The different responses of Lucy Chen
Part 2
Tim
Tim is Lucy's tough as nails T.O. He is her teacher/mentor and sometimes tormentor. From day one he has made it very clear that he would train her, that he would be hard and demanding because that's exactly what the job is. He put her through various tests and for the most part she managed to come out on top (pun intended) and impress him. Tim tries to keep boundaries between their T.O.-Rookie relationship but in my opinion they blurred pretty quickly. Between Isabel, his possible contamination with a deadly virus, spending the possible end of the world together, her helping him study and everything in between, their relationship isn't as straight cut as Tim expected. It is evident in this episode that he cares for Lucy.
He feels responsible and blames himself for Lucy's abduction. In my opinion, that has to do with the way he wants to approach her return. Rile her up, push her and remind her that she is not a victim but a cop in hopes of helping her overcome her tragedy. The thing is that this approach is partly for both of them. He will make sure to train her in a way that a) she will push through the pain and be better prepared and b) he will be reassured that he has done everything in his power to protect Lucy and maybe dull his worry (we all know that he will always be worried about her wellbeing).
At the end of the day Tim wants the best for her even if it's not him. He is convinced that Nyla could handle the situation better and all though a little hesitant he makes the tough call.
For both days of the switch he is concerned, gives her space, trying to trust Nyla, but still keeps tabs on her and has an eye out for any sign of trouble. Ready to jump in if the need arises.
As far as the tattoo is concerned he doesn't share the popular belief that she should remove it. In fact he doesn't stir her in any direction but makes a point about the importance of visible and invisible scars. He knows Lucy will overcome the challenges but he believes that she shouldn't erase or sweep her trauma under the rug but instead embrace and learn from it.
Last but not least, he is willing to open up about his past and briefly mentions the things he has had to face and we all know how hard it is for officer Tim Bradford to trust someone so much.
Lucy's response
In contrast to the way Lucy handled everyone else, mostly keeping them at arms length and pretending that she had worked through her trauma and was ready to return to work without much fuss, she isn't afraid to be vulnerable in front of Tim.
When he pretty much offered to help her if she needed anything, she asks him if her has a time machine. Tim is practically the only person whom Lucy dropped her brave "I'm fine" facade for and actually felt comfortable enough to admit, in her way, that she was hurting. She was more open with him than with anyone else and didn't pretend that her abduction hadn't affected her or try to play it off. She knew that he would see right through her and didn't feel the need to have her guard up or be defensive because Tim is the person she can trust her life with.
For me their interactions this episode show how much their partnership/friendship has evolved. They both respect each other enough to open up, not be as defensive as with everyone else and really listen to the other's person advice.

Just watched Melissa and Eric's live and I don't know how I'm feeling!
At first I was a little disappointed because I expected them to have prepared answer for the submitted questions but that didn't happen 😢
-We don't have a season 3 confirmation but everyone she hopeful!
-There is a cliffhanger in the finale...
-The future for chenford/tucy is uncertain. We may not get them at all or maybe we will but the actors have no idea when.
On a side note Melissa said, referring to the fact of the double shipping name, that she feels double strong and I thought it was really cute.
-Melissa also said that Tim is not her lock screen anymore and I'm dying inside!
-I'm actually worried about chenford's future. There is a possibility they won't be partners after the graduation...
-Someone commented that they should do a in the shop web series and I'm all here for it!
-I never thought how hard it was filming the flipped shop scene. For less than ten seconds of viewing they had to hung upside down for a couple of takes.
-They talked about how Lucy giving Cojo to Tim would have gone. Melissa said that Lucy would definitely cry and Tim although he loves dogs would act like he is doing her a favor. And now I need a fanfic of it! So please someone write it or if it exists pretty please direct me to it!
-Tim's emotions for Lucy are like a roller-coaster. She is definitely getting under his skin and he is battling between wanting to get close to her and maintaining a strick professional relationship.
-A medium told Melissa that she would meet two mature men. She would become close as friends to one of them (Eric was implied to be him) and she told her a lot of undisclosed to us things for the other. In my little fanfic mind I'm imagining Lucy having that interaction, where John is the friend while Tim is the I-won't-give-any-details-about guy!
Unrelated to chenford but let's take a moment to appreciate this gems!
-Melissa is definitely on our side regarding Eric's beard! Sadly, we won't see it in the show but we all agree it looks great!
-I really enjoyed seeing Eric act like a dad with his kids constantly interrupting him. They are the cutest!
-Eric auditioned in front of Hugh Jackman, he sang, and after Hugh hugged him and told Eric that he himself couldn't have done better *cue heart eyes*.
It was a great live. I hoped we would get more burning questions answered. But at this point I doubt that even the actors know what will happen. Fingers crossed it gets renewed quickly and in the new season we get some good slow burn scenes!

