the way this article is framed is very telling of who's side these news outlets are on imo. "Palestinian girl shot in mothers arms" instead of "Israeli soldiers shot Palestinian girl in her mother's arms."

the use of passive voice absolves the soldiers of any agency and makes it sound more like a spontaneous tragedy than a targeted act of violence. it also lets news outlets remove Israel's name from these headlines, and even though people ought to read news articles in their entirety, people who see this headline in passing will not get that information.

Sally Abu Laila did not just 'get shot.' Israeli soldiers shot her.

#this is a common theme in news coverage of palestine and has been for a while #israelis are 'killed' while palestinians just 'die' #to me it's a form of dehumanization that is frankly sickening to see

We actually do not know how many have been killed in Gaza. The numbers of those killed per day are seemingly less everyday compared to the start of the war, but we also hear of new daily massacres. We’re also hearing of Palestinians dying of starvation everyday, a number which is not included in the death toll. There’s not enough search and rescue teams to pull people from under the rubble, or that it’s too dangerous to do so. The Ministry of Health is unable to function properly, doctors and nurses are being killed off as hospitals are routinely bombed over and over, which means the current death toll is not being updated frequently and is most likely inaccurate. The carnage that Israel has left and continues to leave will only further result in the deaths of hundreds, if not thousands, even long after this ‘war’ is over. Does that not scare you? Does that not anger you?

Some things I think people are overlooking in the tiktok ban bill, because it's not just a tiktok ban:

It gives the US government the ability to ban *any* app, website, or company they believe to be "controlled" by an "adversarial power" which can change whenever they want

It allows the President and the Administrative branch almost unilateral power to designate *any* app, website, or company to be under the control of an "adversarial power" (and just think about how that can be used un the hands of, say, Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis)

They have to offer little to no evidence for this. For example, tiktok - a Singaporean-headquartered and ran company, partially owned by US interests, incorporated in the Cayman Islands, and whose userdata is stored Austin, TX - is apparently controlled by the Chinese government

It also gives the Federal Government the ability to investigate and shut down any provider who gives access to these banned websites or services, including VPN. They will have unilateral power to dismantle VPNs through outrageous fines what will essentially force them to not operate in the US

A lot of the Congressional Representatives who supported this bill have large donors and/or stock in US Tech companies like Meta, Google, or Palantier who would benefit from the downfall of tiktok or the ability to purchase it and monopolize the market

Those same tech companies which sell our data constantly anyway, including to "adversarial powers"

This is so much more than just a tiktok ban.

The US Senate posted a little outreach survey anyone can finish regarding issues ranging from the USA’s NATO membership, to a cease-fire in Palestine.
