If your plot feels flat, STUDY it! Your story might be lacking...

Stakes - What would happen if the protagonist failed? Would it really be such a bad thing if it happened?

Thematic relevance - Do the events of the story speak to a greater emotional or moral message? Is the conflict resolved in a way that befits the theme?

Urgency - How much time does the protagonist have to complete their goal? Are there multiple factors complicating the situation?

Drive - What motivates the protagonist? Are they an active player in the story, or are they repeatedly getting pushed around by external forces? Could you swap them out for a different character with no impact on the plot? On the flip side, do the other characters have sensible motivations of their own?

Yield - Is there foreshadowing? Do the protagonist's choices have unforeseen consequences down the road? Do they use knowledge or clues from the beginning, to help them in the end? Do they learn things about the other characters that weren't immediately obvious?

make out sessions where it’s less making out and more giggling and bumping their noses accidentally while smiling ear to ear

A casually saying something absolutely scandalous while B is eating and B almost chokes on their food

dating their sibling’s best friend, and the sibling finding out and telling their friend “oh you’re so dead” and chasing their friend/sibling’s partner around the room, while the sibling is frantically trying to stop it and their other friends are just laughing hysterically

just both of them being in absolute awe of each other. how did i get so lucky

how arcane taught me to outline — on character

inspired by @/schnee1 on youtube ; i’ve learned a lot from what he talks about in his arcane analysis video series and took inspiration from him to outline my wip, here are some of my notes on them! i’m also a film student so it might lean not so writeblry!

psa: this is my interpretation of arcane and the many helpful resources i found along the way + the things i learned from the show but i hope you find this helpful xx

i’m sure many of you have seen the award-winning hit netflix series arcane, league of legends fan or not. if you have to seen it, spoilers ahead if you keep reading and GO WATCH IT! whether or not you liked it, surely you’ll agree that its plot, characters, worldbuilding, conflict, etc, are on the next level. to say the least, i’m obsessed. so here’s a small writing help series of the many things arcane has taught me (with the help of the internet + youtube). this series is all thanks to you guys who said “yes do it” to me <3

Queer Creator Showcase

Alright here we go! Queer Creator Showcase year 2!

For everyone who missed it last year, this a mini-pride month event open to all creators who identify as queer or part of the queer community. All kinds of creative works - drawings, crochet, music, writing, etc - are welcome. It’s also open to all skill levels, whether you started on your medium last week or last decade.

Some quick rules/guidelines:

You may include a maximum of 5 pieces, across all medium. Ex: 5 poems, 2 drawings and 3 plush toys, etc.

Please submit all pieces in a single post. 

Ideally, post it on your own blog and tag me (@queercutlureis) in it. If you can’t, for whatever reason, please shoot me a DM and we’ll figure something out.

Please feel free to introduce yourself and your work! A few lines about who you are, what themes you’re interested in, what draws you to your medium(s) would be lovely! But of course, no pressure if you’re not comfortable with this.

I’ll be accepting submissions from now (17th of May) until the 20th of June, to give everyone plenty of time to get things together. The showcase will begin on the 1st of June and end on the 30th of June.