I've been indulging in the Prodigal Son and I was taken aback by a little detail. In episode 6 Clark Furlong plays a child named Isaac who stabbed his father 100 times. Imagine my surprise when I remembered that in The Rookie season 2 episode 9 he played Malcom a kid who murdered his mother by stabbing her.
I'm shook! And I hope in the future he gets more age suitable rules.

The different responses of Lucy Chen.
Part 1
Jackson
Jackson and Lucy are friends and for some time now they are also roommates thus he was with her after she got back from the hospital and all those weeks of her recovery. The thing is, I personally doubt she opened up to him. I don't think they talked about what happened and how difficult it is for her. However, he is there to support her without asking many questions. For example, he went out to buy her concealer at six o'clock in the morning and he has noticed that she covers the tattoo everyday but doesn't mention anything else to John concerning her mental health. In my opinion, Jackson is giving her space to cope and is waiting for Lucy to open up to him when (if) she is ready.
John
As for John, he is the fellow older rookie who became a boyfriend who turned into a friend. I think she hasn't talked to John either, not because she doesn't trust him but because it is something extremely personal, something that has taken a piece of her that she will never get back. In my opinion, always, John is the person who stands by your side no matter what but his almost constant optimism doesn't help in Lucy's case. He thinks that having the tattoo removed is a good idea because it will not serve as a reminder anymore but he neglects to see that it isn't just the tattoo but the memory of what happened that haunts her and the fact that she can't trust her instincts 100%.
Nyla
Nyla has shown her faith and support for Lucy before. She might not consider herself a mentor but I believe Lucy wants to learn from her and respects her experience and advice. She has a unique point of view and isn't afraid to speak about the differences between men and women in the workplace. It was the right move to take Lucy under her wing, to try and find common ground based on their similar experiences and help her work through the trauma. It is very important for Nyla to make Lucy understand that she is not alone and that she shouldn't bottle everything up (something Tim is known for doing). She wants to help Lucy trust her instinct again and be there for her because when something similar happened to her, Nyla didn't have a support system.
Lucy's response
Lucy wants to deal with her trauma in her own way. It is very difficult for her to open up and be vulnerable even in front of the people closest to her. Part of me believes that it is even harder for her because in theory she knows what she has to do in order to overcome it (her parents are psychologists and she has also studied psychology). However, knowing something in theory and actually implementing it are two different things.
We see her put up this wall between herself and the people around her. Where Jackson and John are concerned, Lucy assures them that she is absolutely fine and the doctors can attest to that (doctor signed off on physical, department shrink signed off on mental).
In Nyla's case, Lucy responds to her valiant efforts of getting through to her with 'I'm fine' 'I don't need help' and the knowledge she has gathered as a psych major/being the child of two therapists. She tries to reassure Nyla by using all those fancy terms (she has used cognitive and exposure therapy, combined with mindful breathing, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). However every time Nyla tried to bring up the subject, she was defensive and had her guard up.

