"I read Adam Rex's book in 2007 and thought it had a great message about how, perhaps innocently, we can be so arrogant about our own culture, friends, likes, and dislikes. It also showed how hard we have to work and the beautiful results we can get when we really try to step in someone else's shoes. It tells the story of an alien invasion from the aliens' point of view. The story imagines the aliens as these swaggering, arrogant creatures who think that they're the best things that happened to Earth." - Tim Johnson, Director

“Betty Boop was a popular cartoon character in the 1930s. Her creator, Max Fleischer, made this model sheet to present the standard ways in which Betty Boop must appear from different views and angles. It also suggested the basic construction of the cartoon character.”

"For the sets we tried to capture the spirit of the Japanese word wabi-sabi, which translates loosely as imperfect beauty. So our buildings might not be perfectly square. There's some movement in their design." - Phil Brotherton, assistant art director

“We wanted to visually reinforce the idea that the human world is more appealing to Remy, more seductive. So one of the principles we decided on was that the human world would be warm, and the rat world would be cool. The human world would be lighter in value with more local color; the rat world would be darker in value and more muted.”
