Ooookay so I am noticing a concerning trend on here as of late and I want to talk about it
I have had more than one scam blog follow me that are religion based. The first time I made a funny little "you're on thin ice" post because I thought it was a one off thing. However, I just had another one follow me.
First, let's look at the blogs:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now the name on the first one is much more obvious, with Yeshua being the original Hebrew pronunciation of Jesus. But let's look at the actual blog descriptions, because that's where I started to get concerned
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So first thing that hit me is that these blogs are proselytizing. They are actively seeking out people that they think they can get to listen to them talk about their religion.
Before I get into more about this though (because there is a lot that does not make sense here), I want to point out the contents of the blogs:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They both only have one post directing people off the platform. This is a scam.
Anyways, back to the content that concerns me. Now, I do not know that many Jewish folk. I know enough, however, to know that this is not right. I follow puckgoodfaggot (i don't want to tag because this is genuinely upsetting and he doesn't deserve that) and have been following his conversion to Judaism as well as ArtByEloquent (who is an amazing friend btw, check out their art). I also know a handful of Jewish folk irl and have had the pleasure of learning from them and KSU's Hillel center. I have also extensively studied Christianity, specifically the start of Christianity and the many sects that formed during the time of proto-orthodox christianity.
So what I do know: Judaism does not revere Jesus (Yeshua) as the messiah. He is Just Some Guy:tm: to them. Maybe he was a prophet, but he was not The Prophet.
Another thing I know: Jewish folk do not proselytize. Judaism will not turn their backs on a convert, but in order to convert you must seek it out and study extensively under a willing Rabbi for a period of time. The Rabbi also has the authority to reject anyone seeking conversion, they do not have to accept you as a student. I don't know too much other than what some people I follow have shared, but that's because I am not a convert and it does not pertain to my area of study.
Also: This is a christian style of scam. 'Campfire-style' specifically, that is phrasing that is heavily used in christian youth groups. It's where you sit in a circle and tell scary stories but the scary stories are recitations of scripture. As far as I know, and again that is not a lot, scripture is not spoken like this in Synagogues. From everything I have been a part of with Hillel, scripture is not really recited outside of worship, but rather is discussed. So, 'campfire-style' recitation would not be a thing in Judaism
So, why are these blogs posturing about 'knowing Yeshua' and learning Hebrew and reading Scriptures 'campfire style'? Honestly, both of these blogs read to me as a Christian trying to pretend they are Jewish and give Jews a bad name.
I just.. in today's climate this feels really icky. I can't even put a name on what's going on other than it seems like it could be a very anti-Semitic move, a way to blame innocent Jews for data mining and shit. It could also be that I put a rather large beacon on my blog with how I talk about ancient christianities and the fact that I'm reading sections of the Tanakh (specifically Ezekiel right now)
I don't know what I'm trying to say other than watch out, I guess. I have reported and blocked both accounts, but I want everyone to keep an eye out for stuff like this and understand that this is not normal and not something you should click on.
Anyways, if you want to follow some awesome Jewish creators instead, here are some of my recommendations:
@/puckgoodfaggot (again, i cannot reach out to him to ask for permission and i don't wanna dump this on him so i can't fully tag him but follow him he's great) @artbyeloquent (seriously, check out their art and commission them) @/istodayajewishholiday (the most helpful blog for helping me be more mindful of jewish holidays) and this one's on twitter, but @/shtetlslut (my good friend Claude, the author of In The Hands Of An Angry G-D)

Best type of Christian theology is that modernized liberal Protestant thing where they’re like “in this verse, what God is really trying to say is that it’s important you treat yourself with respect and obey the laws of the land” and then you look at the passage in question and it reads “gays should be killed in public”

Philippians 3:8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ.
I grieve the things I lost by knowing Christ Jesus.
I threw away so much in my Christian life. I devalued things that could have been precious to me. I distanced myself from potential friends. I isolated myself in harmful ideology that told me that my life was rubbish to be thrown away. I have gained so much by leaving the faith: new friends, hopeful future, better life. But along the way I had to accept that nothing can replace the years that I lost to Christianity.

Here’s a reminder for anyone who thinks that conservatives accept aces: they think we need to be fixed. They think women and feminine people are inherently asexual but they mean it in a way that agency is removed, not as an orientation.
It’s also not a sudden switch. The churches I grew up in preached that sexuality was reserved for your husband, and that if you had boobs (they didn’t recognize anything but cis existed) that your body was inherently tempting, and men’s attraction to you was your responsibility.
Also — while I went to church camp every summer and did Bible Quizzing (I was really good at that actually) and was in the church pageant and youth groups and all of that — I know many people raised in much stricter churches, and that includes stricter purity culture beliefs.
The idea that men and masculine people wouldn’t want sex? Utterly unthinkable. I even remember having conversations in my Christian college with women who wanted to get married who said that part of their marriage was the duty to be sexually available to their husbands.
The body I was raised with was meant for the service of a future husband, not me. And that bled into secular culture (still does). Claiming my aceness was a huge part of claiming agency over my body and healing from the idea that it could only exist for others.
Here’s the thing: in a nutshell, women and feminine people are seen as not wanting sex, but having bodies inherently sexually tempting to men and masculine people. When the two marry, she must give her body to her husband in every way. And yeah, it’s as gross as it sounds.
Just because conservatives didn’t say “asexual” before doesn’t make this rhetoric new. Purity culture has been against anything not based in some 1950s idealized sexuality in marriage for a very long time. Very cis heteronormative— two things aces are not. The only difference is that conservatives are including the word “asexual” in their sexual ethics now.
Wrote an essay about it here.
But yeah it’s not new. They’re just learning how to use more vocabulary to say what they were already saying.

To my international friends: If you ever wonder why Americans are the way they are, just remember that 1/3rd of all US citizens are in a cult that teaches them to suppress the activity of their prefrontal cortex, particularly when it comes to doubt, critical thinking, and differentiating emotional responses from personal values.

Today, I met someone who believed that people who left their religion deserve to die, even more so if they dare talk about it or make art out of it.
He told me that not all ideas should be scrutinized. He told me that religion, especially Islam, gets a pass because "it's true.". The part that baffled me the most is the following : "You don't criticize religion like that. The murder of these people is okay, it's halal.".
In his essence, I and many of my loved ones, deserve to die.
This shit is what we apostates have to go through on a daily basis. TBH, I'm so sick of being here. I'm so sick of having to explain time and time again that I, a queer agnostic female artist, doesn't deserve to die. But this place is too far gone in its own delusion and people like me pay the price. I don't agree or even like religious people, but I'm never going to wish death or injury on them because they're human beings. Why can't that same favor be accorded to me? I am human, too. I'm sick of it all.
I deserve to live even if I stand in opposition to you. Ex-muslim writers, artists, critics, singers, bakers, office workers, carpenters, men, women, straights, trans people, gays, asexuals... Deserve to live.
I deserve to live.

Y’all know that one Bible story where Jacob wrestles that Angel for three nights or something?
Every time I see a painting of the scene it always looks like the gayest thing imaginable and they always make the Angel a twunk and they’re like holding hands or gripping each other by the waist

Christians hate when a gay man goes “fuck it, I’ll gladly go to Hell if you want me to so bad” because it takes the edge away from their tools of fear. If they can’t scare you with threats of eternal damnation then one of their main weapons is taken away.
