Devil All The Time Review
Tumblr media
The Devil All The Time is written by Antonio Campos, Paul Campos and is based on the novel by Donald Ray Pollock and was directed by Antonio Campos. The film stars Bill Skarsgard, Tom Holland, Sebastian Stan, Jason Clarke, Riley Keough, and Robert Pattinson. A story that revolves around a young man protecting those he loves.
I have to say - I’m thankful that Netflix is releasing movies, since CoVid has hit and I’m not sure when theaters near me will be opened again. So when this one came out I was extremely excited. The cast has many of my favorites in it and so I couldn’t wait to see it.
I will preface this review with this fact - I am a HUGE Robert Pattinson fan. I see anything and everything he is in when I can. This film - I have to say it’s one of his best performances because he made me HATE him. With a burning passion. I kept hoping to not see him, which for me was a rare thing.
The story is enthralling. You realize quickly that almost everyone is not a redemptive character which makes you unsure about how the movie will end, but it keeps you hanging on for the ride. This is so rare - to go into a movie and realize 99% of them are not likable yet you still finish the film doesn’t happen often.
I had not realized that this film was based on a novel so now I want to read it to get an even more in depth look into these characters. And the author of the book narates the film which I absolutely love.

The Hunt Review
Tumblr media
The Hunt stars Betty Gilpin and Hilary Swank. It was directed by Craig Zobel and written by Nick Cuse and Damon Lindelof. The story of 12 strangers waking up in a Hunger Games like situation. They are on manor grounds and are there for The Hunt.
I'm glad I watched this film. I was very iffy on if this would be good or not, and before everything got crazy this year I had been on the edge on if I should see it in theaters or not - with not being the ultimate outcome.
If you loved Cabin In The Woods you will like this movie. It has a very similar style. The campy horror movie that is almost self referential and makes it obvious they're aware of how campy the film is.
I did have a problem with Gilpen's acting - there were many times in which it seemed as though she was about to cry, while I really think she was just trying to be distraught. Her facial experessions didn't match what was happening in the story.
But this did not deter me from liking it. I don't like it any less because of her performance. I still really enjoyed putting in a movie, that's almost a mindless one to watch, and enjoying a good story that made me laugh while also made me stressed.

You Should Have Left Review
Tumblr media
You Should Have Left stars Kevin Bacon and Amanda Seyfried. This film was directed by David Koepp and written by David Koepp and Daniel Kehlmann. A story of a banker who has had to retire, due to a secret he carries with him, and his actress wife escaping to a home in Welsh, where everything starts turning upside down.
I went into this having read some reviews - some by friends and some online from credible sources and I was nervous about this movie. I watched it with a friend and her family and even warned them going into it that we would be disappointed by it possibly.
Typically when I go into movies with this frame of mind I end up loving them. This is exactly what happened with this film. The biggest part that was going to hook me up on the story was the fact that Kevin Bacon and Amanda Seyfried were playing husband and wife, but they hit that nail on the head (numerous times) and made it obvious this was a tactic they were using in the story. Which then made my one qualm with the story moot. Some people might get annoyed at the fact that the age difference gets brought up multiple times in numerous ways, but to me it helped me to get past that problem.
I love horror movies - and when it comes down to it I'm a wimp. But mainly when I say this I just typically cover my ears (the noise/music is always the worst part) and sometimes have to sleep with lights on depending on the movie/my mood. This film made me scream twice. Of course they were your typical jump scares but I was not prepared for them at all. Which then made me love it, if I scream in a film it's rare so when it happens the movie gets major points in my book.
And finally as someone who is an editor I tend to pay attention to cuts more than others. And typically films are boring with their editing style - they're not creative and they barely help move the story along. This film had edits in it that made my heart happy. One I even took my phone out to record in hopes to inspire me so that I can use it for a short of mine in the future.
Times lately are tough - films are rarely coming out and if they do come out its straight to streaming or RedBox. It's why I haven't reviewed in a long time. But I'm glad to jump back into it and I couldn't have asked for a better film to start with. I know most everyone has the time on their hands now, and I think it would be a great service to yourself if you gave this film a shot.

