I cannot BELIEVE I forgot to post about this here- the seal pup with lesbian moms has turned one year old today [April 5th]!

I can't express how lucky I am to have been able to watch him grow from a 1 month old pup, fresh out of backholding and exploring the pool for the first time, to being 1 year old and nearly 100 pounds! I had the luck of watching him go through the process of being weaned, choose his favorite enrichment items, and learn to navigate the world around him... and I got to watch him realize that he could annoy his father with no consequences, as he's incredibly tolerant to his mischief.

Helloo I work here, this is him now! 10 months old and about 94 pounds, big man.

Happy to say that his mamas are still a thing, before every feeding his mom chases his step mom around, and he trails after.

An image from when he was ~1 month old, as his moms engaged in some... activities.

Another story from the aquarium is that a seal had just given birth and I was talking to one of the seal keepers and asked if seals mate for life and she said no, the mom has now moved on and is trying to mate with another female seal. The male apparently couldn’t care less about either her or the pup, and apparently the other female seal is now playing with the baby seal and helping to teach him how to seal. Bisexual top mom and her girlfriend, who is not the step seal but the seal who stepped up. Anyway imagine if you had an absentee father but he lives in the same house as you, sure it’s a big house but you see each other all the time he just never talks to you.

@talesfromtreatment and I have an ask for our fellow corn snake keepers and breeders.

We're gathering information on corn snake size by age and we need community scientists like you to provide the largest possible body of data.

@talesfromtreatment will be using the information gathered to build an accurate, statistics-supported corn snake growth and feeding guide based on ACTUAL data from ACTUAL corn snake keepers like you! I'm just the numbers gal.

Here's what we need:

Your snake's age (in years)

Your snake's weight (in grams)

A top-down photo of your snake's entire body with an inch or centimeter reference. (see photo below)

We'd love to get data on older snakes, younger snakes, fatter snakes, skinnier snakes. If you've got a corn snake we want their age, weight, and a photo of them with a measuring device.

Photos don't need to be fancy, just give us a top-down view of your snake and a ruler/tape measure/yardstick on a flat surface.

The survey is anonymous and we won't share your photos with anyone nor use them for any purpose beyond collecting morphometric data for this specific study.
