Hello! I don't know if you've answered this question before so I'm sorry if it's a repeat. Are you a native Chinese speaker of have you been learning it? If you have been learning it, how long have you been doing so and what inspired you to start?
This next question can be answered if you are either a native speaker or someone learning Chinese: Where would you recommend starting for a complete beginner and what resources would you suggest using? I've been learning Chinese for just under a year now and my cousin wants me to help her start learning too, however what worked for me doesn't seem to be helping her progress so far.
Thank you so much for your time, I really appreciate it!💕💕
hi! first of all, I'm so sorry it took me sooo long to reply! okay, and now off to your questions :) I am not a native speaker, i once mentioned that in an introductory post - I've been studying mandarin for roundabout 6 years now. I am still at hsk 3 though, because I studied chinese in high school for 5 years and we didn't learn a lot of vocabulary. unlike now in university, where I get to learn 50-100 words/expressions per week (i am totally fine and it's definitely not an immense amount of workload haha)
well, what inspired me was that I was really into manga and wanted to study japanese but my high school "only" offered chinese classes as a compulsory optional class aand so I took it. not a very cool story, sorry :')
but i got hooked on the language when we went to beijing and I accidentally ran into luhan (that one dude from exo), I absolutely love telling that story haha
hm, so what helped me isn't something my chinese teacher would recommend, but I started watching shows in chinese, the easiest one you can find on youtube is peppa pig. you get to learn grammar and new vocab while developing a feeling for how the language works (even if you don't understand a lot). you could also start with the official hsk books, there are some pdfs floating around the internet. I think they're pretty expensive if you buy a copy though.
otherwise - listen to some chinese music or try to memorize the characters by drawing them in your head with eyes closed, that usually helps me with characters that are more tricky. also - try to talk in chinese, like daily conversation, I feel like that's the hardest part to get into when learning a language.
I hope that answered all your questions and good luck on teaching your cousin! :D

hello<3
I am currently still very stressed (and also a little sad though there's a different reason every second day lol), but I didn't want to leave y'all with no information on when I'll be back, so!
until january 6th, I have to write a big, important essay and after that I'll try to be back! to start off the year, I will probably schedule some posts and start regular posting on the 1st of january.
next week I will post the second "wrapped"-post, so look out for that :)
also, I will try to answer all your questions soon!
bye for now and thanks for following this blog<3
