I noticed that an amazing fic I read with over 60k words and over 900 kudos...didn't receive a single comment in 2022.

There were some comments in 2021, then a gap, then a few comments from this year. That is insane.

Ao3 is not built like Wattpad, it is not meant to treated like the 'latest hits' page where you only read the new works, or where you only click on sort by number of kudos. It doesn't matter if the fic you like is not wip anymore - if you really like the story, comment. A simple heart will do. The author won't think you're annoying, in fact they'll probably be incredibly happy.

Fic authors don't deserve to have their work just disappear with no engament after few weeks pass. The fics don't deserve it either

The first story I can remember writing was in 5th grade. It was a school assignment that also doubled as a writing contest with the local (tiny town) bookstore. I was the only 10 year old that wrote a horror story. It was called "The Thing Under the Rug". I won the contest and that just made me want to write more.

My grandparents soon after got a word processor (think late 80s) and I started my first long story. I don't think it had a name but I remember sitting in their creepy finished basement for hours just typing away about a young slave girl who dreamed of being a dancer, and the plantation owner who secretly helped her become that. Why this came to me I have no idea. But I am now 46 and still think about that story.

It's true. Words and stories just come to you. Rarely do you have a say in what flows, but when you just give in to it, some of the words that come are truly magic.

I miss you all.

I miss writing, terribly. I miss the interactions I had in the past with my amazing mutuals. It used to bring me soooo much happiness and scrolling tumblr the last few days has really made me wanna get back into it.

I have a bunch of unfinished fics, and a few new requests, but for some reason my brain doesn't wanna cooperate with any of the things. I keep telling myself, it's fine, really. I'll just wait out the writer's block. But really...

So... help? Maybe? IDK how to even get back in the saddle with writing. Life is decent at the moment: no drama, no toxic people, just an amazing, supportive boyfriend. My kids are happy and healthy, and I even finally got a new car!

But something IS missing, and I KNOW its this world. So, any advice on getting back on the fic train, I would greatly appreciate it.