Onward Review
Tumblr media
Onward was directed by Dan Scanlon. It stars Tom Holland and Chris Pratt. The story of two brothers who go on an adventurous quest to try and bring their father back.
As always, Pixar hits this one on the head. I loved this movie. It was perfect, fun and friendly. The perfect movie for kids and for adults. I love Chris Pratt and Tom Holland and they play off each other so well. Even though they were animated they voice acted in a way that pulled on your heart strings.
The most ironic part of this is that I have been wanting to play Dungeons and Dragons for a while - I just am a visual person so not having anything visual in front of me causes some boredom when I try to play D&D. But this film has made me want to play it again. While these characters ended up able to actually use the magic, but the heart of the story lies in D&D.
I also loved the ending - I will not spoil it for you but it wasn’t exactly what I would have expected from a Pixar film. It was perfect and I was actually super happy with how they ended it. Normally you can tell what’s going to happen, and how these stories will end. But this one - to me - came out of left field.
And since the world is in such a weird state now, you can watch Onward on demand! It had been in theaters when the pandemic hit, and this therefore pushed the release to streaming services earlier. This is a perfect film to watch with your family during this time!

Seberg Review
Tumblr media
Seberg was directed by Benedict Andrews. This film stars Kristen Stewart, Jack O’Connell and Anthony Mackie. The story of Jean Seberg and how she became a target of the FBI due to her ties to civil rights movements.
This film was moving. You will leave the theater feeling a little bit sad over the facts of the story but it opens your eyes. As someone who was born in the 90′s I had no idea about Jean Seberg. Had never heard of her and never would have if it weren’t for this film. And I’m glad I now know because it’s something I think that everyone should be aware of.
Kristen Stewart portrayed Seberg in such a great way. Each scene she made you feel what the character was feeling. This is either good or bad. Your paranoia grew as hers did, you became sad for her as she battled depression over this. You wanted to help her fight the good fight while also keeping her protected from the FBI.

The Gentlemen Review
Tumblr media
The Gentlemen was directed by Guy Ritchie, and was written by Guy Ritchie, Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies. The film has an all star cast including Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Michelle Dockery, Jeremy Strong, Eddie Marsan, Colin Farrell, and Hugh Grant. The story of an American marijuana lord who triggers a war over his company as he’s about to retire.
This film was done in the way of a pitch. Hugh Grant’s character is essentially the paparazzi, wanting to get the most juicy story out of everything that is really happening. And he is pitching what has happened to Mickey Pearson’s (McConaughey) right hand man Hunnam. So you get flashes of the past, most of the story is told in past tense, unless there’s story/character building for Hunnnam or Grant in the present day. I thought this was so unique and creative. To have a film, filmed as if it’s a movie pitch. And Grant’s character at one point explains what he would like the film, filmed on and it breaks the fourth wall by showing the different versions of what he’s talking about. CREATIVE. I loved it.
I went into this, as I do with most films, without a clue as to what I was getting myself into. I just knew that I loved the cast of the film so wanted to give it a go. I’m so glad I did, it might be one of the best films of 2020. It was creative, every actor in this did such a fantastic job. McConaughey was perfect as Pearson and I wouldn't want anyone else. Right off the bat they throw you a curveball without you realizing it, and the story had so many twists and turns that it was fun to keep up with. And I literally mean it was fun. I did not ever enjoy myself during this film once.

Underwater Review
Tumblr media
Underwater was directed by William Eubank and was written by Brian Duffield and Adam Cozad. The film stars Kristen Stewart, T. J. Miller, Vincent Cassel and Jessica Henwick. A crew of researchers who are taking on the world underneath our oceans tries to get to safety after an earthquake hits their ship and threatens to keep them underwater.
I went into this movie telling my friend this was either going to be the cheesiest movie we saw of 2020 or that we would LOVE this movie. The latter happened. I wouldn’t say this is now one of my favorite movies but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn’t see half of what was coming, coming. I had assumed we were going to get a story of a group of people trying to not get kept underwater but then got a monster movie. Yes, I realize most of the previews that are out show the monsters but I am someone who goes into most movies not having seen a single preview. The only time I allow myself to watch previews is before movies I’m seeing in theaters! Therefore I had not seen a preview for this one.
About 20 minutes into the film I realized what I also really liked about this film. Normally "scary” films like this take place in outter space. Because that is such an expansive place and it’s so far from earth. We barely know anything about what is orbiting outside of our planet so it’s scary. But having watched this I realized, THE OCEAN IS SCARY TOO. I personally never think about this because, well, if I’m at the beach enjoying the ocean I don’t want to think about how far the bottom of the ocean is actually from me. We don’t know what is beneath us, we don’t know what could happen under there. And if you’re going down and you get trapped....well you’re screwed. And so from 20 minutes in I was having a mini-panic attack thinking about what these characters were going through and how I’d react if I were them.
T.J. Miller was definitely the comic relief in this film, but I felt like his comic relief was too much. Half of the time I didn’t want a funny joke about what was happening, I just wanted story. And this was when his character would spout an off the wall remark meant to make people laugh. They never really hit home, not with anyone in the theater I was in at least.
And last but not least. Kristen Stewart. I’m so glad that she’s coming back, and that she got to play the role of a badass woman who is underwater fighting a badass monster. She is this years Sigourney Weaver fighting her own kind of alien. And this film did all the story tropes in such a different way, in only a way Kristen Stewart could portray it. Without giving spoilers I think the ending was perfect, it’s how you would hope a character who has been as strong as Kristen’s would go out.
I was very pleasantly surprised with this film, and I really think everyone else would be too.

