I just want to say as someone who was/ is abused by someone who legitimately has NPD (as in it's been confirmed by not only therapists, but friends who also have NPD):
It's ableist af to throw people with NPD or any other PD under the bus and automatically assume that they're abusive.
I know people with NPD who are great and I'm very happy to be friends with them. Alters in our own system hold those traits, and would meet the criteria. I also know shitty people with NPD who totally suck.
Y'know, kinda like with any other group of people. Some suck and it doesn't mean that the entire group of people also sucks.
My mom's personality disorder didn't make her destined to become an abuser. She continously made decisions that made her an abuser, even when confronted, even when she had countless chances to get help and choose to do better. That's on her.
Edit: It wasn't a special type of abuse. It was emotional abuse. Not "narcissistic abuse", just textbook emotional abuse.
really liking something is not the same as having a hyperfixation.
being tempted to do something is not the same as a compulsion.
not being good at spelling is not the same as being dyslexic, having maths anxiety is not the same as having dyscalculia, and being clumsy is not the same as being dyspraxic.
dying your hair a funky colour and then spending a weekend alone is not the same as having a mental breakdown.
stop using specific psychological words to mean something different to what it really means.
because conflating a normal experience everyone has with a symptom or trait of a mental illness or neurodivergence causes real harm. it takes the meaning away from a word meant to describe a specific, and often challenging, experience.
I’m absolutely not going to speculate about what neurodivergencies any streamer may or may not have, because that’s weird, however can I just say how uplifting it is as a nd person to see streamers who display nd traits be so loved and appreciated by their friends, not in spite of those traits but because of them.
hello psychotic tumblr! im a soon to be student of speech language pathology (as in applying to grad school for it as we speak) who is also schizoaffective. so a huge interest of mine is language and disorganized and disordered language in mental illness. so i made this research project! i’ll put the link in the reblogs because you know how tumblr is with links. but its looking at how different psychotic disorders (schizophrenia vs major depression with psychotic disorders for example) present different aspects of disorganized speech (slow speech versus word salad or nonsense sentences) and seeing what major data patterns come up. if you are psychotic PLEASE take a minute and take it for me and then pass it around. thank you so much!
