Garuru’s funny because he’s super serious when he’s on duty and when he’s off-duty he’s sort of a dork. xD Nah he really cares about Giroro, he just tries his best to act all official and it comes off as intimidating or pompous to Giroro.
Giroro’s always been used to Garuru receiving all the praise and honor because Garuru’s highly skilled in nearly all aspects. So it’s caused Giroro to grow jealous of him and even resent him a tad. In actuality, Garuru’s gone to the lengths of altering statistics, among other things, to make Giroro look better and keep him on his Earth mission.
I think maybe Garuru also just has some difficulty with showing blatant affection but that’s just because he’s trying to maintain his serious, militaristic front. Similar to Giroro. I figure he probably messes with Giroro a little because of how grumpy he is too. xD

The garuru platoon in sgt frog is one of the funniest thing In the show to me like the leader is an incredibly good solider who was trained from childhood by one of the most legendary soldiers in their army. Then his second in command is a fucking cyborg edgelord ninja and the other two members are literaly just fucking children