Spies in Disguise Review
Tumblr media
Spies in Disguise was directed by Nick Bruno and Tom Quane. The film was written by Lucas Martell, Cindy Davis, Lloyd Taylor and Brad Copeland. The film stars Will Smith, Tom Holland, Rashida Jones, Karen Gillan and DJ Khaled. The story about one of the worlds most renown spies learning what it means to be a part of a team.
Sometimes kids movies are needed for adults. It’s a way to escape from the reality that you face, or the stress that comes with day to day life. And this was the perfect movie for that. I love Will Smith and Tom Holland so putting them together in a film was genius.
This is a heart felt story, such as most children's movies are. One that teaches about how it’s good to work as a team rather than go it alone. Holland does great as the kid that changes Smith’s characters way of thinking, and Smith was the perfect choice for the big time spy Lance.

Jumanji: The Next Level Review
Tumblr media
Jumanji: The Next Level is directed by Jake Kasdan and was written by Kasdan as well as Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. The film stars Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan. The story of Jumanji, the famed game that creates an opening for “players” to be fully immersed in the game...literally.
I’m going to be honest. I had heard NOTHING of this film until Nick Jonas started posting stills on Instagram and said that this was coming. That shocked me. I loved the first one, and obviously the original, but I wasn’t sure how they would make a sequel to a story that had already created 2 great movies.
This film was entertaining. If you’re looking for something that will make you think - this is not it. If you’re looking for something that can help you take your mind off things and laugh every once in a while this is the film for you. Again like I said, it’s predictable such as most comedic films are, and it’s not one that makes you have to think. Which can be enjoyable at times. I love the relationship between Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, and you can tell by how they play their characters that they have a great time working with one another. For them alone I’d watch all the Jumanji’s they want to release.
From the end credit scene of Jumanji I feel like they’re going to make a third film. And while I feel like this makes this series over done, if they’re going the way I think they’re going, I cannot wait for it.
As well, I felt like a lot of the gimmics that worked well with this story had already been done, so seeing it a second time was a little annoying/frustrating. But not enough to make me hate the film itself. Just something that made me think about how I’d rather see original stories being made over sequels/reboots.

Uncut Gems Movie Preview
Tumblr media
Uncut Gems is directed by Benny and Josh Safdie. Written by Ronald Bronstein, Benny and Josh Safdie. Starring Adam Sandler. The story of a Jeweler who is always looking for the next big pay out and a way to get ahead.
This is such a different role for Adam Sandler. Unlike anything he has ever done before. Going into this everyone is going to have their fears on how this film will turn out based on that alone. But Sandler does not disappoint. This might be his best role, to date. Although Spanglish is definitely one of my favorite movies that he’s ever done.
The editing of this film was amazing as well. The whole time you are as tense as Sandler is because you are wondering what is going to happen next. And you really only want the best for Sandler’s character even after he’s not shown in the best light. But what you really want is for him to redeem himself, and you keep expecting it but then he turns around and does something else.
He plays one of the best hateable yet loveable characters I’ve ever seen to date. The pace of the film is one that sets the movie up for success as well, due to the pace of the film this is what causes you to become tense. You can tell that things are happening even when you aren’t ready for them. Which causes your anxiety to peak. I had a friend of mine text me and say she liked the movie but hated how anxious it made her. I didn’t realize what she had meant until I watched the movie for myself.
I think this is a movie that everyone should give a chance. Adam Sandler set himself up as a comedic actor but he shines in this film and proves that he can be a great serious actor.

Bombshell Review
Tumblr media
Bombshell was directed by Jay Roach and written by Charles Randolph. This film stars Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron and Margot Robbie. The story about the women who took down Roger Ailes at Fox News.
As a female, watching this, I felt sick to my stomach. Not because of the content but because I know this exists. And because I know that although we like to believe that it doesn’t happen in places with such prestige, it happens more often there and gets covered up.
While most everyone already knows the story of what happened this was nice to see a dramatization of it. Obviously things didn’t quiet happen like this and so you take the film with a grain of salt. But you still leave the theater feeling as if you’ve learned something about society. The editing was fantastic, it was fast paced and brought you further into the story. Because of the pace of the film it helped you to get lost in the story. The editor knew when to slow down so that the audience can take in what is happening and when to bring the pace up so that it could ensure that audiences didn’t get lost.
The story of the film was one of the main reasons to see this film. The girls did phenomenal acting. Charlize as always was brilliant. I wish they gave Nicole Kidman more scenes than what she had, but her portrayal of Gretchen Carlson, the wrench in everything that started the downfall of Roger, was fantastic as you’d expect when watching a Kidman performance.
I think this is something that everyone would benefit from watching. I would like to think that everyone is aware that this is a reality that women face in the workplace. But I feel like most people are ignorant to this, and this could possibly bring this to life.

