Well folks, it definitely feels like I only have two weeks of classes left…
My paper on black women in aviation is looking like it’s going to get to 30 pages (the requirement was 15), I have all the reviews back from my Gothic architecture essay so I can get working on that final draft.
I have three other minor papers besides those, an archeological review of a historical site, an analysis of Saladin and the capture of Jerusalem in 1187, and a sociological review. Funny how 3-5 page papers became minor to me this year. Oh the woes of a History/Anthropology major. I’d rather have essays than cumulative finals though…
I am also presenting on my two internships to the History Graduates Association at my university in two weeks and I have to write a 15 minute talk.
And then maybe I can finally sleep…but first, I must write.

Spring semester is hitting hard, I have done nothing but write papers and study for test for a week and a half. The rough draft for my biggest paper is due on Monday, so I will really have to jump start that this evening (once I’ve gotten through the new Taylor Swift album).
My Gothic architecture essay rough draft got excellent marks from my professor, so I just have to change a few things and make my transitions better and it’s an A paper. The paper I have to peer review is not going well, I don’t know what to tell them other than rewrite the paper.
I am also giving a presentation to the History Graduate Student Conference at my university about my internships, the abstract of which is due next week
Other than that my archeology project and sociology paper are lower on the list but still important.
So all in all it’s definitely April and I am never taking 18 credit hours again…

Apologies for the lack of journal updates, it has been nothing but homework and regular work for the last few weeks. Heading into the home stretch of spring semester and I’m really feeling those 18 credit hours. Currently working on my Gothic architecture essay, the initial draft is due tonight. Once that’s done I have a history presentation to finish and a sociology assignment I have to get a rough draft of done.
Once this semester is over I’ll be able to pop back to London and just relax and I am looking forward to that, so that’s what is really keeping me going. I have two classes that are grazing the bottom of the barrel with grades due to some hard tests. I’m really going to have to study to make sure I maintain my GPA.
I hope everyone else is making it through their spring semester. They are always much harder than fall, and having so many long papers due one after the other is difficult. But the last day of class is Monty Python in history!
Back to Chicago footnotes I go…

Essay outlining ft. messy scribble notes.
Did you know there are at least 15 separate sub-variants of Gothic architecture?? Now you do! I started this paper wondering if I’d be able to hit the page minimum (something that is notoriously hard for me to do, I am a very concise writer) and now I’m worried if I’ll be able to stay under the page maximum. I do adore Gothic architecture.
It’s always easier to write a paper on something you know nothing about, I’ve found. When you don’t know very much about a topic, surface level things are new and you don’t dig very deep.
When you know all the surface things and some of the deeper things, falling into a rabbit hole is so much easier. And that’s what I’ve done…
Hopefully the outline will be done by the time I get off work, then I’ll only have two homework assignments to do in the car tonight! One is simply annotating a document and the other is note taking so I am not too worried. This outline was taking up a lot of my bandwidth this week.
Then I really have to study for my geography test.
Hope everyone else is having a good week! I wish everyone good luck and good grades!

Thank you! I promise my notes are the only super neat thing I have, mostly because they have to be.
They took a lot of practice to get to this point, so don’t feel bad if yours don’t look this way! You can practice notetaking just like any other skill.
Everything I do is really just chaos thinly-veiled in competency.

Slow day today, mostly sociology and archeology homework.
Hopefully I finish these worksheets so I can have a free weekend but c’est la vie. I will probably end up doing much of my essay work on Sunday anyway.

Been a bit sluggish with updating recently, I’ve been very busy outside of university, and many of my assignments are multi-week these days. One of the retiring history professors was giving his collection of books away, so I stopped by his office and grabbed a few!
My grades are back up from when I was sick, and I am starting the outline for my essay on the development of Gothic architecture this evening. I have several interesting books from the library that I’ve just picked up.
I sent out some emails to people to interview for my second essay, but I haven’t heard back. Still hoping some of them get back to me, but I have other primary sources that could easily cover any holes in my research.
This evening I also have to finish a worksheet on Stasis Theory using a book about excluding people through language and how important language is to a person’s identity. I don’t fully understand Stasis Theory because I learned what it is trying to teach differently, but the book is very interesting.
After all of that I must study for my geography exam on Thursday. Prof said that it was the most difficult of the four exams, so I really need to put some effort in.

Sometimes academia is aesthetically studying old books to write an essay on gothic architecture, and sometimes it’s using those same skills to write a 5 page defense of zutara in 90 minutes for a bit

My sources for my first research paper have come in, so I have to get cracking on that. The absolute rabbit hole I went down researching sources. Doing a paper on something you know about is often much harder than doing one on something you know nothing about. I’m about the be insufferable when it concerns Romanesque and Gothic architecture.
I’ve sent emails to the people I want to interview for my second research paper and now I have to write out my interview questions.
I have my thesis and main supports for both papers figured out so I can focus less on them for now while I get some other classes’ homework out of the way. My six page paper on the development of Gothic architecture is due earlier than my 20 page paper, so my main focus will be on that, as much of the second half of my rhetoric course is dedicated to working on the paper.
I finished a week of digging through my trash for archeology so now I can focus on my sociology assignment that is due on Friday so I want to really focus on that.
And in between all of this, I’ll be studying for my geography exam next Thursday.
Happy Mid-Semester everyone!!!

Working on research for my medieval architecture paper! Medieval history and Archeology are going to be taking up a majority of my effort the next week or so. I have to give a presentation on the University of Oxford in class on Tuesday, so I have to put that together.
My grades slipped a little bit during the three weeks I wasn’t feeling very good, but I’m fully recovered and bouncing back. Certified Academic Weapon.
My middle school history teacher has invited me to teach a class for a day soon, so I’m starting research for that in my free time.

It’s Valentine’s Day again! Always remember most combination love locks are still set to 000!
i am currently neutral on love lock bridges but what did they do to you /lh
Thank you for allowing me this opportunity to rant my dear!
Here is my list of grievances against love locks:
The locks weigh down the bridges and create structural damage (a section of the railing of the Ponts de Arts bridge in Paris actually collapsed because of the weight of the locks, causing all the locks to be removed, 45 tons, and a new railing which could not be locked onto installed)
The keys that people throw into the rivers cause pollution (they fished 700,000 keys out of the Seine)
Locals often see them as graffiti as they cover beautiful bridges with garish locks, and local governments do not allow people to do that and often send out people to cut them off, the worst examples of this are historical draw bridges in Amsterdam that have these beautiful iron chains that are completely covered in locks
They are a prime example of tourists not caring about the city or place they are visiting and not respecting it because they don’t have to deal with the aftermath
All in all, what I have learned is that most people who use combo locks never change the combo from the factory 000 setting and the local governments will thank you if you show up with bolt cutters. It’s a better date idea anyway.