The Rookie 2x12 Part 2
How do I even begin to review this episode... We literally got two interactions between Tim and Lucy and they were both gold! There was so much subtext that I'm starting to worry I'm making it all up. But that is a conversation for another time.
So without further ado let's delve into the wonder that is chenford.
Right of the bat I want to say that I'm really bothered with the whole concealer thing. I understand wanting to cover it up and it was spun beautifully throughout the episode but come on! Concealer stains, especially white clothes and it is really hard to clean. They could have shown her use a special brand or something but not drugstore products (were else could Jackson have found concealer at six o'clock in the morning).
Other than that Melissa's ability to convey so many emotions without saying a single word is truly amazing. I felt the pain and sadness Lucy was feeling. She has gone through something extremely traumatic and just wants to push it way and get on with her life. She doesn't want praise from her coworkers for surviving (another thing in common she has with Tim) and puts on a brave face. From assuring everyone that she is fine and doing her job without much fuss to genuinely being a good friend to Jackson when he needs someone to vent about his relationship with Sterling. It must be hard discussing relationship drama after what she has experienced.
It was nice seeing the girls hanging out but the speed dating thing was a bad idea (btw the best speed dating scene has to be the one is House M.D.). It was too soon and I understand pushing through the trauma and moving forward but things like that take time to heal and you can't force them.
It was nice to see Nyla have Lucy's back and try to help her. Opening up about her own experience must have been hard but for me it shows that she herself is trying to move forward and leave the horrors of the past behind. I did get some enjoyment from the fact that the case officer had to take a disability pension. Their interaction was wholesome.
Also can we take a moment to appreciate the fact that Lucy didn't believe that Tim would give her to another T.O. unless some sort of elaborate test was involved! In my opinion she was a bit hurt with the switch.
As for Tim he wasn't exactly eager to see Lucy riding with Nyla (who couldn't have known about their ride-along as she approached Tim way before John and Abigail talked, showing that she too truly cares about Lucy's wellbeing) but he wants the best for her. Furthermore, I think that riding with John and Abigail provided a nice distraction for him. We all know he wouldn't be able to keep his eyes away from her.
Although, they didn't spend much time together we got to see worried and overprotective Tim once again and I'm living for it! He asked both Angela (who btw thought that he should know what happened at the speed dating thing) and John how Lucy was doing. Firstly, let's take in the irony of Tim asking John if he is close to Lucy (can't wait for the day he finds out they were dating). Secondly, Angela is his close friend and it is easier to open up to her but directing the question to John shows exactly how desperate he is to know about the wellbeing of Lucy.
I will admit at the beginning of the episode I was a bit angry that they split up my favorite couple but as it progress I have to admit it was the right decision.
I will be doing an in depth analysis for some parts because I believe we can't cover everything within a review. So stay tuned and as always leave your comments down below!

The Rookie 2x12 Part 1
First thoughts:
1.How many people were in that car and most importantly how did they fit? The opening scene was funny as always.
2.It was nice seeing the three of them (John, Lucy, Jackson) having breakfast together. I feel like we don't get many scenes of them hanging out anymore.
3. Yes! Yes! Yes! The rookies moved sides again in roll call. Everything is right again.
4. Jackson looked so good on the red carpet! I'm living for his suit!
For a main character John didn't have much of a storyline this episode. It was more centered around the relationship between his son, Henry, and his soon to be daughter-in-law, Abigail. Don't get me wrong they are cute but they are also very very young. I mean how are they even going to pay for the wedding and why are they in such a rush to get married. On the topic of Abigail I like her, I really do, but in my opinion they haven't thought this through. She dropped out of college, she doesn't have a plan other than getting married, she is easily impressed and doesn't think of the consequences. Case in point she was so fascinated with the dead body but didn't think about how hard it would be for the family. It makes sense that she wants to be a cop, it is structured, strict and gives her a clear purpose, she can help those who can't protect themselves just like she couldn't. Even Tim was taken aback by her eagerness and at the end of the day he was impressed but still Abigail has a lot to work through as does Henry. No one should expect a 20 year old to have their life figured out but to me it seems like they are making one rush decision after the other.
Angela is the best. She was there for Jackson after his brush with fame showing him some tough love with good intentions. Their relationship reminsd of one between a big sister and her younger brother, it is so sweet. She was there for his fake break-up and also stood by Lucy. The red lipstick looked amazing on her and Angela having a flask is so on brand.
As for Jackson and Sterling I have to admit that they are cute and I'm glad that they found a way to work around their problem. The way they fawned over each other was so heartwarming. I'm still a little miffed that we didn't get an explanation for never seeing Gino again, he works at the hospital for crying out loud, but I guess it wasn't relevant to the story.
As for Nyla we got a better understanding of her past and undercover life. What happened to her was heartbreaking but the way she channeled her experience to help Lucy was inspiring.

Hello everybody! I'm sorry I haven't posted the review for episode 12 yet. It is proving to be the hardest episode to review. I literally have five pages of notes and about 100 things I want to say. I want to do it justice and not leave anything out! I'm rewatching it today for the third time and hopefully by the end of the day I will have it up!
In the meantime I've reposted some of my favorite posts as a reminder of how wonderful our ship is! ❤️

Did anyone realize how different Lucy responded to Tim than she did anyone else? With everyone else she was defensive, she was hard, she assured them she was fine. With Tim she was soft, she was sad, and she was honest. The “do you have a time machine?” was so emotionally intimate I felt like I was intruding by watching.

The best part about that scene between Tim and Lucy is that Tim didn’t give her back the ring to say I saved you. He did it to say you saved yourself.

I'm sorry. Was he just holding onto that ring the whole time? Was it in his locker? Did he put it in his pocket everyday? Did he look at it everyday and remind himself "She's alive. She's alive. She's alive." I can't handle this at all.