Star Wars Episode IX Rise Of Skywalker
Tumblr media
Star Wars The Rise Of Skywalker was directed by J. J. Abrams and was written by J. J. Abrams and Chris Terrio. Starring Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac and John Boyega. The epic saga continues in this epic finale. Will Rey realize her true powers? Will Kylo Ren go to the light side as Ben Solo?
As a lover of Star Wars I enjoyed this movie. This is to say I love a good lightsaber fight with some bad guys thrown in the mix. With some great scenes including R2D2 and C3PO together, and Chewy playing interstellar Chess what is not to like?
Well....there’s some obvious holes within this saga. Let’s start with the obvious. That is that J.J directed The Force Awakens as well as The Rise Of Skywalker. Not The Last Jedi. You can overwhelmingly tell. I was excited to get J.J. back to answer the questions that had been left unanswered. But I wasn’t prepared for the rush this would make audiences feel while trying to catch up. If you start a story to go one way, you can’t take it elsewhere and then bring it back. Which is what happens.
Not to mention the plot and story holes. There are certain things that Rey does that feel very out of character for her. Especially with the ending. Without spoilers just know that if you’re highly critical then this might not be the best film for you. But if you’re going into this movie just for a story that takes you through the force, this is the one for you.

A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood Review
Tumblr media
A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood was directed by Marielle Heller and written by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster. Starring Tom Hanks as Fred Rogers. The story of a journalist who had a troubled childhood who is asked to interview Mr. Rogers for a magazine.
This is a beautiful and heartfelt film. One that makes you realize just how lucky we were to have Mr. Rogers in our life. My childhood was definitely shaped by this man, I remember watching his show as a child. I don’t fully remember the show but I was moved enough to see this movie because of what little memories I had of this show.
It made me wish that I knew Mr. Rogers personally. He seemed like such a genuine guy that really truly cared about those around him. This was a film that we need in todays day and age. It feels as though very little people in the world care about others - hopefully this will be the wake up call that this world needs.
The film was beautifully shot. It was very nostalgic of 90′s style shows/movies. This made it even more fun to watch. The nostalgia was real while watching this movie. A good portion of it seemed to have been shot on a camera from that area.
Everything about this film was to bring nostalgia to those that watched Mr. Rogers. From the music to the editing. It hit on all the feels of every 90′s babies childhood. And Tom Hanks knocked it out of the park as Mr. Rogers. Hanks is always someone that basically everyone around watches; you can always count on him. I was a little bit worried this time, I felt like Mr. Rogers was a difficult role to fill. Boy was I wrong. Tom did great, so great that I’ve watched Forrest Gump and all I could see was Mr. Rogers as a young man.

Last Christmas Review
Tumblr media
Last Christmas was directed by Paul Feig, was written by Emma Thompson and Bryony Kimmings and was inspired by George Michael. It stars Emilia Clarke, Henry Golding and Emma Thompson. A story about a girl who is going down a slippery slope in life who then meets a boy who is able to help her turn it around.
I’m going to do a Spoiler Free review. I will say that there is a slight twist in the movie that actually took me by surprise. Which was a nice surprise since I thought I was going to a see a typical romcom.
Emilia Clarke is, as always, amazing in this role. You go on such a journey with her and she is probably one of the best leaders for this journey. You feel her pain and you feel her tumultuous decisions as she makes each one throughout the film. Henry Golding is as charming as you would hope for a leading man in a romcom to be. He stole the scenes that he was in, and he made you want him back for more whenever he wasn’t on the screen.
The story - you will need tissues. The whole theater I watched with was in TEARS by the end of the film. And I mean full on, sobbing, I wish I had a box for everyone tears. Again, not going to spoil anything but it is a heart felt story that pulls on all your heart strings and makes you feel all the feels.
Needless to say, I’m glad I saw it. I hadn’t originally wanted to go but wanted to have a Holiday evening with my mom, and this was the perfect film for that. And then I ended up really enjoying it and glad I saw it in theaters. So if you weren’t planning on seeing it, go ahead and give it a shot. It’s not like a Hallmark movie that’s predictable and Santa randomly appears. It’s a real holiday film with some heavy content in it. While also being charmingly funny.
