Pico my boyyy! Christine Linneweever's Gouden Paarden series are excellent books and they're all from the horse's pov. The title of this book translates to "Pico's search"

First book I read of this series and it grabbed me immediately. Pico is an appaloosa who's been outcast his whole life (he was an accidental baby - his mom is a prized New Forest mare who accidentally got pregnant from one of the neighbour's escaped appaloosas) and then ends up at a ranch full of appaloosas where he finally feels at home. He's a birthday present for the daughter of the owners, but while Martine loves horses she doesn't want to ride them (she's a ballet dancer instead). She's also scared of what happened to the stablehand Ezra happening to her (he fell of a horse, got a bad injury and hasn't ridden since due to trauma).

While Martine and her parents are on holiday, Ezra is determined to secretly train Pico to be able to be ridden so that if Martine does ever want to ride him, she can. Pico helps Ezra overcome his trauma. Martine and her parents get back soon because Martine was so worried about Pico, and they see Ezra riding him, and they're all happy that he helped.

It turns out, Pico is quite musical. Together, Martine, Pico and Ezra secretly choreograph a "dance" to show the parents, and Martine and Pico bond over this. The dance goes well, but due to miscommunication Martine thinks her parents are disappointed she still doesn't want to ride him, and she takes Pico on a walk beside the road in the dark, still in her angel costume. During this walk, she decides that hey if Ezra is no longer scared maybe I will actually try riding. Before they can get back, though, Martine gets badly injured in a hit-and-run by a drunk driver who saw her costume and thought she was some sort of ghost. Martine ends up in a wheelchair for most of the rest of the book.

With no proof of what happened and Pico of course being unable to explain what happened, they assume Pico is somehow responsible, and (without telling Martine) sell him to someone who seems trustworthy but turns out to just be a horse seller. The sellers attempt to train him in English riding (Pico was trained in western by Ezra) and it's very unsettling how dark some of these books get in regards to animal abuse since these are like, 9+. So I won't go over that too much but you can imagine it I'm sure. Surprisingly, "Pico" is one of the least graphic in regards to this subject (though it is always handled very well).

Pico is eventually sold to another girl, who is lead to believe he's trained in English style by the sellers. They are badly matched because of this, and as a way of trying to find out how to communicate better, she tries to figure out where he came from by the make of his halter. The halter was part of the gift to Martine, was too nice for how scummy the sellers were so surely it had to be of his original owner, and it also later turns out to have actually been a custom.

I won't spoil any further, but Martine and Pico do eventually reunite (with the other girl ending up riding one of Pico's half-siblings from his dad's side). If you can read Dutch please pick up these books or any of Linneweever's horse books, they're all incredible. (sadly these books have never been translated to English)

i just need to walk through this step by step to see if I understand it better.

Jojo Siwa rebrands and someone at SSE thinks wow, we could make fun of this

Raptor is hyped as coming back for the equestrian festival with a whole new name, with his songs playing in the backgrounds of trailers.

Raptor appears and reveals that his new name is rizz razz the riff rapscalion or something to that effect

That's all. He doesn't say anything else. There is no quest. There is no music. He rhymes a little bit but then he just stands there.

Somehow we are meant to glean that this is a joke, the entire setup was a joke, the comeback is a joke, the idea of him playing songs was so far from SSE's minds that, when people in the comments said "was that all? i wanted him to put on a concert" the social media team responded with "great idea, we'll see if he's up for it in the future!"

They do not, and ladies and gentlepeople this is the important part, announce that it is a joke. They make two responses to instagram comments where they imply that they just wanted to be silly, but the idea of Raptor realizing the namechange is weird, wrong or not something to pursue is not brought up, so despite it being a joke, he is canonically Rizzy now

Raptor is still raptor(?) Raptor is not making music, he's not even performing music. ALL of this for SSE to go haha what if we changed his name.

Giving this a 2024 update! Keeping most of the scores intact but I’m raising book Lisa to a 9. She’s incredible she has such depths she is absolutely FULL of PTSD please read the books. Book!Lisa is so good!!!

Game Lisa 6,5/10

I don’t mind her but she’s not my favorite. She’s just kind of boring to me. Love her music tho (that earns her some points).

Book Lisa 7/10

Slightly more interesting than Game Lisa but it’s still hard to get through her POV at times (especially in the first book where it’s mostly centered around her).

Elizabeth:

Oh geez I barely remember her personality, it’s been a while. I do remember I like her, and what I’ll call “the incident” as to avoid spoilers hit me hard, she’s a great mentor figure, but I love book Elizabeth more than game Elizabeth.

I really had to rediscover my outfit style when the character update hit and I think one of my main surprises was how much I now like the sleeveless crop tops? Idk I used to prefer the tshirt croptops but I think the sleeveless ones flatter Corinne more now

why is no one mentioning that Shakira is like a brownish gray when she's with raptor and black when she's alone. what color-shifting abilities does this puppy have.

Make her curvy! Personally, seeing Corinne absolutely rock outfits while having a body type similar to mine has been a huge confidence boost! Of course, sometimes the uncertainty will still creep in (I still don’t have Corinne wear as much croptops as I did before the update, though I’m working on building up that confidence), but that can’t be avoided and I’m sure that happens to everybody. Honestly, seeing your character rocking outfits and being beautiful while having your bodytype is such a specific happy feeling. So yeah, definitely make her curvy! She will be very pretty either way!

I still can't believe, that I let my own internalised fatphobia change Ivanna back to thinner shortly after they updated the characters

She looks so flat, nothing against this body type, it's just in my mind Ivanna is a curvy queen But then I saw her big thighs and they reminded me too much of my own and I chickened out.

So now I'm back onto the dilemma, whether or not I should give her curves back.

Things I've learnt playing main story yesterday, in no particular order:

I was about 15 minutes of playtime away from freeing Linda these past six months

Even before freeing Linda I could've unlocked mistfall, the one area that I couldn't get into.

Dayblockers are 100% still a thing, and deeply annoying

When the dayblockers aren't there it's a different type of annoying, mostly in the shape of absolutely botched dialogue and also the fact the game is incapable of keeping track of where npcs are (Alex kept jumpscaring me by popping in and out of existence, notably being Right There as Linda talked abt waiting for Alex to get back)

Introduction quests to area's you can get to without doing the introduction quests are funny (Firgrove introduction). Introduction quests in the main storyline to area's that have their own standalone introduction quests are funnier (Ydris's circus)

The problem with morality in sso is that you have no option to be evil on purpose, and most evil characters are written badly enough that it's Really clear when MC is helping the bad guys by accident, making it just a Fascinatingly Dumb thing to happen (helping out Sabine kidnapping Justin, having Zero questions about giving magical five-leaf clovers (which. aren't that rare at all.) to a Literal Witch).

Mistfall is Very very pretty, I get why a lot of people put their home stable there.

Somehow the dialogue makes "experienced rider" sound like a slur to me. Maybe I am but how would you know, girl who's been locked up in a castle for six months

Ydris calling me horsewoman right before/after killing my internet connection and thus both my stream and my game, however, sounds like he knows I have a tumblr and had to get my url past the sso chat censor.
