Guelph-Wellington-Dufferin has moved to stage 3!
This means we are allowed to have up to 48 people in our venue.
Kicking off the summer with mystery, romance and film Noir classics. Our Movies for Saturday August 7 are "Detour" and "The Strange Love of Martha Ivers", guaranteed to keep you glued to the edge of your seat with suspense.
Detour is said to be the Perfect metaphor for Global Pandemic year 2020. Where hitchhiker Al Roberts is trapped in an ever-tightening net of his own making when the driver who stops to pick him up dies. Fearring he would be accused of murder, he chooses to get rid of the body and to take on the man's identity. He picks up a ride named Vera who sees through his charade and blackmails him into participating in her increasingly criminal schemes. As Roberst Spirals downwards into trouble, the viewer is taken along for the incredible ride. Shadowy black and white cinematography, a femme fatale, a hard-bitten narrator and questionable morality are just a few of the stunning film noir elements that render this a cinematic treasure.
"The Strange Love of Martha Ivers" is a film with a very clever twist towards the end. Eighteen years ago, Martha Ivers killed her aunt and covered it up with the help of others. Now, someone from her past who may know the truth about the murder has returned to Iverstown finding Martha in a loveless marriage. Passion and tension then ignite in this Film Noir tale about disillusionment and blackmail. With a very young Kirk Douglas!

Ella Fitzgerald -- ‘I owe Marilyn Monroe a real debt … she personally called the owner of the Mocambo, and told him she wanted me booked immediately, and if he would do it, she would take a front table every night. ‘She told him – and it was true, due to Marilyn’s superstar status – that the press would go wild. ‘The owner said yes, and Marilyn was there, front table, every night. The press went overboard. ‘After that, I never had to play a small jazz club again. She (Marilyn) was an unusual woman – a little ahead of her times. And she didn’t know it.’

It's a Wonderful Life is considered a mature film. It's one that teaches the foundations of an honest living. A story that resonates with both young and old. And yet, when the script came to pass back in the mid-1940s, it was considered a bit controversial. As it was deemed too "racy". See for yourself this Saturday, at The Crown Harriston.

Even though I was only a youngster, I remember this quite well. Your make-up flaked, your smile stopped aching, but the Show... still goes on.

Who's got a nose for Christmas? Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer!
To get us in the mood of Christmas we're doing our annual movie showing! On many request here comes Rudolph in the most beloved movie-special of all time! Because seating is limited we've decided to do two showings. One at 3 pm and one at 5 pm.
Sam the snowman tells us the story of a young red-nosed reindeer who, after being ousted from the reindeer games because of his beaming honker, teams up with Hermey, an elf who wants to be a dentist, and Yukon Cornelius, the prospector. They run into the Abominable Snowman and find a whole island of misfit toys. Rudolph vows to see if he can get Santa to help the toys, and he goes back to the North Pole on Christmas Eve. But Santa's sleigh is fogged in. But when Santa looks over Rudolph, he gets a very bright idea...
