You know what I don't get?

How does the economy of Velaris even work?

It's a hidden city.

How did they do trade?

How did ships reach a port that didn't exist to the rest of the world? How did the merchants even trade to a city they didn't know existed? How did they export goods then? Like the ppl in other parts of the world had goods imported from 'non-existent' land?? How did they transport goods when Velaris wasn't even on the map?

A city like Velaris...since it's so modern and flourishing can't exactly flourish if it's closed off from the world. A city is prosperous because of trade and international relations and it's reputation around the world and it's economy that is majorly constituted from trade!

City can't be modern and prosperous if there aren't enough ppl for employment?? I mean up until that attack and when they revealed Velaris you cud only be a citizen of Velaris if you were born there. So you're telling me that the population of one small city was enough to make Velaris a metropolitan with wealthy businesses? Unless everyone did atleast 4 different types of jobs, I'm pretty sure they'd be short of ppl to employ. No now that I think about it, it's still not possible. Also it's ridiculous I mean..if you're born there you gotta spend the rest of your immortal life in that city only? Even if they go outside wouldn't Rhysie make them forget everything about their home incase the spill? I think he said that too?

And Rhysie doesn't take taxes from his ppl...so how...was the rainbow and stuff made? How can the state still afford to run it? If the city did no trade for atleast 50 years cannonically? (I'm not sure if that's a word) a city made sensibly and not for the aesthetic alone would collapse if it was closed off from the world for even 2 years let alone literal centuries?

So how does Velaris'...the main setting of the seires... economy work? I'm genuinely confused?

Ok but what is the authors obsession with writing a romance between centuries old guy and a teen girl? If you are so obsessed with concept of immortality why not make the girl centuries old too and just as powerful? Why not have them both be immortal? I promise you people will find experienced powerful women just as if not more appealing than your typical sweet innocent girl who 'apparently' becomes powerful and unravels after meeting this so called guy.

This is true. I have nothing against Sarah as a person nor is she the only author whose work I dislike. Whatever I say about her works are based on my observations and I really don't care if you like her stuff. If you like her books I suggest you stay out of the anti tags and not harass people by sending anons. I don't like her work and my ability to write has nothing to do with it, people are allowed to have opinions regardless of skill.

sigh. okay. here we go. 

1) no it did not. not only have so many other books written friendships between women before, they did so infinitely better. and sure, you can claim that Danika helped Bruce make the climb after the Drop, but let’s be real, Danika convinced Bruce to do so bc of Hunt

2) sure it included her trauma, but not well, not realistically, not respectfully, and certainly not for the first time. sj///m never writes trauma well, and yet she continues to write it and piss on people who deal with actual trauma bc her stans coddle her and never challenge her to do better

3) Bruce is slut-shamed all. the. time. for having casual sex. there is no sex positivity to be found in this book

4) Bruce was never with Connor, if that’s who this stan is referring to, so like. idk what they’re trying to argue here. plus, the relationship bw Hunt and Shahar never felt balanced and equal to me, so i could never get behind it

5) why do stans continue to pretend that sj///m is the first author to ever write “badass female characters” bc she never does it well

6) look i remain pissed about how sj///m wrote about Bruce’s leg. she refused to get it treated bc she wanted to punish herself. plus, it was magically healed. as someone with chronic pain and a bad leg, this is bullshit

7) i remain angry that sj///m made Bruce such an asshole to Ruhn, clearly trying to make us take Bruce’s side here, only for it to be fixed in what felt like the last ten pages of the book

8) yes, i agree with the stan that Bruce’s mom and stepdad are probably the only good parents sj///m has ever written, but i still had some beef with Bruce’s mom due to how she spoke to Bruce

9) ah yes, bc we’ve never seen an author write about men feeling emotions before. also, the situation with Hunt hating the fact he kills for Micah always felt superficial bc we had so. many. instances of Hunt immediately wanting to bestow violence on people for Bruce, so like. no.

10) sorry i just laughed myself into another dimension at the fact that this stan actually thinks what Bruce did for Lehabah was at all compassionate or loving. Bruce bought Lehabah from Jesiba and then kept it from her for who knows how fucking long instead of telling Lehabah instantly bc Bruce wanted to throw a fucking party to ~celebrate Lehabah’s freedom~
