Chapter One: Tough Luck and a good friend; part one

Lapis took a deep breath as she took out the key to her new apartment, fumbling with the lock as she stressed. The door creaked on rusty hinges as it opened, Lapis reached for the switch next to her and sighed as the light shined dimly, adding some sort of brightness to the dusty, almost empty room.

She recounted the past weeks events as she walked inside; she was fired from her job, got evicted from her old apartment, had her best friend move out of the city, and her cat died. Needless to say, if she wasn't a wreck before she certainly was now.

On top of that, she was going to have to put out some sort of ad for a roommate, as Steven had hooked her up with this place and payed for two months rent- giving her some time to get another job and someone to help her out other then him.

She sat her bag down on the bed, pulling out some of her clothes and a pillow and blanket, tossing them onto the mattress carelessly, closing her eyes and leaning forward, resting on her wrists.

What are ways to get a roommate? A flyer? A post somewhere online? ...one of Steven's friends??

She groaned, she could figure it out later. She needed to unpack.

A knock was heard, Lapis turned her head, "Steven! Hey-" She stood up, turning to face him. "What're you doing here?"

The boy smiled, "Just came over to see if you needed any help unpacking," he glanced around, "seems like you got that covered though. And, I'm here to buy you some coffee, introduce you to this side of the city. I've got somone in mind for you to room with too! We can talk about it over coffee, get your shoes on, come on." He gestured to the door.

"Come on Steven, you've already done so much for me-" "Shhh, it's cool, I got this! Now come on." Lapis laughed a little, nodding in agreement and following him out the door, turning the light off and locking the door again, leaving it looking like she'd never been there at all.

So Steven had payed for two months of her rent, was buying her coffee, giving her a tour of this end of Empire City, had a roommate in mind for her already, and if she knew him, and she did, he was probably job searching for her as well. She had a lot to pay him back for, but stars if she wasn't thankful for him.

Finally caved and made an actual blog for this AU

Uh quick description? Started as an excuse to draw gays, spiraled into a story.

Background info: The story line of SU has completely changed. The rebellion won over the diamonds back when Rose was still alive, and gems have been living on Earth for thousands of years.

Rose and Greg still had Steven, but they had time to prepare for the loss of Rose so the gems didn't resent Steven for it, and most gem related issues are already worked out. Steven grew up almost like a normal human kid, and moved out at 17 to live in Empire City.

This AU centers around Lapis and Peridot, though. Peridot and Steven are good friends, Lapis works with him at the local cat cafe. Lapis has lived in Empire City since the end of Homeworld's rein, and ends up needing a roommate, that being Peridot. That's about it for now, other then the angst of Lapis never admitting her and Peridot are 'together', resulting in a lot of messy feelings between them.
