can make a more interesting drawing by changing the placement of objects on the page. Use the rule of thirds.
Draw the entire image using ink pens and cross hatching. You can create a 1″ border all the way around your 14x17″ bristol. When you use cross hatching, you have to commit to using it over the entirety of the drawing. Get the full range of values. Build up the different values by changing the amount of black lines to white paper. Remember you can make it darker, but you can’t make it lighter.
Activate the negative space by filling it in with some kind of information, DO NOT LEAVE IT BLANK.

Project 1 Hair Only
Graphite Pencil on Bristol.
Working from a source image, draw the hair in as much detail as possible. Don’t include anything else. Start with blocking in the values and get to a point where you are thinking about adding value through linear elements that cross from value to value. Think about the directionality of how you put down the material.
