INNER SANCTUM ♦ Old Time Radio ♦ Beneficiary Death ♦ EP 44 ♦ 04-17-1950
Inner Sanctum Radio Show 04-17-1950
Episode 44
Title: Beneficiary Death
Created By: Himan Brown
Genre(s): Radio drama, Supernatural fiction, Old Time Radio
Language: English
Summary: Inner Sanctum Mystery, also known as Inner Sanctum, a popular old-time radio program that aired from January 7, 1941, to October 5, 1952, was created by producer Himan Brown and was based on the imprint given to the mystery novels of Simon & Schuster. In all, 526 episodes were broadcast. The program's familiar and famed audio trademark was the eerie creaking door which opened and closed the broadcasts. Himan Brown got the idea from a door in the basement that "squeaked like Hell." The door sound was actually made by a rusty desk chair. The program did originally intend to use a door, but on its first use, the door did not creak. Undaunted, Brown grabbed a nearby chair, sat in it and turned, causing a hair-raising squeak. The chair was used from then on as the sound prop. On at least one memorable occasion, a staffer innocently repaired and oiled the chair, thus forcing the sound man to mimic the squeak orally. The Hermits Cave Radio Show
Episode: 24 Title: You Only Die Once
Air Date: Unknown
Genre(s): Horror, Fantasy, Old Time Radio, Supernatural Fiction
Language: English
Summary: The Hermit's Cave was a syndicated radio horror series. The syndication was done via scripts, so that stations could broadcast the program with their own casts. The program began in September 1937 and continued into the mid-1940s on WJR AM in Detroit, Michigan. In 1942, WJR's broadcasts of the show were recorded and broadcast a week later on WBBM in Chicago, Illinois. By 1943, transcriptions of the WJR version of the program were also being broadcast in eight additional cities. KMPC AM in Los Angeles, California, broadcast it from 1940 to 1944,[3] with William Conrad as producer. Over 800 episodes were produced[citation needed] but fewer than 40 are currently available. Show sponsors included the Carter Coal Company which advertised its home-heating coal product, Olga Coal, and the Simoniz Company which promoted its various automotive care products like Simoniz Cleaner. The Hermit's Cave was narrated by the character, the Hermit, with a majority of episodes beginning with the following dialogue: Ghost stories! Weird stories. And murders, too! The Hermit knows of them all! Turn out your lights. Turn them out, and listen while the Hermit tells you ... Throughout the years, the voice of the Hermit was provided by various actors beginning with John Kent and later by Charles Penman, Toby Grimmer, Klock Ryder, Mel Johnson, and John Dehner. In January 1950, The Hermit's Cave returned to WJR. The Hermits Cave Radio Show Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...

Space Patrol
Title: The Mystery Of The Masked Martians
Old Time Radio
Air Date: 06-05-54
Episode: 68
Genre(s): Science Fiction, Dramatic Radio, Old Time Radio
Language: English
Summary: The radio version of Space Patrol ran from 4 October 1952 to 19 March 1955, for 129 episodes. The same cast performed on both shows. The writers, scripts, and directors were reused between the radio and TV incarnations, but the radio broadcasts were not limited by studio sets and became more expansive in scope than the television programs. Although there was seldom any deliberate crossing-over of storylines, some of the television villains regularly appeared on the radio (notably Prince Bacarratti), and during the "Planet X" story, both the TV and radio versions explored the rogue planet's invasion of the Space Patrol universe. While the radio series lacked the sophistication of sci-fi shows like the later X Minus One, it was enjoyed as a throwback to the Golden Age of space opera popularized in the 1930s by pioneering magazine editor Hugo Gernsback. Only 117 of the original broadcasts survive. Summary by Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_P...) Space Patrol Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list... Title: THE WHISTLER
Air Date: 07-09-1943
Episode 34 Episode Eye For An Eye
Genre(s): Radio drama, Detective Fiction, Old Time Radio
Language: English
Summary: The Whistler is an American radio mystery drama which ran from May 16, 1942, until September 22, 1955, on the west-coast regional CBS radio network. The show was also broadcast in Chicago and over Armed Forces Radio. On the west coast, it was sponsored by the Signal Oil Company: "That whistle is your signal for the Signal Oil program, The Whistler." There were also two short-lived attempts to form east-coast broadcast spurs: July 3 to September 25, 1946, sponsored by the Campbell Soup Company; and March 26, 1947, to September 29, 1948, sponsored by Household Finance. The program was also adapted into a film noir series by Columbia Pictures in 1944. Each episode of The Whistler began with the sound of footsteps and a person whistling. (The Saint radio series with Vincent Price used a similar opening.) The haunting signature theme tune was composed by Wilbur Hatch and featured Dorothy Roberts whistling with an orchestra. A character known only as the Whistler was the host and narrator of the tales, which focused on crime and fate. He often commented directly upon the action in the manner of a Greek chorus, taunting the characters, guilty or innocent, from an omniscient perspective. The stories followed a formula in which a person's criminal acts were typically undone either by an overlooked but important detail or by the criminal's own stupidity. An ironic ending, often grim, was a key feature of each episode. But on rare occasions, such as "Christmas Bonus" broadcast on Christmas Day 1944, the plot's twist of fate caused the story to end happily for the protagonist.
